Featured Beauty Sales + Discount Codes (October 2020)
There’s a sale here! There’s a sale there! How many sales can one person deliberate over?! Between around the corner and retailers, in general, anticipating shipping delays as we get deeper into the holiday shipping season… it is sale-a-palooza! A lot of brands/retailers started their sales this week, so here is some advice on figuring out where and when to shop at the moment…
Right now, Beautylish, Bloomingdale’s, Credo Beauty, Neiman Marcus, and Saks all have sitewide promotions going on, and they’re multi-brand retailers. There are also a few brands running their friends & family/sitewide sales, too. I would expect to see many of your favorite brands to participate in some sale event in the next few weeks, too.
Here’s last year’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday roundup of beauty sales and deals, which is a good reference for what might be coming down the pipeline if you haven’t seen your favorite brand run an event yet. We also have an automatically updated Makeup Deals & Sale post that features any and all offers from brands that we’re aware.

% Off Sales
These are often the better promotions because you don’t have to worry about the right number of products to qualify for the discount. Some places will increase the discount depending on the spend–like 15% for any purchase but 20% off for purchases over $50+.
I highly recommend shopping a brand’s website if you place orders under $200 and/or do not qualify for upper-end tiers (like you’re a Sephora Insider). Most brands offer 20% off at least once a year, and there are some that push to 25% to 30% off, too. Their thresholds are often a lot lower (particularly for more mid-end and high-end brands).
Secondly, a lot of brands (and a few retailers) offer a one-time discount for new customers who sign up for their newsletter; this is often 10% to 20%.
Retailers
- Macy’s — 30% off non-beauty/ 15% off beauty w/code FRIEND, ends 11/09
- Nordstrom: 15% off most beauty/fragrance; they’re price-matching Neiman Marcus + Macy’s 15% off offers), ends 11/9.
- : 20% off for Rouges (10/30-11/9), 15% off for VIBs (11/3-11/9), and 10% off for Insiders (11/5-11/9); discount is limited by Insider tier status, so VIBs and Insider discounts are often lower than most brands offer direct
Brands
- Kosas: 20% off sitewide, ends 10/29.
Spend $X, Get Gift Card of $Y Events
These promotions require you to purchase a minimum amount in order to qualify for a gift card back. It usually ranges from an equivalent of 15 to 25% cash back in the form of a gift card. This is good if your purchase will be close to minimum thresholds to qualify for a gift card, e.g. spend $100 and your total is $105 (but spending $155 doesn’t get you anything additional). It is also imperative that you’re someone makes regular beauty purchases; you’ll want to pay attention to expiration dates (sometimes it can range from a few months to a year) on the gift card.
- No current deals.
Retailers like Neiman Marcus and Saks regularly run gift card events–almost once a month!–so if you tend to shop higher-end and luxury brands, you may find it more lucrative to shop at both regularly. Beauty/fragrance is occasionally excluded from events, so check the fine print.
I’m going to be good and just wait on Sephora’s Rouge sale. This is probably my last year as a Rouge after 5 or 6 years in a row. But that’s okay because I know I had a fantastic run! I am going to use up my entire “cushion” on it, though. No clothing or shoes, just Sephora. Will be getting DE Protini Peptide and PML Interstellar Icon, plus something else…still deciding which one.
I have had a basket going at Sephora in anticipation of the upcoming sale and like many, this is likely to be my last year as a Rouge. I have had that as a goal for a number of years but could never quite reach it. The pandemic really helped me in that way. I found when I went to Sephora in Spokane, in August, that not being able to swatch products really put a damper on my experience. Who would have thought that would be the case. I mean, I could still see the and the associates could swatch them but I love walking around the store with an arm full of swatches. Anyway, my cart is full but I need to pare it down so that will be my job over the next couple of days. It gives me something to do as I watch it snow buckets up here!
Well, i finally did it. Rouge since its inception, and i have $650 left to go in late Oct. Not getting birthday gift. Fall sale and zero in cart. Haven’t even been in since pandemic, though i admit to curiosity. Maybe not VIB. As BB King sang, ‘The thrill is gone🎶🎶🎶’
I noticed the PMG has their Fetish Eyes mascara on sale for $22. Does that mean they’re going to discontinue it? Or just trying to clear old stock?
Any ideas?
I wouldn’t say it’s a good sign, but it’s not 50% off, so possibly just to clear out older stock? maybe?
I hope so. I really like that mascara!
I have the *smallest*Rouge*cart*ever* since I discovered Sephora…..a cologne for dear hubby and the Viseart Paris Nudes (has been on my wishlist the longest) for me. The end.
I also took advantage of the Nordstrom mascara event (saved 33%!) and Native had a sale on deodorant (also saved 30%).
So, that’s the end of it, folks. I managed to close my eyes and ignore the Ulta extra-points-on pallets-bonus today. Now we are buying grain for the girls (horses) for winter. 🐴
Nicely done, Arena!
Thank you 🥰
Also thank you for this heroic Encyclopedia- blog…..thank you so much!!!
My pleasure!! <3
You’ll love Paris Nudes. It’s not OTT and not filled with lots of creams and browns. It’s one of Christine’s all time favorites. No palettes @Ulta for me, either. I did a minor Beautylish, but forewent the mascara, unless I can reconsider today. Saw the BEST license plate ever this AM. Discover Florida’s Horses. I think FL has replaced KY as the capital of horse breeding/racing stables.
I am so excited for the Paris Nudes….so glad you and Christine enjoy it!!
I have heard that Florida has some amazing horses…..and it’s so nice because you can ride all year. In WA state….its a bit chilly in winter. But we are saving up for an indoor riding arena (cue the year 3024 LOL)!
I will be saying goodbye to my Rouge status this year as well, it’s been a long run. I don’t think I’ll miss it, besides the 20% discount and free shipping, I can’t think of anything else that was rewarding from them this year and that’s pretty sad. I have my cart waiting and will look through my stock to see what needs refilling and that will be that. Kind of sad but I’m not going to buy just to buy, it needs to be something that is needed or must be something that I know I’m just going to love!
I’m not even excited about Big S holiday sale. Like others here, I have a small handful of items in my basket which are routine products I have been holding off purchasing.
I’m buying all my skincare off Amazon, Shoppers Drug Mart, or YesStyle. Shoppers Drug Mart gives me point which I can use on full-sized products or even groceries. I have a chunk of big S points and I don’t even know what to do with them because there is absolutely nothing to do with them. If I want premium testers, I use promo codes. No, I don’t need Sephora to make a charitable donation on my behalf. That is so upside down. I’ll make my own donations and, yeah, I get a tax receipt too. Sigh.
I’m trying to be the last one standing with 2389472304798 points at Sephora. Once upon a time–probably a decade ago–they had some big point redemptions for things like a designer bag… waiting for that.
Lol!
