Estee Lauder Rebel Pure Color Sheer Matte Lipstick
Estee Lauder Rebel Pure Color Sheer Matte Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a cool-toned, rosy medium-dark pink with a frosted sheen. MAC Pink Pearl is more muted, glossier. NARS Never Say Never is purpler. NYX Rose is lighter. Chanel Belgravia is very close in color but less frosted.
Estee Lauder described the color as “rich, satiny color” with an emphasis on how lightweight and lustrous the finish and feel are. The press release actually states “highly pigmented shades” with a “creamy, lightweight matte formula [that] exudes a sheer and satin finish.” So, “sheer” in the product name is not in relation to the color payoff–just so we’re clear! The formula is also supposed to “add moisture and hydrate.”
Rebel provided mostly opaque color coverage, but it clung and felt like it was sucking all the moisture out of my lips only moments after applying. I wore this, and it wasn’t pleasant; it lasted for five and a half hours (yay!) but was terribly drying. It was a stiffer consistency, not really the creamy texture they seemed to be going after, and as I applied it, the lipstick tugged and dragged on my lips. The lipstick comes in a slim twist-up container in the color of the lipstick inside.

This looks a bit too frosty, and I can’t handle a dry formula either.
Why would a matte lipstick have a frosted finish? Can’t frost be achieved on any formula? I thought the point of matte was it was the only way to not shine. This confuses me.
These feel so horribly drying on my lips. I saw them Monday at my local Estée Lauder counter and on my hand they felt great and the colours are so pretty but on the lips they feel like your worst nightmare.
that’s matte to them?!? That looks frost to me and I’m no expert
This formula even makes them look painfully dry… wow…
The product already looks ugly and sloppy on the tube. This looks like a drugstore product for an high end name. It would never have caught my eye. The only two things I own by EL now is the lucidity foundation and the makeup remover. The lipsticks smell and taste bad….not appealing.
I actually really like the color, so what a shame about it being so drying 🙁
I actually like the way this finish looks. If only they’d added a slightly moisturizing ingredient to at least make it moisture neutral. I won’t buy it anyways b/c of their animal testing policy.
wow! a shame the formula isn’t good. The color is cute/sexy/pretty everything on you!
As much as I love Estee Lauder’s skincare products (HG status, seriously), their make-up line just doesn’t work for me… Their “normal” lipstick formula hurts my lips (literally), so I dread what this matte lipstick would do! Not that I’m gonna find out though 😛
This product doesn’t look matte at all.
It’s just a sloppy looking product all around, from design to formula. Considering their regular lipstick line is quite nice, this is just unacceptable.
It looks cheap. In fact, there are a lot better looking drugstore products for a fraction of the cost!
Well the color looks pretty on you…but I can definitely see the drier texture :/ This would never work on me (I have perma-dry lips!)
The bullet itself looks cheap, somehow, and I’m not a fan of the packaging. I do like the color, but not the finish–maybe it’s matte, I see it as more frosted–and as someone with princess lips, no way could I handle the formula. All around miss on EL’s part.
I hate the packaging too! It looks so Drugstore. I feel like if you pay a lot for something, it better look pretty in the tube!
Eww that looks gross…
Aww… Too bad. The color is gorgeous
My lips are naturally so dry so this would be a disaster on me. I do like the color, but not with this finish… it reminds me of Barbie and the little makeup kits from Limited Too and Claire’s I used to have when I was little. The packaging reminds me of elf packaging… which I wouldn’t mind at all if it weren’t $25… I personally don’t care much about packaging but with brands like this, you know a good amount of your money is going to packaging, so this just makes me think of what a huge profit they’re making off this, as it’d probably so cheap to manufacture
So glad it didn’t wear longer than 5.5 hrs and you were released from its evil clutches. Omph! You don’t look happy in the full face photo. The things you do for us readers. Thanks, Christine!
I bought this online in three colors…had the exact experience you did, and shipped them all back. It’s hard to believe that this lipstick even made it out of testing!!! Also, the quantity in each tube is tiny…v dissapointing.
I’m glad you returned them! They were really disappointing!
Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick #16 Candy is very very similar to your swatches, the lipstick is creamy and gorgeous, would make the perfect dupe.
Weird. They call it matte but its completely full of glitter/frost.
That is a gorgeous shade, too bad it was so drying!
It even looks drying on your photographs. Beautiful color though, such a shame.
