ColourPop Wave Breaker Super Shock Shadow Duo Review & Swatches
Wave Breaker
ColourPop Wave Breaker Super Shock Shadow Duo ($12.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new cream eyeshadow duo designed to complement the High Tides palette. It features Coconut, a repromote, and Shore Thing, which is new (at least to me!). Both shades were pigmented, emollient, and fairly easy to work with, though Coconut was a little more emollient than ideal.

Coconut
Coconut is a deep blue with subtle, cool undertones and a smooth, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly but was best applied using a moderately-dense shader brush and packed on. Once it dried down to a more powder-like finish, it could be blended out without becoming a little patchy (due to the formula being a little too emollient initially). It wore well for 10 hours without fading or creasing on me.

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.
From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).
The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.
The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

Shore Thing
Shore Thing is a bright, lighter teal with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had rich color coverage in a single layer paired with a smooth, moderately emollient consistency that felt cream-like to the touch but was quick to dry down to a more powder-like formula as soon as it came into contact with my skin. It stayed on nicely for 10 hours without fading or creasing on me.

This is another beautiful combination and I think the Coconut shade is a perfect blue one.
These are pretty summer colors.
I love these new duo kits but I only recently got into Super Shocks (bought their Furr-riends Forever duo, which I literally use everyday for work) and trying to keep my purchases minimal since they’re cream and in pots. I did buy two more in the last sale though!
You said it! I allow myself to own about two of these shadows at a time. That way when they dry out 2 weeks-2months later, I’m not really upset by it
I think the fatal flaw is the color-viewing window on the front. I seal them up tight and follow all the other guidelines and they still dry out, but I have had the little color viewing window come loose, fall in, etc. I think that’s where the “dried out” air is coming from.
I love Coconut. I purchased it years ago, before CP really went wild with the weekly releases and waste creation for the sake of waste creation. It looks A LOT like the blue in the little PMG quint in the clear plastic packaging.
Coconut is the best! Interesting that this iteration is more emollient and blendable after drying. That sounds like it could be very cool.
