Dior Candy Cane & Popsicle Double Rouge Matte Metal Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

Candy Cane (322)
Dior Candy Cane (322) Double Rouge Matte Metal Colour & Couture Contour Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish with faint pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied smoothly and evenly across my lips without tugging. The two shades mixed as they were applied, and I didn’t have to do much in the way of blending after the initial application. The texture was lightweight, creamy without being slippery, and not too thick or too thin, so it was comfortable to wear. It lasted nicely for five and a half hours on me and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.12 oz. - $316.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to mix a "vibrant hue" with a "pastel shade" to create "lips like candy." It's supposed to be "highly pigmented" with a more satin finish. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and comfortable to apply and to wear, as it had enough slip to glide but not enough that it felt slippery while worn. They had good color coverage that was nearly opaque to full coverage in a single layer. The two colors seemed to mix as they were applied to my lips, but there might be a need for some subtle pressing and blending of colors along the edges to get a really seamless lip look. On me, the lipsticks lasted four to six hours on me, depending on the shade. They had a floral scent but no discernible taste.

Popsicle (353)
Dior Popsicle (353) Double Rouge Matte Metal Colour & Couture Contour Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright pop of medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. It had a deeper center with a lighter, warmer pink around it, and I did notice the edge of my lips was a couple of shades lighter than the rest of my lips. It had good pigmentation in one pass, but it had moderate slip and felt a little creamier than other shades, so there was slight streaking along the edges and a smidgen of product that gathered in my lip lines. I didn’t notice the color in my lip lines from a normal viewing distance, though. It wore well for four and a half hours on me and was moisturizing to wear.

Candy Cane (an odd name for a January release) looks quite gorgeous on the lips, but so ugly, almost shockingly so, in the tube. It’s almost tempting, but I will resist.
My first thought was, “Did they forget to release this one during the holidays??”
Candy Cane is absolutely gorgeous! It looked a gross dark brown in the tube, but wow, is it pretty on.
Right?! It looks so ugly in the tube, but perfect on!
So much prettier applied than looking at these tubes themselves had me imagining! Especially Candy Cane! Perfect rich, dark plum.
The end result is definitely pretty, but what is the point of the two colors? Is it just a gimmick?
“A formulation challenge: combining a pigmented satiny contour with a matte heart so that upon application the two shades work in harmony, with a sophisticated finish and an impression of volume.”
Maybe something about matte and satin mixing together gives it better balance between adhesion / shine? It’s hard to say without having the same shade pre-mixed if it’s really better/worse/the same. There’s a subtle ombre effect (more or less depending on the shade), but with it being fully encased, as you slide the lipstick across, you are pulling some of that darker shade over the lighter “heart.”
I find that very interesting. Thanks.
It very much seems like a gimmick, but how pretty Candy Cane is! This looks like it will be the first true challenge to my no-buy!
I like the popsicle shade, but the idea seems like such a gimmick. I don’t see the point of the two shades if they just combine like normal.
Isn’t Candy Cane beautiful? Love the two tone.
I like both of these but Candy Cane is my favorite. Looks like the perfect deep purple/plum shade. I think the formula sounds interesting as all matte might be rather uncomfortable to wear. I like that it applied like a traditional lipstick and stays put when applied.
I don’t want to stick a pin in anyone else’s appreciation of these, but stuff like this seems so gimmicky to me.
Lovely color. I haven’t been able to buy Dior lipsticks since they started adding mango to their ingredient list. I’m horribly allergic to mango!!! It’s not an uncommon allergy so I wish they wouldn’t add what is really an unnecessary ingredient, but luckily plenty of other lipsticks out there. Just am always a little sad when pretty Diors go by.
That sucks! One of the teachers at my daughter’s school is deathly allergic to mango and no one in the entire school is allowed to bring anything mango. And yet they allow nut products which was a shock to me the first time I heard it. It’s still unbelievable to me.
Do you know when is going to be available internationally?
What an interesting color Candy Cane is! And Popsicle isn’t too and either.
The more I look at the candy cane one in the bullet, the less appealing it is. But it is certainly pretty on.
