Do you have a fragrance you reach for on special occasions?

Nope! There aren’t any I save for a special occasion; I try to rotate through several scents every month, and then I’ll put a few away and add-in a few more for the next month.

Chanel 19 in the perfume formulation and Sisley’s Eau du Soir. Both are real special occasion scents for me. And while I don’t wear it any longer and I’m not sure if I ever even liked it, Estee Lauder’s original White Linen always brings back memories of my honeymoon, a really long time ago. I’d purchased a bottle as we were travelling to our honeymoon destination and the scent of it is so strongly linked to that time…every time I smell it, I’m back there almost 42 years ago! Scent really is such a strong link to memory.

You will find this quite interesting Mariella. For our last birthday (20/11), I got my twin sister two small bottles of Clinique’s Aronmatics for her to put in her handbag and she got me the Clinique’s Black Intense Aronmatics! You would love the Black Intense version I am sure – seeing as we are both Aronmatics fans.

I didn’t even know there was another version of Aromatics Elixir. I’ll have to see if the department store has it (the drugstore where I bought my last bottle – 20% off and it will last me for years) doesn’t seem to carry it in-store at least but I’ll have to give it a try and a sniff (though lately, Paloma Picasso has really moved into 1st place in the “sophisticated, sweater weather” perfum race; have you ever tried it?)

I’m very picky about fragrance and only usually find one scent for fall/winter and one for spring/summer and usually it’s pricey (for me.) So, I use it everyday! (That’s how I rationalize getting an expensive cosmetic by figuring out price per day= the more you use, the less the cost, lol.) Right now, Chanel No 5 L’eau, This past summer it was Aerin Lilac Path.

Cabochard de Gres. My mother: ‘I can’t believe you’re wearing that during the day.’ Or Sunday school, etc. Too intense and statement-y for everyday. My two preferred ancient Guerlain chypres: L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko. They are classics that are way older than me, and I’m older than dirt. Real big and dated/unpopular these days. I checked the notes and am always surprised how much I like them. Tribute to the art of blending. In h.s. I would borrow my mum’s Joy de Patou.

For special occasions I exclusively wear Tobacco Vanille. But I still wear it every couple of weeks or a few times a month, or a lot in the winter. It’s an extravagant and loud scent on me (even though I use one squirt on the back of my neck and maybe a couple of drops on my wrists) so I don’t throw it on for, say, the gym or errand running generally. I like smelling nice so there’s a tidy little stockpile of perfume oils that I wear most days – they just tend to cling closer to my skin so I’m not one of those obnoxious “you can smell my cloud five minutes after I was in the area.”

Funny you have this question…just this past weekend I went to a Christmas party and decided to switch up from the only perfume I wear Dior Addict. I put on some Guerlain Mitsuko, wow I thought why don’t I wear this more often, it’s complicated and dark and heaven. About three hours in it began to change big time. It went from smelling heavenly to almost rancid. Then boom I got a headache supreme. So much for a special event fragrance. I’ll give it to someone who can tolerate it. Sad.

I have become a frag-head this year! Maybe its because we were inside and I seemed to be at home more this year so I wear what pleases me. I’ve burst out of my previous comfort zone of citrus and light florals, into gourmands, orientals, etc…but I will not let go of D&G Light Blue Intense as a work fragrance. I love TF’s Lost Cherry and have back ups that I bought for good prices at the Cosmetic Stores because TF is under the Estee Lauder umbrella. I need to figure out a system for rotation, but as far as season, I really don’t pay attention to it. Loving more Niche fragrances!
