Estee Lauder Demure Pure Color Sheer Matte Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Estee Lauder Demure Pure Color Sheer Matte Lipstick
Estee Lauder Demure Pure Color Sheer Matte Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a cool-toned, medium-dark fuchsia pink with a soft iridescent frost sheen. It has a frosted matte finish. NARS 413 BLKR is actually very similar–a smidgen darker but otherwise close both in color and finish. Illamasqua Atomic is also close in color and finish, as it has that frosted matte look and fuchsia hue.
Estee Lauder’s most recent lipstick formula is a far cry from where mattes have come; this feels like an old school matte: the kind that’s clingy, drying, and so hard to endure wearing. The color just gets sucked onto the lips leaving them looking dry and chapped, rather than healthy, and it really does feel like it’s sucking all of the moisture of your lips while it wears. Demure wears for six hours, though, and leaves behind a noticeable stain, too. The consistency is stiff, so it pulls and tugs at the lips when you apply the color.

The color itself is beautiful!
You can tell how dry it is just from looking at the product in the tube! Ouch.
See,s like a flashback from the 80s.
It does look 80’s but it seems that all of the hot neon colors are back. I just saw the Maybelline intense (red, orange, fuschia) and was like “OMG its jr high bathroom all over again” I think maybe with a really neutral eye (maybe like just a shimmer or just liner and mascara like Christine did) this could be a fun color for summer
This looks weird.
What a shame that it’s so drying! The color itself is really pretty 🙁
Ewww, it looks like the costume makeup I used to wear as a little girl when I played dress up.
Doesn’t look all that demure to me 🙂 Too bad it feels so drying, because it’s a great shade. Maybe you could combine it with lip balm?
I feel sorry for your lips having to endure that, it looks so drying!
It really does look drying just by looking at it in the tube. However, I still wanna try it on just to see the color heehee
The name of the color is totally unfitting. I’d imagine “demure” to be a soft nude pink.
Still a pretty color though, too bad it’s drying. 🙁
What a shame this line doesn’t perform well, it looks so wonderful on you! I have see this shade many times from Estée Lauder, though. It would look great with some glosses of theirs that I’m thinking of. Oh well, another product, another day…
How does that colour go with the name ‘Demure?’
If any company should know how to make a decent matte formula, it should be Estee Lauder. MAC ,Bobbi Brown, Clinique, and Smashbox all have really good lipstick formulas and they are all under the parent company of Estee Lauder-shame!! The color is pretty though
I thought the first one you reviewed may have just been an outlier non-matte matte shade, but it looks like this whole line isn’t matte at all. For that price, I’ll stick to other brands I know are good. Thanks for the review, as always.
Pure color+ sheer + matte= Huh?
How disappointing but the color looks really nice on you!
that’s really too bad because I was really excited about these 🙁
Eek…that’s too bad about the old-school formula :/ Weird since EL has been really upping their game with so many of their other products. Didn’t ANYONE test these?! 😛
Nice pop of color for the lips….
Aw, this makes me sad. I have a few products from EL that I have been loving lately and I really thought they were upping their game. It’s too bad because I LOVE the color. I remember the old mattes and they WERE painful to wear. Who want to do that again?
Yep, the old Estee Lauder mattes are awful! Most drying lipsticks I’ve ever tried.
Great colour, too bad the formula is a nightmare.
Such a pretty color on you, though!
don’t like the frosty-sheen! there are sooo much better mattes out there.
very dry indeed and not really a perfect shade(it could be w/o all that glitter)
