Dior Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Early Bird (659)
Dior Early Bird (659) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($62.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for the fall season. All five shades were blendable, long-wearing, and easy to use, while two shades were more semi-opaque and buildable rather than fully opaque. The formula felt like a gel-powder hybrid, so they have a more “baked” quality to them, which can require a slightly heavier hand if one is used to working with more powdery formulas.

Early Bird #1
Early Bird #1 is a bright, light-medium red with warmer undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, which applied well to my lid and diffused easily along the edges. The eyeshadow was moderately dense without being stiff or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

It’s not bad. However, I feel like this is definitely something I can easily dupe with what I have already. It’s the other one I’m trying to get my hands on! No one has it😭
I really like #2 and 5 but I’m glad I’ve got dupes for these. I even have dupes for #3 (which looks more wearable for me in the swatches than in the pan). Crazy thing – the other day, I was saying how these quints appeal to me as objects rather than as shadows I’d wear. Well, it turns out that I actually do have a silk scarf in the colours of this palette (it’s a really lovely scarf). Of course, who knows when it will be cool enough to wear a scarf….
A pretty good rating, but the shades selection seems fairly random to me – not quite sure what that sickly yellow shade is doing there. Two of the shades – 2 & 3 were poorly pigmented to my eyes too. I like the Night version a lot better.
That mustard shade is unusual; not sure I have anything quite like it in my collection. I can make warm tones work but prefer cool or neutral. Night Bird suits my skin tone much better. So this is a pass.
So far I have dupes for all the Bird palettes. I am trying to find tutorials now.
