Does your base/foundation routine change for winter?

I can get a little drier or at least, more prone to dryness, during the winter months, so if I’m drier, then I often reach for more medium coverage and less matte foundations.

I use a matte or satin finish liquid or cream foundation during the Spring/Summer and a serum type foundation more often over the colder months for the same reason (dry areas), sometimes a mineral powder foundation if I want heavier coverage and because I find it more forgiving to any drier areas. My skin used to be so much oilier, a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have ever thought I’d be using anything other than matte finish foundations at any time of year! Hitting my mid-30s has really changed my skin, and in a way that I actually really don’t mind. Like, we’re not encouraged to embrace the ageing process really, but I love not having to deal with the constant checking to see how shiny my t-zone is! I can deal with a couple of fine lines and a little dryness occasionally, not such a bad trade off.

Because of the heat and humidity here in summer, I do look for something that feels lighter and/or wears well and some sun protection is a bonus. In cooler months, I’m not quite as concerned with sun protection and something heavier or more nourishing/moisturizing doesn’t feel as uncomfortable.

Not drastically! I do wear more BB/CC creams during summer for the added moisture on very dry, hot days or anytime of year for more casual days. However, if I know that I need my foundation to hold up all day or for special occasions, I don’t care how hot, humid, whatever, I will wear my Lancôme Teint Idole 24H, because that stuff does not budge nor breakdown!

No, my skincare and foundation routine doesn’t change much through the seasons. As I am so fair, I don’t go out into the sun during the day – in fact hardly at all during summer. So there is no tanning for me.
I wear the same porcelain shades of foundation all year round.

Yes. As the warm summer/fall months move into winter, I apply foundation over moisturizer and a super hydrating primer to combat dryness. I also tend to prefer more full coverage foundations during the winter, as I don’t need to worry about my look being seriously disrupted by sweat or outdoor activities. I think I also favor my Beauty Blender during the wintertime because it applies foundation better over dry skin than brushes or fingers. I also have to mix my favorite foundation with a lighter one to get the right match when any color I had in my skin over the summer disappears.
