Essie Naughty Nautical & More the Merrier Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Essie Naughty Nautical Nail Lacquer
Essie Naughty Nautical Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark green-teal with soft, white sparkle. MAC Ocean Dip is darker, no shimmer. Illamaqua Venous is more muted, no shimmer. Zoya Zuza is more shimmery. See comparison swatches. The formula was good; the color was mostly opaque after two coats with the barest bit of the nail line coming through when there was a lot of light in the room. It dried down to a glossy shine, and the sparkles are still somewhat visible even at a distance. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so I didn’t have any trouble applying even layers of the polish. I normally get seven days of wear with minor tip wear with Essie’s formula.
More the Merrier Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, yellow-leaning chartreuse with a cream finish. L’Oreal New Money is more muted. Illamasqua Radium is greener. China Glaze Electric Pineapple is similar but sheerer. China Glaze Def Defying is darker, greener. See comparison swatches. Though there seemed to be good pigmentation, the formula was off, which resulted in a streaky, uneven application. Even the consistency was a little thick, so the polish pooled towards the edges of the nail.

They both look great, but Naughty Nautical – I’m amazed! Such a wonderful summer color!
Essie’s summer collection is right on the money with shades that are very fitting for the season!
Will you be reviewing the other polishes in the Essie summer collection?
I have a couple more, I think! I usually swatch 2-3 shades from a brand so I can have more variety, so I’m not sure.
I have a slight preference for The More The Merrier, but both look super pretty!
I love Naughty Nautical. I’m a sucker for teal/turquoise shades and I love the subtle shimmer in it. Great name, too. I got the mini summer collection set.
I love Naughty Nautical! Looks great for summer.
aww, your Naughty Nautical looks SO different from mine. 🙁 mine is much darker, and the sparkle isn’t suspended very well. it looks almost textured, and it took me a few days to realize it’s actually glitter. my area in GA must’ve gotten a bad batch, because every single one was like this. Lol I thought it was supposed to be like this, but now I see not. BOO!
That is so sad, Sam! What a bummer. It definitely seemed suspended in the bottle I have – no texture like you’re describing. I hope you returned yours!
I LOVE Naughty Naughtical but it stained my nails like no other!
Ooh, that sucks! I only wore it for as long as it took to take photos, so not a full week or anything, but it didn’t seem to stain at the time (some polishes stain THAT quickly). Thanks for the heads up!
I find that green one really horrible..
Wow! Those colors are really pretty!
The shimmer makes Naughty Nautical worth it, but I don’t think the other one is all that special. I usually only splurge on really unique Essies. Teal is my favorite color though, so I could be swayed.
I’m a sucker for teal, too 😀
I have both of these and just took of More the Merrier… both wore great on me and I didn’t have any trouble applying them. Both great summer colors.
That’s so lovely to hear, Megan! 🙂
I really like naughty nautical even though I may even like the Zoya dupe even more! Particularly this shades are very summery and so bright and cheerful.
The Zoya one has a very fun finish, but it’s hard to pick between the two!
Oy Naughty Nautical is stunning!
Oh I really want Naughty Nautical, your photos are so pretty!
I absolutely love the naughty nautical! But, more the merrier doesn’t seem too appealing.
In terms of thick, hard-to-work-with texture, I had the same problem with Essie’s First Timer. I love the color, but it was so difficult to get it to distribute evenly on my nails. I don’t think I usually have problems with Essie polishes.
Me neither – usually Essie is solid, especially for creams!
Love the subtle shimmer in Naughty Nautical.
Naughty Nautical all the way!!! A great shade for the summer!
