ColourPop Super Shock Cheeks (Bronzers)
ColourPop Super Shock Cheeks (Bronzers)

ColourPop Bon Voyage Super Shock Cheek (Bronzer) ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “soft tan in a matte finish.” It’s a muted, light-medium brown with subtle, warm, yellow undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a lightly velvety texture–a little drier than the highlighter formula but on par with the matte blushes–that is easily blended on the skin. The color wore well for nine hours on me. ColourPop Skinny Dip (P, $8.00) is warmer. MAC Golden Rinse (LE, $35.50) is lighter, warmer. MAC Matte Bronze (LE, $70.00) is less shimmery, warmer. Tarte Park Ave. Princess #2 (LE, ) is more shimmery, warmer. MAC Aphrodite’s Shell (LE, $33.00) is warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Terra (P, $65.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty Close-Up #2 (LE, ) is lighter. MAC Matte Bronze (P, $25.00) is lighter. Benefit Hoola (P, $28.00) is darker, warmer. Make Up For Ever #20M (P, $36.00) is less shimmery, cooler. ColourPop Carry-on Super Shock Cheek (Bronzer) ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “soft bronze in a matte finish.” It’s a brightened, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was mostly opaque, while the texture had a velvety, smooth feel to it without really being “wet” to the touch. It applies more like a powder product and doesn’t lift any base products unless you really rub it on with fingertips. On me, the color wore well for nine hours before fading. Urban Decay Naked on the Run Bronzer (LE, ) is lighter. Clarins Splendours (LE, $35.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. MAC Bronzer (LE, $30.00) is lighter, warmer. NARS Vientiane (P, $39.00) is darker, warmer. NARS Altai (P, $39.00) is warmer. MAC Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer (LE, $25.00) is darker, warmer. Make Up For Ever #25I (P, $36.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Happy Hour Super Shock Cheek (Bronzer) ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “deepened bronze in a matte finish.” It’s a rich, medium-dark, red-toned brown with a matte finish. The texture was slightly more emollient compared to the other two bronzers in this review, which made it easier to work with. It blends on nicely (more like a powder product), and it lasted for nine hours before fading slightly. NARS Vientiane (P, $39.00) is warmer. ColourPop Swift (P, $8.00) is brighter, warmer. NARS Cappadoce (P, $39.00) is warmer. Le Metier de Beaute Sun Drenched (P, $55.00) is more shimmery. MAC Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer (LE, $25.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer. MAC Billionaire Bronze (LE, $29.50) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

This is totally unrelated to the post, but you have a TJ MAxx ad at the top of your screen (top banner ad above your top post) that will randomly start playing an actual commercial. If you rollover certain versions of the ad voices and music start playing. I don’t think you like those types of ads on your blog so I thought I’d let you know! 🙂

I’m so glad you’re reviewing these right away. You’re awesome! Bon Voyage looks promising for pale skin. Is that ColourPop’s lightest bronzer shade? How does it compare to Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil? (I didn’t see it in the dupes.) I can get away with Tarte Park Avenue Princess original, but I haven’t tried Version #2 (which I see is a dupe). Thank you!

OK; thank you, Christine. Knowing Bon Voyage is the lightest one is very helpful. It was sweet of you to go through the trouble of googling the Milk Choc. Soleil.

Sigh, I think the lightest shade is still too warm and dark for me. Oh well, more money for their shadows and lippies!

Hi Christine!

Lovely reviews (as usual). Would you say that any of them compare to Hoola Bronzer? I bought Carry On because it seemed similar to me. I won’t be disappointed if it’s not, still looks beautiful, but just curious :).

As I looked these 3 over, what popped into my head but Goldilocks and the 3 bears, first one: too light, second one: too yellow, third one: a bit too reddish….oh well, I’ll just wait for the next 3 cuz no bowl of perfect bronzey goodness, yet.

Christine essence blushes are .17 ounces for three dollars. Color pop bronzers are .15 ounces for eight dollars. I know the quality is excellent but I think for the Quantity you get these are overpriced. I find colour pop overpriced in general.

Christine Avatar

Sorry, I haven’t tried Essence, so I couldn’t say if they compare. I definitely don’t think ColourPop is overpriced, given that you’re paying $5-8 for their product range when cosmetics go up to $120+ for a quad, though. They’re far more affordable than most drugstore brands where I am as well!

Rachel R. Avatar

It’s good that there are a variety of brands to suit different needs and philosophies on looks…and pricing. I know a lot of people like Essence, but I personally don’t.

I think that while Essence may be less expensive, the quality is lousy. Half of what I spend on Essence powder products is lost due to all the fallout. I haven’t liked anything I’ve tried from them, and I’ve tried several items from different categories. I don’t buy their stuff any more. ColourPop has excellent quality, and IMO aren’t overpriced at all, considering the quality is up there with (sometimes exceeding) mid-range brands.
