Dior Rose Garden (451) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Rose Garden (451) Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for spring. The eyeshadow formula feels different than their standard, permanent eyeshadow formula but similar to the formula used in the limited edition holiday palettes–more in the vein of MAC Extra Dimension and NARS Dual Intensity–but I couldn’t find anything from Dior that indicated these are actually wet/dry, though for your perusal, I swatched them both dry (left) and damp (right), so this review only covers dry application. I think that the eyeshadows perform much better damp, though, or with primer, as they run crumbly and/or powdery, so they tended to look a little dry or uneven applied to the lid as-is.
Rose Garden #1 is a light, chartreuse green with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a soft but dusty consistency that tended to sheer out on the lid. It lasted for seven hours on me. Make Up For Ever D316 Crystalline Pinky Green (DC, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Rose Garden #2 is a light-medium, sunny yellow with strong, warm undertones and a frosted finish. Rose Garden #5 is a slightly muted, dark purple-taupe with cooler undertones and a soft, frosted finish. Dior Rose Garden (451) Eyeshadow Palette with Marc Jacobs Peridot Eyeliner
I like the look you created, but I think I will pass, the pigmentation is a little less than I would have hoped for.
Thank you, Linda!
NOOOOO! So disappointed!
I hear ya 🙁
Oh no, for $ 63, I was hoping for a higher score. Not a dud but could be better. It’s so pretty in the pan, but drier dustier formulas tend to do really bad on my oily lids, even with primer, and that light beige shade probably won’t show up well on my skintone 🙁 I think the real star here is the Marc Jacobs Peridot eye liner –it looks very fresh for spring, might go for that instead
My guess is to stay away 🙁 It is pretty dusty!
#5 was my fave but I have Lhasa so no need!
Phew!
Too bad about the crumbly issue. At least it’s not tempting to me any more.
Right? Great color combo concept, though!
I know. And the floral embossing is soooo beautiful.
Despite this scoring just a B-, I really love this color combo! It screams SPRING! And green/hazel eye friendly, too. Not 100% certain I could get it to work even with primer and using it damp, though. I just don’t know?
Speaking of ColourPop Meow being a dupe, I actually posted a plea on a ColourPop Facebook post for Puppy Love asking them to rel-release Meow with all proceeds going to cat rescue! My comment has gotten a lot of “likes” so far, so I hope they do it!
Here’s hoping!!
Yes to MEOW!
I decided to skip on this palette due to seeing in Rachel R’s comment above, something my eyes missed while reading the review: crumbly . Crumbly scares me! Especially at $63! MUFE has some nice dupes….
Right??? I’m so heartbroken looking at this spring palette -if only Dior could’ve come through on the formula, I would do a neutral eye with a pretty pops of chartreuse green and yellow for spring. Instead, I will have to dig through my stash to get the look. Oh, I love your idea about Colour Pop Meow, and hope they put a sparkly cat paw print on the cover.
Same here, Katherine. I hadn’t noticed that one deal breaker word “crumbly” in my first read through. That color combo, though! So springy with soft neutral shades paired with two kapow pops of luminescent brights!
That’s awesome, Nancy. I have CP’s page liked, so I gave your comment a thumbs up in support.
Thanks Rachel, I saw it last night! Seems like it may be gaining steam! There are so many worthy cat rescue groups, but The Grannies Project blows me away with what they are willing to do to rehabilitate some of the most severely injured or sick cats, like Mr. Biscuits.
Passing. The yellow and green are just not something I would wear and the quality is too poor for the price point. I’m stuck on the highlighters. So, good thing for my wallet, I don’t have to worry about this too!
Well, at least there is something that catches your eye 😀
Lol. I don’t think there will ever be a shortage of things that “catch my eye”!
I don’t like this palette – none of the colours are for me. Besides, the rating does not justify the price. Hopefully, the other palette will be better.
Let’s hope so!
I like #5 but wow this quint is some serious crapola IMO. It could have been so beautiful. It’s like they don’t even care about quality control. Actually, they obviously don’t care at all. It makes me mad. Luxury is supposed to be all about care. Quality, attention to detail, excellence. That’s the reason for the price tag not the name. Ugh!! Rant over. I think that was just one poor quality high end offering over my line lol I’ll reset now.
It’s another miss from Dior 🙁
It’s so odd that Dior makes such pretty looking palettes but with clear formulation issues. They must have heard all the feedback on this– I guess they feel they will just sucker the next folks in that have not been through the experience. I have the older garden palette from a few years back and no problem, but not risking it again– nope. Thanks for testing it, Christine.
If they want to keep the texture as is, then they should start marketing everything as more of a wash of color, I think!
I love the taupe shadow, but the rest of the palette (shudder on the yellow and yellow green against my light yellow and olive undertoned skin) and having plenty of the taupe dupes qualify this as a definite no go. I love the embossing on the powder products in this collection.
It’s an interesting combo – definitely not one for everyone!
One of the better reviews and grades for a LE Dior palette, I think, still not good enough (for me) to buy as it is rather expensive. I do like the colours in this one, I think it’s fun and summery with the yellows, but at the same time I can see a lot of people backing away when it comes to yellow eyeshadows, maybe just my imagination.
Sadly, that is true – one of the better ones but still not impressive enough for the price point, I think.
The palette itself is beautiful. Etched flowers in the powder are way too cute. What is it with these Dior palettes though. They look so beautiful in the palettes but constantly fall short on the eyes. Other than #5, it is safe to say I am not impressed with any of these. I had high hopes for that yellow, too.
Lately, they seem to run dry/powdery – that seems to be the major issue!
Dior has told me before all their eyeshadows are wet/dry. When you open the case you can ease it open until the mirror ‘clicks’ giving you a place to put a drop or two of water to use with the eyeshadows in the palette. It definitely works to give more intensity to shades when you want it. The wet/dry swatches here are great and i love the look you created!
It’s interesting, because they say it on some products but not on all, so it is a little confusing!
Yeah their Canadian PR let me know but it really should be clearly stated on everything because like you showed, you can get some gorgeous results wet! I am definitely finding their new eyeshadow formula better though and although I haven’t tried this yet I love the cranberry quint from holiday and I want to see more shades like that!
And that’s why I waited for your review. Sigh, Dior. One day you’ll release a quint worth the crazy price tag.
One day, one day. I feel like they’re on the right track with this new formula (which they’ve used twice now at least, back-to-back), but it’s too dusty.
Pretty! I wasn’t expecting your eotd to look like that – guess I was expecting more yellow – but I like it a lot.
Thanks, Melissa!
I wish Dior’s eyeshadows were more pigmented, because they release a lot of really pretty and somewhat unique palettes. I’ve been tempted by so, so many, but the only one to meet my expectations in recent years was Bonne Etoile.
I try to use their palettes as inspiration for new color combos… but with other products, lol.
The look is so pretty! I like how Dior put unexpected colors together in a palette.
I have similar colors, so I’ll have to try recreating this look once spring is around corner.
Hope you can recreate it with better products during spring 😀
