Clinique Nestled, Tender, Satin Even Better Lip Colour Foundation Reviews & Swatches
Nestled (14)
Clinique Nestled (14) Even Better Pop Lip Colour Foundation ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium, pinkish-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had barely-there sheen and looked almost semi-matte after an hour of wear. The texture was thinner, not enough to be clingy, but it seemed shorter-wearing as a result as the color wore down within three hours. It had medium pigmentation, which didn’t build up much beyond that.

Formula Overview
$19.50/0.13 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula features three finishes: "Naked," "Casual," and "Glam." Where these finishes get confusing is that the classification moves as skin tone changes, despite the brand describing "Naked" shades as "softest neutral for a barely-there look" and "Casual" as "a wash of neutral color," which kind of sound more or less the same-- wash, barely-there, etc. "Glam" is described as a "bold pop of color," yet there are shades classified as "Glam" for lighter skin tones that are "Casual" for deeper skin tones.
The formula is supposed to be hydrating with color that lasts up to "eight hours," which are the most concrete claims about the product! The original Pop lipstick formula is described as "rich color plus a smoothing primer." Since the Even Better range is all about matching to one's skin tone--which is why one shade is closer to "Naked" for one skin tone and closer to "Glam" for another--I'm using the original Pop formula as the baseline for the claims here. This means I'm looking for "rich color" along with a hydrating formula that lasts "up to eight hours."
The majority of the range had semi-opaque to opaque coverage with a few shades having more medium, buildable coverage. I noticed that there were some shades that were more of a velvety-matte--felt more primer-like, more silicone-heavy--with good glide but less sheen (more in line with the Pop Matte formula), and others were more true to the original Pop formula with a creamier consistency that had some shine.
As you might have already guessed, the formula does not last eight hours and lasted between four and five hours for most shades with a few deviating from that range. There's nothing in the formula that suggests it would be particularly long-wearing, so they were quite comfortable to apply and to wear, wore down evenly, and were hydrating to wear.
They had no discernible scent or taste.

Tender (15)
Clinique Tender (15) Even Better Pop Lip Colour Foundation ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a brighter, medium orange-brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It seemed to have a touch of pearl but was very hard to tell in person. The texture was lightweight, slightly thinner but had enough glide and substance that it didn’t feel clingy. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which applied evenly to my lips. It lasted well for three and a half hours (out of eight promised) and felt lightly hydrating.

Satin (16)
Clinique Satin (16) Even Better Pop Lip Colour Foundation ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, light-medium rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had rich color coverage in a single stroke, which applied comfortably across my lips in a fluid motion and delivered even color that didn’t emphasize my natural lip texture. The lipstick had a lightly creamy consistency that wasn’t too thick or too thin. It stayed on nicely for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while on.

Sorry that these are faring so poorly. And Nestled reminded me of one of my lipstick pet peeves. The color of the bullet bears no resemblance to the actual applied color. It’s somewhat deceptive and thoroughly confusing. That is so aggro that I want to bin it ASAP. Some online improvement, but not so eliminated that you won’t get stung. And if you have multiple colors with the same packaging, it requires good visual memory to remember the true applied color. Avoiding this situation is only improved by Temptalia. Thanks.
i think i will pass on these, not the rating i want in a lipstick. The shades are lovely but not for me.
What a shame that these are so mediocre. With all this talk of makeup companies failing (though a Lauder brand is probably going to be buoyed up), I’ve just been thinking lately about WHY so many companies feel the need to ditch really good products (the original Cheek Pops from Clinique come to mind but they’re hardly the only things….all those beloved BITE lipsticks, UD classics that were great) just to bring out new and inferior products in a quest for “newness” and now “clean/green” which are terms that don’t really mean anything as there are pitifully few standards for what makes “clean”. If UD were to bring back the original Naked, 2 and Smokey, I’d be out the door to repurchase them and the same applies to so many products from so many brands.
This is a really good example of why I don’t own more Clinique lipsticks. They have SO MANY SHADES and that’s freaking awesome when it comes to finding *exactly* your perfect lipstick.
……IF……those popular undertones and colors they base their lipsticks on suit you. Even their more brownie/sandy nudes have just a hair too much pink for me. But if pink was my thing then I’d probably own twenty different clinique lipsticks that no one can visually differentiate but me. You know, like the rest of us and our “perfect nudes” collections. Who *doesn’t* have ten different versions of basically the same shade of lipstick?
That’s a little disappointing to hear. The lipsticks still seem super good and I love the brown-red tones. It’s just that Clinique’s lipsticks have always kicked butt in comparison to other brands I’ve tried. Sigh.
Nestled and Satin look beautiful! But then again, of course I would love those since I have and love MAC Smoked Almond and Spirit. And so I’ve been saved a few dollars!
These lipsticks are eminently wearable, everyday kind of shades, but the ratings are quite poor for Clinique (who usually does them better). I think each of these shades are very similar to each other as well. It’s lucky that I have a perfect dupe for them – Maybelline’s Mauve for Me – which is not only much more inexpensive, but also has a much better rating.
What a pity that these lipsticks performed rather badly. I really like Nestled a lot. I’m going to check the dupes carefully. I also like Satin, I’m glad it is a bit better than the other two, still I do prefer lipsticks that gets an A. (Of course.)
Thanks for saving me some money! Always rooting for Clinique, but the lipstick goes from bad to worse. Sugar Bean was my old favorite!
