Cle de Peau Cosmic Aura (308) Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Clé de Peau Cosmic Aura (308) Eyeshadow Quad
Clé de Peau Cosmic Aura (308) Eyeshadow Quad ($55.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a set of four shades that run cooler-toned with a purple bent. I knew I had to see just how well (or poorly) the brand could do purples, as this is a color range that many brands under-deliver on. Unfortunately, this quad did fall short: two of the purple-hued shades were slightly powdery in texture as well as weaker in pigment. This is a more unique set of shades, relative to Stellar Gaze (307) that I reviewed earlier, though the second shade is one that a few brands do.
Each of the eyeshadow quads is available as a “refill” so it is just the set of eyeshadows, and you can purchase the case (here) for $25, which comes with two dual-ended sponge-tipped applicators. I put all of my eyeshadow quads into a Z-palette (see a photo of it here), but I do have two cases from the two eyeshadow quads I received as samples (I bought the other six quads myself, which is a statement on how enamored I was after trying two), so you’ll see it in the post for those interested in purchasing the two together.
Cosmic Aura #1 is a dark, slightly cool-toned purple with a violet shimmer-sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but it wasn’t fully pigmented, and the texture was slightly powdery. This made it harder to get the same intense color payoff on the lid in practice. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Disney by Sephora Sea Witch (LE) is less shimmery. MAC Warm & Smoky (LE, $15.00) is very similar. MAC Banafsaji (LE, $15.00) is bluer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Cosmic Aura #2 is a dirty, cool-toned beige with hints of green and an iridescent pink-to-green shimmer finish. The duochrome is subtle, though. The texture was slightly powdery, and it had had mostly opaque color coverage. The eyeshadow stayed on well for eight hours before fading. theBalm Sandbar (LE, $16.00) is slightly warmer. Make Up For Ever I542 Pink Ivory (P, $21.00) is warmer. Makeup Geek Rockstar (P, $5.99) is similar. bareMinerals Iridescent Iris (LE, $14.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #940 Star Powder (P, $20.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Cosmic Aura #3 is a muted, medium-dark eggplant purple with subtle, warm brown undertones and gold and plum shimmer. It had fairly good pigmentation, and the texture was soft, buttery, and smooth. The color lasted for eight hours applied to the eye before fading. Ardency Inn Disco (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. Chanel Tisse Camelia #4 (P) is darker. Too Faced Rhinestone (P, $16.00) is similar. Giorgio Armani #16 (P, $32.00) is darker. Too Faced Candied Violet (P, $16.00) is less shimmery. Too Faced Bluff (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more shimmery. Dior Constellation (864) #5 (LE) is warmer. Clinique Lavish Lilac (P, $17.00) is a cream product. Urban Decay Rapture (LE, $18.00) is darker. Urban Decay Rockstar (P, $18.00) is darker. MAC Winterized (LE, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Cosmic Aura #4 is a muted, navy blue with hints of purple and navy micro-shimmer for a satin finish. It had decent color payoff, but I wish it had been as intense as it looked in the pan. theBalm Pipeline (LE, $16.00) is lighter, bluer. Dior Atlantique #3 (LE) is less shimmery. Too Faced De La Mer (P, $16.00) is darker. Givenchy Bleu Soie (4) (P, $23.00) is a cream product. theBalm #5 (P, $6.50) is slightly darker. Chanel Apparition (LE, $36.00) is a cream product. Too Faced Badass (LE, $16.00) is purpler. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #2 (P) is similar. Le Metier de Beaute Sapphire (LE, $30.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Half Truth (LE, $18.00) is slightly purpler. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Hmm, too bad it underperforms a bit.
I agree!
Pretty shades, though.
I like the combination/concept for sure!
Thank you for reviewing this set soon. Though this is a good set, I like the original formula better, the mono shades from long ago.
No prob, Stacey! 🙂
Lovely palette, lovely look!
Thanks, Allison!
I love the colors in this quad and actually wear similar colors at east once a week. Too bad it didn’t get an A grade, because to convince myself to spend at least $55 for a quad it needs to be stellar quality. (It is still very lovely, just that I cannot afford it at the moment.)
For now, I will continue to achieve similar look using cheap drugstore eyeshadows over Maybelline color tattoo in painted purple 🙂
I agree – I think at this price point it has to be perfect for the person buying it!
That’s too bad. The colors swatch pretty, but it’s frustrating if it doesn’t show up as visibly on the lid.
Exactly!
I’ve been seeing these Cle de Peau reviews and I’m really tempted to get some. It looks so luxurious!! Thanks for being honest about them!
They can be quite nice!
I love this brand but it’s sooooooo out of my college student budget 🙁 Just admiring from afar for now
Totally understand, Kimberly! 🙂 Not something that was on my radar in college, either! I think my very first major splurge was a Cle de Peau gloss.
The colors are beautiful but I think it could have performed better for the price
Agreed!
Well, isn’t this just a gorgeous colour shceme? I think that last lavendered grey, heathery colour is my favourite! I like how it’s all refillable in various ways too.
I love the color combo, too!
These colours are beautiful, I really love the packaging of the Cle de Peau palette and how tiny they are!
Glad you liked it!
I may need better performing dupes in all 4 shades.
I hope you can find ’em!
Beautiful shades, but without matte crease and brow colors, who over 35 can wear this except at night? Dior does the same thing. I really don’t get it.
There are many readers over the age of 35 who regularly wear shimmery shades all-over 🙂 It just depends on your personal preference, so if you’re looking for more matte finishes, the Cle de Peau quads are probably not going to work well for you!
For the purple fans I think they would love the colours – too bad it is not as good as it looks in terms of performance.
I wish it was a bit better!
I love each shade individually, but for some reason, I don’t like them together…
That’s too bad!
Beautiful!
The color combo works well!
What a fabulous quad!! I’m dying for the purples in here!
Glad ya liked it, Stephanie!
I’m still waiting for a “must have” from this brand and it hasn’t happened yet. I really like Cosmic Aura #3, but I have Bluff by Too Faced and that’s a really good dupe.
You are lucky not to be so tempted as I!
Ooooo, #2 is gorgeous! <3
Agreed!
Oh, the troublesome purples! Such a pity these underperformed, as the colours are so pretty. This one is not going to my list, but thanks for reviewing the palette.
A quick question, Cosmic Aura #1 is a dark, slightly cool-toned purple with a violent shimmer-sheen. Violent? I really expected a firework 🙂
If it’s a typo, don’t say that you’re silly, you are anything but! You should see my typos, and I suspect you and anyone who’s read my posts, have.
Fixed! Thank you!
It was fun, though!
Dude. You bought SIX of these?! That’s dedication!
I loved the colour combination of Stellar Gaze, but this one is absolutely breathtaking, too — and much more wearable for my skintone. (It’s also like, way, way out of my budget, but…. a girl can dream? I think I might check out some of your dupes for the second shade, or try to find a similar one in my stash at the very least!)
Well, I was really impressed by the first two I tried, LOL!
The colors in this quad are a bit too muted for my liking. I prefer more punchy shades (muted colors don’t show up well on me!)
Gotcha! 🙂
