ColourPop x Kathleen Lights Zodiac Loose Pigment ($6.00 for 0.078 oz.) is a reformulated take on the brand’s Loose Pigments, and it also features new packaging and a new(ish) shade range. Here are swatches…

Bonus: Video Swatches ♫

Editor’s note: Testing out “swatches only” format for larger or more current/hyped up/popular launches to put video content up immediately vs. 1-2 weeks later after I’ve had a chance to test the products. More likely for very large releases, like 20+ eyeshadows or lipsticks, which can take 1-3 weeks for me to review in full to get a round-up/overview content done. This particular set of products just happened to be a good fit to test drive now vs. in the thick of things 🙂

Thanks for sharing these so quickly! They look a lot different than the swatches Colourpop posted to their Instagram story, likely because they soaked their brushes in mixing medium (from what I could tell). I loved the look of The Crab, but I’m not loving it quite as much when applied dry.

Yeah, those are SUPER wet swatches — these are with a damp brush (water) as they are not supposed to be used dry over bare skin (they specifically say to use them wet).

From ColourPop:

> These ultra-fine pigments are best used wet for a supercharged, intense metallic or duochrome finish.
> Loose Pigments should never be applied to a dry, bare eye.

ThatGirlShaeXo did live swatches where she used each color just on top of concealer on one eye and a wet brush with ColourPop’s setting spray on the other eye. Kathleen did both swatches with a wet brush and then swatches over a glitter glue. Kathleen suggested definitely using the more glittery pigments over the glitter glue and mentioned using a mixing medium.

I purchased The Archer, The Twins, The Scales and The Crab. But now that I’ve seen Christine’s closeup swatches I with I’d also ordered The Bull, The Fish and The Goat. And if I like the ones I got I’ll probably order those as well. That is if I ever get them. ColourPop is so slow to ship compared to other places I order from.

Really? I have had the opposite happen to me with colourpop. I ordered when it launched which was on Thursday and I received it today Monday. I feel like their shipping has gotten much better but maybe it has to do with where you ar located

These are pretty, but I imagine that they will be more of a challenge to use since you have to wet the brush to use them. I can imagine that they will need some kind of tacky surface just to stay on all day. I’ve never really used pigments. It sounds like a pain in the butt. Is that normal?

Most loose eyeshadows (or pigments) tend to need to be used with a wet brush or over a tacky base. The ones that can be used on their own can still have some fallout when applied dry. The best I’ve tried that are more “as-is” are MAC pigments, though they still tend to be better wet. I don’t find that they need a tacky base to stay on all day (depending on the formula), but it’s the getting on / getting pigmentation that requires the wet application typically!

These are pretty and I love the video you put up. I’m just iffy on getting these because how often am I really going to use a loose pigment? I don’t like messy and I feel like I could make a big mess with these. I might pick up one of them just to test it out and who knows, maybe I’ll fall in love.

I feel like if you aren’t a fan of loose pigments, generally, these aren’t going to change your mind radically – they still have all the frustrations of a loose pigment especially since they don’t have a sifter, so the taller jar can get knocked over and it is hard to get just the amount of product you want out.

Some gorgeous colors, but you know yourself better – if you actively dislike using loose pigments because of the general problems/cons of loose pigments, I’d look at dupes or hope they launch similar shades in another format!

I have never used a loose pigment so I don’t know whether or not I like them. Loose pigments have always kind of scared me… but this is inexpensive enough that it might be worth trying. Maybe I’ll end up loving loose pigment and find that they really amplify my eye looks! If it doesn’t work the way I want I wouldn’t be mad at being out $6.

I got one (the fish) when I did my last order and I’m surprised at how much I like it. This stuff has some lasting power…it survived a very busy 8 hr kitchen shift like it was nothing. Im pretty impressed. I’m probably gonna break down and buy the set now.
