Fenty Beauty Girl Next Door/Chic Freak Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Girl Next Door/Chic Freak
Fenty Beauty Girl Next Door/Chic Freak Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo ($34.00 for 0.24 oz.) contains a light, pinky-peach with a frosted finish and a deeper, more metallic peachy coral. The left side wasn’t as reflective as the right side, which had more visible sparkle and did emphasize my skin’s natural texture. Some might enjoy the intensity and shine of the right side even if it doesn’t have a smoothing finish, while others are loathe to draw attention to their skin’s natural texture. If you’re part of the latter, I don’t think that this formula (generally) will be the best fit.

Girl Next Door
Girl Next Door is a soft, peachy pink with strong, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The left side of the duo was more reflective than some of the lighter duos in the range, but it seemed just shy of pore-emphasizing territory (at least, for me). The consistency was smooth to the touch but still a bit thinner and seemed to get slightly stiffer with use, but again, not quite as bad as two of the lighter duos. On the skin, the powder had medium, buildable coverage and was easily blended along the edges. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.28 oz. - $128.57 Per Ounce
The formula is described ranging from “subtle dayglow to insanely supercharged” with a “cream-powder hybrid” formula that feels “weightless” and is long-wearing. They can also be used on the eyes, body, lips, and so forth, per the brand. They feel like a traditional powder, but they have a smooth, moderately dense texture that doesn’t kick up a lot of excess product in the pan but also does not feel stiff or difficult to pickup with the brush. The finishes varied from shade to shade; where Metal Moon was the most subtle and had a satin-to-pearl finish, Trophy Wife was the most over-the-top with chunky, obvious glitter and less base color compared to the other shades.
The duos featured a light-to-moderate highlighter on the left and then a more sparkly, metallic highlighter on the right with the exception of Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule, where the left shade (Ginger Binge) was more intense (possibly owing to the richer color and payoff). In general, I found the left, more subtle side of each duo to be sheer to semi-sheer, somewhat buildable, whereas the right, more metallic side was substantially more pigmented. All of the more intense highlighters (Trophy Wife and the right side of the duos) did accentuate the look of my skin’s natural texture to some degree.
For use on the eye, they worked better with a slightly dampened brush, as it gave the powder a bit more binding powder for better adherence to the lid, but the ones I tried on the lid were blendable and easy to apply with no real concerns from the application itself other than the potential for fallout over time.

Chic Freak
Chic Freak is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a sparkling, golden sheen. There were visible micro-sparkles on the skin along with an intense, metallic sheen that did have a tendency to accentuate my skin’s natural texture a bit (not quite as much as some of the other shades in the range). I noticed that in action/as applied, it ended up being so reflective that the base color wasn’t as prominent on my skin tone (less peach-pink more golden sheen) but at certain angles, the base color was a bit more noticeable. The texture was smooth, soft, and easy to work with as it was blendable and almost cream-like. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

I like this one!!!! Might be the one I get since it is sorta blush, sorta highlight. Or Might get trophy wife because it’s a bit different. I want some things from fenty beauty just don’t know what yet
Trophy Wife is one of the more unique shades in the Killawatt range for sure!
Hmmm, a little tempted by this duo:)
I’m not surprised 🙂
I’m not seeing the draw of Fenty. If there’s a new cosmetics company then I think (for me) it needs to do something new and/or better. New colors or better quality or better prices. But if you like it, great.
They came out with 40 shades of foundation (and 20 shades of concealer) and acknowledged extremes in both light/dark and undertone variation better than a lot of long-time, existing brands. It’s a brand created by a prominent woman of color who was involved throughout the creation of the line specifically with being inclusive in mind – that is new and different and absolutely worth celebrating – that is why many are excited because they finally feel like they’re being acknowledged. Hope that helps! 🙂
It does, thanks! Twenty shades of concealer, that’s a definite plus. 😀
Oh these are definitely blush territory for me. Since they brand is supposed to be in all stores I need to drop by one later. *_*
Yup ditto.. tempted by this one too… h/l hybrid blush or as eyeshadow.
I actually quite like this duo! However, I have ABH Kitty Kat and Nyx Narcissistic, so I suppose I don’t need this one. Peachy shades are my friend when it comes to color correcting/ bringing down my olive tones, though!
Kitty Kat definitely gets you close!
Why are all these new highlighters so glittery!! I am here ready to spend money but all I see are glittery highlighters so frustrating! I love a very wet glossy look but hate using cream products for it as I have to use my fingers to blend them out (then have to wash hands ugh I just want to rush out the door!) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I hate to be the one doing this today, I am so sorry Christine but another small typo in the first part with “it doesn’t having a smoothing”
Sorry again for making you proofread my terrible writing, Sue!
Sue, it’s a little pricey but check out the new Hourglass Metallic Strobe palette. I just got mine today and it’s soooo finely milled, no glitter whatsoever. It really does have an almost glossy look! The colors are on the subtle side but the formula is perfection.
I think this one is really pretty. I know not all of these duos are rating well, but I really like that they put in a more demure shade and a brighter sparkly shade in them. I’m usually not demure, but sometimes even I don’t want my HL to detract from my other strong makeup.
I wish the texture of the more subtle side was better (overall).
