ColourPop x Bretman Rock Collection Swatches

ColourPop x Bretman Rock Collection launches today at 10AM PST and includes two mini-collections — the Lit Collection, which is warmer-toned, and the Wet Collection, which features cooler-toned shades. Each collection includes an eight-pan eyeshadow palette (worth noting: the pans are like their regular palettes; not as large as the Semi-Precious eight-pan palette), blush, liquid lipstick, lip gloss, lip pencil (both shades included are from the permanent range), and a body glitter (new formula). Here are swatches!

Oh Em Gee! These are very nice looking palettes and I also love both USLS, too! But, I have got to stop with the eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks, because I have things that I haven’t even used yet. Besides, Wet palette has shades that I believe can be relatively duped within my old KVD Metal Matte palette and also UD Urban Spectrum Palette, too. That Lit palette is a stunner, though. Even if easily duped!
The names on this collection…are a choice.
I’m pretty tired of seeing LGBT people criticized for using the slang they use in their personal lives in their products/collabs. You may not get it, but it borders on being homophobic. And it’s…a choice.
I love the blue toned palette, Wet and hope that it turns out to be a good one.
I like both collections, but I’m sure I can dupe. I need to use some of the palettes I’ve recently bought.
I have my eyes on the Wet palette and would love to see a review from Christine, since Colourpop has been a little inconsistent on the quality of greens and blues. That cobalt looks like it could be patchy and sheer like the Aquarius shade from the Zodiac palette, which is a headache to work with…
Hmm that warm tone palette looks like Coloured Raineโs Queen of hearts gave birth to it..
100%
Eye-popping palettes! I’m really liking the pairing of the blue palette with the orange blush and warm base colors. Not interested in the body glitter, but the red one sure is nice to look at.
I picked up the Wet palette for myself. Most of the swatches look solid except for Chillen, and even Bretman himself was honest and said it would need to be built up. But it’s the metallics that I’m excited about because I want something like them in my arsenal, and I don’t have anything like them. I’m REALLY looking forward to your reviews of everything, Christine
Wow Christine. Stunning look. Keep this one is the rotation.
Your hair looks amazing!! The look with the Lit collection is perfection!
Thereโs a huge controversy going on concerning this release. The Indie brand Lemonhead has these glitters. Bretman Rock showed himself using them and stated how much he loved them. These look exactly like them. Look at Kjbennettbeauty IG or Twitter page.
Hey Hollie,
ColourPop’s ingredient list for their glitter gel is notably different from Lemonhead’s – they use similar core ingredients like PET (the glitter particles) as do most glitter-heavy products. It’s not unusual for brands to purchase, try/test, and compare their products to competitor’s – it is part of doing market research and product development. Whether the aim is to replicate or more in the vein of, “that’s nice but we can do better” it’s just not… a controversy? If you were developing a new cream eyeshadow formula, would you ignore everything on the market already? Lemonhead revealing private customer information is more concerning to me.
For a good overview on common glitter ingredients, here’s Lit’s loose glitter ingredient list: Polyethylene Terephthalate CAS-No 25038-59-9, Acrylates Copolymer CAS-No 9010-88-2, Surface Binder CAS-No 125826-44-0 Polyurethane 33, Polyethylene Naphthalate CAS-No 25853-85-4, Polymethyl Methacrylate CAS-No 9011-14-7, Acrylic Resin, Melamine Resin, Aluminum CAS-No 7429-90-5 CI 77000.

While glitter suspended in gel is nothing new (NYX had a Glitter Gel with a glycerin base at least as far back as 2011, pre-dating Lemonhead), so I’m not even sure why Lemonhead is getting involved here. More over, though, is this is part of being in a competitive industry where little is protected – the formula isn’t the same by the ingredient list, both in the order but also in several ingredients that don’t overlap. It’s like when liquid lipstick became a huge trend in the industry; sure, there were some standout formulas from key brands, but then every brand came out with their own variation – and lots of those bases were similar in ingredient order/components with some being more or less similar. I also wrote about the art of duping with respect to more obvious instances, like palettes by Bad Habit or Makeup Revolution, here.
There are artistry brands like Graftobian who do glitter gel, and there are tons of listings on Etsy for glitter gels, too. I’d expect to see a ton more glitter-based products cropping up in the next year as the glitter trend takes hold. I look at Lemonhead as a brand that pursued glitter gel aggressively and likely invested a lot of time to get their formula just right along with the ratios of this size/shape with this other size/shape … but if another brand duped the effective color/appearance – it’s common – look at NARS Orgasm Blush, one of the most duped shades available.
Hope that sheds some light on the situation! ๐
Excellent reply. You sure do your research!
