Dior Golden Reflections (046) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Golden Reflections (046) Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0. 21 oz.) is a limited edition palette that features five shades ranging from gray to gold to beige. I think Dior does interesting color combinations at times, but I find that too often the quality of their eyeshadows is lacking. If you prefer a softer, sheerer, more muted look out of shades like these, you may enjoy this palette. If you want more true-to-pan color, I would skip.
Golden Reflections #1 is a medium-dark, warm-toned gray with a frosted sheen. The texture seemed like it was going to smooth, but there was a dryness there that made the color look uneven and almost patchy applied, while the color coverage was semi-opaque. It wasn’t readily blended, and it lasted for seven and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Golden Reflections #2 is a muted, golden, olive brown with a pearly sheen. It had nice color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that wore well for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Golden Reflections #3 is a brightened, light-medium beige with warm undertones and a sparkly, glittery finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, though it was mostly glitter and not a lot of color. It’s better patted over one of the other shades than used alone. I did have some fall out over time. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Golden Reflections #4 is a light, warm beige with a mostly matte finish. The consistency was slightly powdery, but it had decent to good pigmentation and blended well. It wore well for almost eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Golden Reflections #5 is a light-medium, gray-taupe with a soft, satin finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, and the eyeshadow felt somewhat powdery, which made it harder to build-up on the skin. This shade showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The quality doesn’t sound good at all. Especially not for the price. Easy skip!
Yay for your wallet!!
The palette gives off such a beautiful appearance, especially that antique gold shade, but then it swatches so… meh. I don’t know why this is supposed to be Dior.
The antique-y gold is really the only nice shade in it 🙁
“I think Dior does interesting color combinations at times, but I find that too often the quality of their eyeshadows is lacking.”
That’s exactly how I feel about Dior eyeshadows. I remember being so excited over their Trafalgar palette, but the lack of pigmentation in the lighter shades was just completely unworkable. I ended up returning it, even though I really love that pink color in the middle…haven’t found an exact dupe for it yet.
There are only a handful of Dior palettes I’ve really loved, and at least two of them were a very different formula (that was LE, of course!), unfortunately!
Me too, they need to step up their game.
Too expensive to be getting these kind of grades.
I don’t think it’s worth even $30!
Not with a D+ and a C.
I need to get that liner, Christine! I’ve seen it many times here and every time I see it, I’m like… Wow,
That is a gorgeous liner! Gotta just get it finally. Unimpressed with the palette… Im kinda tored of that type of shadows, like the glittery one. I rarely ever use it. Still you did a beautiful job.
Love, love that liner! It pops so much!
I was eyeing this, I agree with you that the Dior eye palettes are a mixed bag, so I always swatch and wait for reviews before buying. It is SO gorgeous looking, but when the anchor color (the gray) doesn’t perform that well, it’s hard to justify paying that much money for this. Still it’s a pretty-looking holiday set, especially if you like your colors softer, which is not a bad thing as I get older.
You definitely should love the palette you’re getting for $50+ 🙁
Like so many Dior palettes, this LOOKS so lovely in the pan but eye shadow is all about how it applies, so looking lovely just sittin’ there doesn’t quite cut it! I’m surprised by how disappointing the first shade is and the middle one – even just looking at it, it looks like it would be rough and gritty (a la Retrospeck). I have enough rough, gritty glittery beige shades already (a la Retrospeck and Clarins Forest #2) so don’t need another one. What a shame this isn’t better – if it were an A or maybe even A-, I’d be thinking about getting it.
I was surprised this one was as problematic as it ended up being, because they aren’t BLUES, which are easily Dior’s weakest area… I didn’t think they’d miss on gray!
I have this palette, and I agree with you: interesting color combo, nice shades, but the quality of the shadows is mediocre. Too much powderiness, and I also have A TON of fallout, especially with the dark grey (which is the most disappointed shade for me).
I learnt recently that you can also use them wet, so it might help with the intensity and ease of application. I also find that they perform better on the eye than swatched (except for the dark grey) which is often the case with Dior palettes in my experience.
At this point, I enjoy looking at Dior’s palettes for inspiration, but I don’t think it’s a product I’d recommend (at least, not without being able to swatch in person).
I love the colours of this palette, but they are just too sheer. What a shame!
Such a disappointment!
Why, Dior? Why does this quint look so gorgeous and fall down on quality? The colors would be a total win for me, but I am glad that I waited for your review and did not purchase.
I don’t know! 🙁 I feel like this is the way with Dior over the past few years with their quints.
It’s sad that most if the 5 pan shadows are lacking pigment. If I were to splurge on a 5 pan palette are there any you would recommend? Or all them mainly a miss? Thanks!
I don’t know that any of them are worth the splurge – Cuir Cannage was decent to good, but I felt like it was too dupable not to be A+.
Thanks! I do have Grege and it’s ok. But I could have spent that money on a better palette that I would get more use out of!
thanks for reviewing this. I’ve been wanting this & the purply one (it that a word?), lol.. but most of the time I wind up disappointed with the Dior palettes & I don’t have any place around me that I can see them in person so I’ve been hesitant about pulling the trigger & buying them online.
I try to like Dior eyeshadows. Never happens. I even wanted to get the holiday palette with the lipstick and blush. When I swatched the colors, the swatches were dry and patchy. Just might get the Suqqu holiday ones instead, but they are so expensive.
I tried this palette yesterday during a makeover – the eyeshadows are quite sheer, even with a primer, so I think it’s quite safe to say, even if it is a great holiday palette, it might not be for everyone!
The poor pigmentation really makes me sad as I was thinking of getting this one. I’d heard that their formula improved but maybe not? This has so much potential. 🙁
It really looks so lovely in the pans, this quint. I swatched it some weeks ago and was so disappointed by it. I wanted it to be as good as it looked, but no.
Dior used to make quite good eyeshadows a longish time ago. I have a few really good quints and some LE palettes that I really love, but this! This is so not for me, but we are all different and some might really like this because it doesn’t have opaque shadows.
T, did you try these wet by any chance? Totally different quint! #5 is one of my favorite shades for an all-over crease color, when applied and layered with a damp brush.
I didn’t! I’ve never had much luck with Dior’s formula wet except the more metallic shades.
They’re so pretty 🙁 But so sucky…. I feel ya on the color schemes Christine. Dior is very original on that front. Now, if only they could do quality, too…
Sad that shade one turned out so crappy!
