A New Long-Wearing Eyeshadow from Estee Lauder

Estee Lauder Halo Shadow Paint ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a warm champagne beige with a shimmered, frost finish. Tarina Tarantino Elektron is lighter and a powder product. Urban Decay Booty Call is more peach-colored and a powder product. Benefit Tattle Tale is less beige, more golden. Maybelline Barely Branded is lighter, more white-based, less yellow.  This color would work well as an all-over shade, wash of color, or as an eyeshadow base.

The new Pure Color Stay-on Shadow Paint formula is supposed to wear for 12-hours crease-free, fade-proof, and have “maximized color impact … magnified vibrancy.” Halo applied smoothly, evenly, and opaquely without having to load the brush with product or layer a ton of product on. The dry down time seemed about average; not so quick that you have no time to work with the product, but not so slow that it gathers in the crease if you don’t give it enough time to set. Once it dries down, it’s set for the whole day. It didn’t crease or fade over a 12-hour period.  The texture was really nice, too, because it has a thin but very creamy feel.

P.S. — I have a few more shades to review, and I haven’t tested all of them yet, and while Halo is one of the best of the bunch, some of the others I did have some issues with. The line has seemed inconsistent to me so far, so I wanted to give readers a heads up that if you’re waffling over other shades, I have more reviews to come!

What sort of a brush do you use for applying cream shadows? I try to use my finger but it seems to be somewhat clumsy. I have the now discontinued Urban Decay cream shadows that come with a doefoot applicator but that gets too much product on my eyelids. Plus I just ordered the Strike it Rich primer set from Bare Minerals during their 12 hour online sale.

Is the Maybelline bare beige similar? I have been trying to find a matte cream eyeshadow and was hoping this would fill that need. Seems like noone has a matte light shade – I use shore from bobbi brown but it’s a touch too dark for total eye. Haven’t heard great things about bobbi’s new shadow sticks.

I have a soft spot for shadows(whether they be powder or cream) that are this color. Especially on the days when I don’t feel like wearing eye shadow, but still want a little something.

This is quite nice! I wish cream shadows wore better on me, else I’d be all over this.

As for the other shades…if your test results were anything like the swatches I did of these at the counter last week, I suspect the ones you probably had trouble with were the colorful ones. They seemed a bit patchier than the neutral shades. I’ll be interested to see your reviews!

I picked up Sinister a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it. One of the few cream shadows that doesn’t irritate my eyes.

It seriously doesn’t budge until I wash off my makeup either. Curious to see which shades gave you problems, as I was thinking about going back for a couple of the more vibrant options.

I bought this in the color Steel and had to return it. Texture was great but it had a lot of tiny glitter fallout in a matter of minutes! Not what you expect from a cream shadow. Also not very pigmented

Comparing this and the Mac paint pots, which do you prefer?? Seeing Mac is bringing out new paint pots to go into the line, I’m unsure which one to buy!! Thanks 🙂

I was so disappointed in this. It applied patchily and I could see the texture of the product on my lid. It was really sheer and he more I tried to build on it the worse it looked. The By Terry Ombre Blackstar line of cream shadows are by far the best I’ve ever used.

I was super disappointed in this. I though it applied a little patchy and emphasized the texture of my eyelid. I think the best version (not completely identical in color) of both this and Maybelline’s “Barely Branded” is the By Terry Ombre Blackstar cream shadow in “Blond Opal”.
