Dior Jardin (456) Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Jardin (456) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Jardin (456) Eyeshadow Palette ($62.00 for 0.21 oz.) is one of the more recently released quints, and it is part of the permanent range as far as I know. I picked it up awhile ago when I initially was trying out the new range, and it seemed promising when swatched, but there’s a dryness to the formula that can make it difficult to blend and apply on bare skin. Over primer, it’s easier to work with, but it’s still not a formula I’d reach for or would feel comfortable recommending. As they have a drier, dusty kind of texture, they tend to sheer out on the skin or look dry and fade more quickly.
Jardin #1 is a light-medium, neutral-to-warm-toned sage green with a soft, metallic shimmer-sheen finish. It had good color payoff, but the texture was a smidgen on the dry side, so it sheered out readily on the lid. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Jardin #2 is a brightened beige with a frosted finish and subtle warm undertones, though it tended to read almost cool-toned on me. It had good pigmentation that applied decently, but it was also a little dry to work with. It had started to look faded after seven hours of wear. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Jardin #3 is a medium-dark, khaki green with warm, olive undertones and a frosted finish. It had nice color payoff with a moderately dry, thin consistency that had faded noticeably after seven hours of wear. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Jardin #4 is a brightened, pinky-white with a frosted sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage with a soft, smooth texture that adhered well to the skin. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Jardin #5 is a deepened, almost blackened blue with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It swatched really beautifully with rich color payoff, but the texture was dry, and I had trouble with blending it out; it tended to just stick where it was initially applied. It did wear better than other shades at eight hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

That blue is stunning. But other than that shade the colors don’t really excite me.
Thankfully, it’s fairly dupable!
These colors are so pretty. Such a shame that they didn’t perform better! At this price,I will be passing. I love the look though and will probably try to copy with some dupes!
Thank you, Nicole! 🙂
Hi Nicole! Sorry this is off track, but the L’Oreal Silkissime Liner in Pure Purple is pretty close in color to Chanel Orchidee. The L’Oreal one leans a little more purple and Orchidee leans a little more violet. But depending on what color purple shadow you are using underneath, they can look either the same, or the L’Oreal can look more violet and Chanel can look more purple! So…..if you use the right purple shadow, the L’Oreal one will look just like Orchidee! I’m just hoping the L’Oreal one can hold up on my oily lids. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info Katherine! I’m glad you found a close dupe too! Just fyi, Marc Jacobs has a really nice purple liner called plum(age). Its probably not like Orchidee. But it’s permanent and gorgeous. Plus it stays on like crazy!
Thanks for the tip Nicole! I googled MJ Plum(age) and it’s really gorgeous–love the purple shimmer, will have to check it out! I also used Temptalia’s swatch tab and found a few more dupes for Orchidee — MAC Designer Purple, UD Psychedelic Sister, Milani Perfect Purple. They aren’t exact dupes but close enough, and all got A ratings. And the L’oreal dupe stayed on my oily lids all day, on top of shadow and eye primer, so I’m good. My wallet is doing a happy dance 🙂
Great news Katherine! Happy Dancing Wallets= Happy Dancing owners of wallets,I say!
I’ve gotta a few appointments near the mall this week so I’m may accidentally find myself in Nordstrom checking out Orchidee. I’m so curious about it now! I’m glad you found some good dupes. I don’t like falling in love with LE things at all!
Aww! I love sharing! 🙂 UD liners produce zero color on me, I don’t understand it at all. MJB are my HG! I’m glad you love that one! It is budge proof and stunning! 😀 As for Milani, I had a reaction. I also vehemently implement the fact that colors always appear differently on everyone’s skin & texture, so it’s difficult unless we try them. @Nicole It’s okay if you fall in love with a LE item. Enjoy it while you can and be grateful you had the opportunity! It gives you a basis to compare others to in the future! (Positive thinking! I’m going to cave too) lol 😛
Those are my ultimate loves, Nicole! And jazz berry.. Wherever the parentheses go.. That formula and their colors astound me. It’s nice seeing them get some love! <3 🙂
That navy blue shade is beautiful!
It is pretty to look at!
The colours look really nice, perfect for everyday wear I think!
It’s a nice combo!
Oh my, this is so pretty! I’m trying to tell myself I really have NO need for this since almost every shade is a dupe of 2 or 3 shadows I already own but, oh….that blue/teal #5…. I just told myself that after finally getting MUFE Nudes You Need and making plans for Hourglass Colourfield and those repromoted Extra Dimension shadows from MAC, I will not buy any more shadows but already my resolve is crumbling!
LOL! I feel like it’s a poor imitation of the Bonne Etoile palette, though 🙁
Keep telling me this – I need to be discouraged from buying it. Can you come to my house and physically stop me from buying this????
LOL! If I could, I would. If only to properly thank you for all the valuable contributions you’ve made to the site over the years, so the LEAST I can do is prevent you from buyine this palette 😉
What a nice thing to say, Christine! You’ve certainly made this site a wonderful one to contribute to. And you’ve put a smile on my face. Again, thanks!
Awww! Hugs all around 😀
Well, this is one of the better performing Dior quints. I like the color combo, goes well with the Jardin or Garden theme, perfect for spring.
Definitely not a total dud!
I looove the blue and olive shades! The rest are just okay.
Yeah, it wasn’t the worst Dior palette, but it wasn’t great!
Interesting review. This was the very first Dior palette I ever purchased and after trying it for a week it went directly into the garbage. Clearly you had better luck with it than I did. I found the pigmentation to be lacking in all shades and it had almost no staying power at all. I’ve had better luck with cheap drugstore palettes. Certainly not what I expected from Dior (esp. since I love many of their other cosmetics: Diorshow, Rouge Baume, etc.) I have not purchased a Dior palette since this one – I don’t mind dropping money on a palette but I do mind spending money on something that ends up in the trash.
I wish you could have returned it instead of trashing it!
Ugh.
#5, why you so pretty…
Those types of blues are so nice!
Nice shades. I really like #1. I was thinking it reminded me of MUG Charmed, and then saw it was a dupe.
You have a good eye, Rachel!
Love these colors and your application. Much softer looking than I expected. I have a couple Dior Eyeshadow Palettes but didn’t notice dryness. These palettes are not new.
Is this a change for Dior or inconsistencies?
Dior changes their formulas ALL the time!
I love the eye look! 🙂
Thanks, Jade!
Too bad, the colors are usable
At least it can be used for inspiration!
I had an MUA use this palette on me and the look was gorgeous but after purchasing a few Dior quints in the past and being disappointed in the quality I skipped buying it. For the price I’m looking for something special and I wouldn’t put this palette in that category. The eyeshadows look lovely in the pan and that draws you in but be wary, often they aren’t up to scratch. 😛
Yes, I have so many Dior palettes that are disappointing 🙁 Probably rivals MAC quads in terms of hit/miss ratio!
Well, if nothing else, the quality seems to beat out those Guerlain singles contained in what DOES look like miniature golden coffins! The colors are quite pretty, but oh so dupable though so I will pass on this.
LOL! Silver lining ;P
My son bought me this palette for my birthday last year and I love it. And yes, the colours are generally sheer (apart from the teal), but they work really well with my complexion. I think the Jardin palette was the best out of the bunch they released last year. That teal is gorgeous and I find myself wearing this palette a lot.
I also meant to add how much I liked your eye look Christine, you have really done the colours justice. Just beautiful.
So glad this one is working well for you, Genevieve! 🙂
I like the first colour, will probably order Charmed. I have so many Dior quads, some from way back, when they actually were very good and some not so old that was so disappointing that I gave up on their eyeshadows. I haven’t bought anything at all from Dior at all for a few years now, oh a lie, I did buy a single eyeshadow that looked so goodand swatched nicely, but sad to say, I don’t like it on the eyes.
I will not buy anything Dior unless you give it an A, Christine.
I wish I could listen to myself and not buy Dior unless it was an A, LOL!
I’ve researched online for this eyeshadow a lot, I’ve been thinking of buying it, again a lot. This particular one received very good reviews. The rest of the collection, not so stellar and it varies (Pied-de-Poule seems to be 50/50 for example), but this one hasn’t a single less than perfect review. Until yours.
Sorry! 🙁
