Do you pair your fragrance with your makeup look?

I’m more likely to choose a scent based on the season/temperature (sometimes heavier scents just feel too heavy if it’s 100+ degrees out!) than because of my makeup look myself!

I honestly didn’t even know that was “a thing” until I read this question! Nope, I never have. And certainly not something I would even do living in this part of the world. During summertime Fresh Life is about as potent a fragrance as I can handle, but I may still be out there in 110°+ with a serious smoky eye. Save my TF Black Orchid or Avon Christian LaCroix Absinthe for cool weather.

I used to match it to my outfits more than my makeup way back when, when I was in my late teens and 20’s. I had a whole dresser top full and sometimes it would be the red bottle because I was wearing a red shirt, or sometimes a musky spicy scent because I had on a turtleneck, sometimes it would be a floral scent because I was wearing pastels, etc. Now I wear only 2, regardless of season or clothes or makeup.

Only in the sense that I am choosing for the same occasion – If I am having a date night, I am likely wearing a sultry date night makeup look and a sexier scent, but if it’s a springtime workday it will be lighter makeup and a lighter scent.

I don’t even know how I would pair my makeup with my fragrance. Wear all green and orange makeup with my Lime, Basil & Mandarin perfume? Wear whites and creams with my vanilla fragrances?

No, I just wear what I feel like wearing and appropriate to the occasion and season. I might wear a light floral in the day or I might wear something lightly woody or vanilla-y. In the evening I’ll wear something stronger and more sexy especially if I’m going out.

Never. I may choose a different scent for a formal function over a casual function but I pretty much wear what I want, when I want, and it’s based primarily on my mood.

Am I crazy cause I totally do lol. If I have dark eye makeup like a smokey eye I usually wear a heavier sexy scent and if I am wearing lighter eye makeup than I go for a light floral or sweet scent.

Nope, but I do “pair” my fragrance to the event and time of day. For more formal evening evenings, I might wear something richer, deeper (YSL Opium or Halston). For day I’ll wear a lighter scent – right now Chloe Love Story is getting a lot of love, but Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh or Honey are other light faves.

I can’t say I’ve paired my fragrance with my makeup, but I have chosen my makeup and fragrance so that it goes with what I’m wearing. When I was young and went to the clubs, I didn’t wear my ultra-feminine, floral fragrances with my ripped jeans and leather. =)

Uh….no. How much time would it take to try all of your makeup looks, assuming you have more than one and then sample different fragrances, assuming you wear more than just one, and then determine what you think is the best pairing???? I don’t have that kind of time or compulsion.

Cathy Avatar

Yeah, I often do. And I pair my makeup with my outfit as well, that is, as far as my overall look goes. For example, today I’m pretty casual – khakis, a cotton sweater, ankle booties – so I’m wearing understated makeup and Amazing Grace as my fragrance. If I wear a pencil skirt, blouse and heels, I’ll break out D&G The One, Bond No. 9 I Love New York or Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. The fragrance I choose to wear matches my mood 🙂
