The Dupe List 2.0 Launches!

Ever fall in love with a product only to realize it’s too expensive or no longer available? The Dupe List makes life just a little easier whenever you’re looking for an alternative option, whether the original has long been discontinued, sold out in a hot minute, or you just want something a little easier on your wallet. Or maybe you just want to find out if something you own is close enough to the latest and greatest hyped up red lipstick. We’re here for you–constantly adding dupes that we find as we test and review new products–to make your beauty stash the best it can be!

The Dupe List 2.0 is jam-packed with features to make it easier than ever to find the dupes you’re looking for!

  • FASTER: Just start typing the product you’re looking for, and if we have it in our database, it’ll show up in a drop down for you to choose
  • COMPARE: If we have the swatches, see the original product and its dupe side-by-side so you can compare for yourself!
  • VOTE: Add your two cents (and then some!) and rate dupes on similarity and how they differ
  • LEGEND: At a glance, find out whether products are discontinued, limited edition, or permanent
  • VERIFIED: Temptalia Verified dupes are ones I’ve swatched, tested, and seen for myself, while Community Verified dupes are ones vetted and voted on by the community at large
  • REFINE RESULTS: Browse eyeshadow dupes generally, see dupes for red lipsticks, or filter the dupes for a particular shade by price and availability to find just what you’re looking for
  • SAVE FOR LATER: Add products you see easily to your Vanity or Wish List!
  • POSSIBLE DUPES:  Using our algorithm, we’ve created a list of products that may also be dupes but need to be formally submitted!

Check it out here!

Just start typing the shade you’re looking for!

And then watch the dupes appear!

Check out possible dupes and add them to the list!

Faster submission process!

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

WOW! You just saved me incalculable amount of time and lots of tab space! Thanks so much! No, seriously, I almost don’t know what to type, but thanks again for all your time and effort! (Wow again, how long did it take you to update the list?)

We have been working on The Dupe List since early December, with some groundwork done in May/June (we switched to The Foundation Matrix and completed that upgrade!). Took about 40 hours on my end to add the last 9 months’ worth of dupes! The boys did the majority of the work here.

Thank you! 🙂

Honestly only speaking for lipstick and lipstick only my Mac dupes as spot on as
They all are don’t compare to mac… For example Milani sangria to mac rebel..Milani sweet nectar to Mac morange… Exact dupes, and I love Milani there nude lipstick is my holy grail but I just always go for the Mac no matter how legit the dupe is

Wow! This is amazing, Christine! Now you can just click on the picture! This is great- you can actually see how it differs and it’s so easy! These features, along with the Foundation Matrix, make your blog really unique!

Varika Avatar

*and the really in-depth reviews of course! Your blog is the only one that I have every visited that is always consistent with mentioning the length of wear and possible dupes! It’s great because those are the first things I look at! 🙂

SERIOUSLY?! All I need to access on the internet is your website. This is truly amazing; I’m so impressed by your team’s innovative services for its users. I appreciate you so much! THANK YOU, CHRISTINE & TEAM TEMPTALIA!!!!!

This is going to be so epic! 😀

I know I can’t be the only person who is fascinated by going through the dupe list, even when I’m not actively looking for a dupe! It’s just mesmerising…

Thanks for all the work that you do with the dupe stuff, Christine. It really, REALLY makes it easier for those of us in lands where not every brand is available, and most prices are unfriendly!

Christine Avatar

I’m hoping it will just be fun to sift through now as well, since you can look at all the pretty pictures 🙂

There are a couple more features we’ll be adding going forward – like sorting by most votes, most similar, etc. so even if you aren’t looking for anything in particular, there’ll be interesting ways to view all the results!

This is super cool, but I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong… I search and select Wet n Wild under brand, it tells me no dupes found (I was curious what, if any, high end products it matched to). I searched bareMinerals shortly after, and it showed me two WnW dupes on the first page alone. I hit NYC Cosmetics by accident instead of NYX, and same thing, no dupes found, although I’m guessing they have dupes for the HE items as well.
Am I doing something wrong? Not meant to be a starting point? Programming? Regardless, your dupe list (hell, the entire site) is pretty awesome. So glad I found it! Have a good weekend, and keep up the awesome work!

Hi Lauren!

I’m not sure why Wet ‘n’ Wild isn’t working when you select that, so we’ll have to look into that. They definitely exist if you are searching by a particular shade. I know that we made last minute changes so that if you type in “wet n wild” or “Wet ‘n’ Wild” (with apostrophes), you’ll still get results, and maybe that bungled the drop down. I will have the boys look at it on Monday morning.

We might not have any dupes for NYC Cosmetics at the moment. We have about 300 dupes we need to add back manually (we already did the rest!), so there might be a few left there – but on my end, I haven’t reviewed much in the way of NYC, so that one might just not have any dupes at the moment!

Thank you for letting me know!

Thank you so much for putting this together! Unfortunately, I didn’t find a dupe for my beloved Benefit Sugar Cookie lipstick that is no longer available. Do you have any ideas?

Christine Avatar

Hi Jen!

Here’s my review, so this is what I tried to match against… http://www.temptalia.com/the-spring-season-benefit-sugar-cookie-lipstick

Chanel Ingenue is more orange, and though at a glance it seemed similar applied, I don’t think it’s that close – http://www.temptalia.com/product/chanel-rouge-coco-shine-hydrating-sheer-lipshine/ingenue

Burberry Heather Rose has a similar peach/orange coloring + gold shimmer, but it’s MUCH more pigmented – http://www.temptalia.com/product/burberry-lip-cover/heather-rose

Benefit’s lipstick used to be SO SO glossy, which is hard to find in a lipstick. I might consider trying to find a lipgloss dupe.

More shimmer – http://www.temptalia.com/product/urban-decay-naked-ultra-nourishing-lipgloss/freestyle
More orange/darker – http://www.temptalia.com/product/revlon-colorburst-lipgloss/peach

this is ridiculously awesome! i love it! your blog is already my favorite, but you just blew EVERYBODY else out of the water with this one. i don’t know of anything else like it. i think its going to be a real game-changer. you are a smart woman (your team must be pretty darn smart too)!

We won’t have dupes for everything (it is an ongoing, continuous project) but that’s definitely something we’d love to have in the future! We have just under 12,000 dupes right now, and more being added every day (by me, and as time goes forward, the community as well). There are 10,000 more dupes than we had in the 1.0 version, actually (these were ones I contributed myself), up from about 2,000 [unique] dupes from the community and readers 🙂

I’m happy to double check to make sure it’s working properly, if you share with me what shades you tried to find dupes for!
