Cle de Peau Calliope (T4) Extra Rich Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Cle de Peau Calliope (T4) Extra Rich Lipstick
Cle de Peau Extra Rich Lipstick: Calliope
Cle de Peau Calliope (T4) Extra Rich Lipstick ($60.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a peach nude with a creamy finish and soft champagne micro-shimmer. The finish has a slightly glossy look but not too much shine. Extra Rich Lipsticks have a faceted lipstick, with more defined edges, which does allow for crisper lines. This is a suitable nude for warmer skin tones, especially for those who find that nudes too often wash them out.
my thoughts on the formula: The color applies opaque in a single pass with a smooth, even finish. Extra Rich Lipsticks are absolutely a luxury item; they are pure decadence. The texture is incredibly smooth and creamy without being slippery or heavy. It imparts a nice level of moisture on lips and never feels drying. The formula also de-emphasizes lip lines after about fifteen minutes of wear. I get between four and six hours of wear.

final thoughts: Cle de Peau is absolutely a luxury brand, and it is most certainly not masquerading as anything else. This is a brand and product that will not appeal to everyone and isn’t meant to, which I think is important to remember. If budget isn’t a concern, I have always really enjoyed Cle de Peau’s formulas and shade range. It is better to invest in a color you will wear everyday with joy than two shades that you are only so-so.

This brand and lipstick looks beautiful, and maybe when I’m rich later in life I’ll remember to pick up some of them! 🙂
Looks gorgeous on you christine! and i love the shape of the lipstick itself..so unique
Nice color ! I lovve it <33
I already pay around 60$ for Rouge G de guerlain ( in Dubai)
😀 So u can only imagine how much I'm gonna have to pay on this one lol
Watching this is a heart-broken moment…
Why? Because I broke mine accidentally last week! Such a nightmare!
Yes, I can still use it with lip brush, but I can never use it FROM TUBE anymore! So shameful! Since its shape is created for the use-from-tube…
*sob*
Did you break it from the base? If so, try taking a lighter or hair dryer to the end for a few seconds (just enough to get the end melt-y), and then smoosh it back in!!
That’s a good idea, thank you! 😀
I thought I would warm it with microwave but realized that the result may turn out bad…
I will try your advice! Thank you again you are a goddess <3
Yup – you just want the bottom to be melt-y, so I’d avoid the microwave!
would you say mac freckletone was a dupe?
It is lighter.
this shade is to die for! have you tried buxom big and healthy lip stick in nantucket? It’s one of the new shades. wonder how close they are.
I haven’t – sorry!
I love Cle de Peau…especially the single eyeshadows which you can mix and match into a customize case…which they no longer sell. But I can buy several lipsticks for this price…even two Dolce N Gabanna lipsticks.
I think this is a great brand.
I like the scale you use; if I buy a 15 dollar lipstick but only wear it once, it’s 15/wear. But if I buy a $60 lipstick and wear it 30 days, it’s .5/wear. That said, the colors I’ve seen aren’t ultimately that unique so I don’t know if I’d be so willing to buy it. But it looks truly beautiful regardless.
Had purchased this last month in SG, together w/ T2 Just Joey, as I love to collect nude/beiges lipsticks. Such a lovely peachy nude shade. Too bad it’s really expensive.
I love how you always post dupes for products!
I own this lippie and love it. The price is absolutely ridiculous but I had to own just one Cle de Peau and this is just a pretty shade.
Is there a purpose in the shape of the lipstick? Does it aid in application? It’s very pretty.
It’s supposed to, with the sharper edge.
Four to six hours of wear is amaaaazing! It looks great on you, by the way!
I saw the name, and I knew I had to have it. Then I saw what color it was. I’m too pink for it. 🙁
That’s a pretty nude!
I finally ordered the Cle de peau extra rich lipstick in R2 along with some other things from neiman marcus…but it has been over three weeks and my package still isn’t here. :/ The people at customer service say it’s normal…I’m sending my stuff back when it gets here to prove a point but I’ll be awful sad about not getting to try that lipstick! It truly looks perfect from your swatches!
Pretty. I’d wear it. I dunno if they have Cle de Peau in the UK.
i love lipsticks of that color , i want cle de peau so bad but $60 ?!?!?!?!?!?! we’ll see …
quality yes, but disappearing lips isn’t a look I love :-/
wow ! $60?? that is insane for lipstick. I guess if you have money to blow and don’t have things to buy this would be a fun purchase. The lipstick shape is so nice and appealing. There is this Japanese brand of lipstick called canmake makes lipstick that has this shape.
Hello I have this lipstick as well can make and the shade is the same, the texture is food as well and very cheap!
your face is flawless…what do you do?
I just moisturize, tone, cleanse – nothing special 🙂
Beautiful color, but not worth $60 IMO
haha Viva Glam Gaga 2 anyone?
Very different if you compare the two, actually… this is so much darker.
7/10 for value??
I compare luxury brands to other luxury brands.
This brand has nice colours and the texture seems to great either! But the price might discourage a lot of people! Way too expensive! I prefer keeping my money for creams … But hehehee wouldn’t mind if someone would offer this to me…
Just when I thought it can’t get more ridiculous than Guerlain’s Rouge G at $47 🙂
Oh well, it’s just like you said, it’s a luxury brand and they’re not trying to sugarcoat it in any way. It’s not about the amazing qualities of the item anymore, but about your status.
It’s a pretty colour, though; it suits you! I’m sure there are plenty of dupes out there, though.
I want it just because of the shape! Not this color, obviously, but something else from this brand. I won’t actually ever buy one because I’m unemployed and my money doesn’t need to go toward a $60 lipstick, but I can dream lol.
the color looks very blah and the price makes it a no-brainer to not purchase. I find these prices ridiculous, Christine. How many of us can either afford it or would want to spend that amount for a lipstick? Let’s be real here.
If it’s not in your price range, you don’t have to buy it, or even read this post. Even if you are not interested, it does not mean others are not. I’m happy to help one reader as I am thousands. I have paid myself, and I have no problem doing it again, but, however, I’m not forcing you to buy it 🙂 Luckily, I have had many nice notes from readers thanking me for luxury product reviews because they haven’t found reviews/swatches elsewhere, and so I know that it’s well worth sharing.
Maybe instead of criticizing and judging, you could share dupes, or perhaps, if it was a shade to your liking, inspire you to find one that is more to your price range.
Christine, I’m glad you’re able to do that! I’m surprised but shouldn’t be that people are spending those prices. It’s great that you are offering because I can see where there aren’t a lot of swatches in that range. It’s also nice that you’re accomodating the NYX which is more my price range (even though it’s not very accessible to me). Do you think you might do some lipsticks or glosses from thebalm or other brands in about that range (12-25ish)?
I seem to tend towards Revlon (but mostly shades I’ve bought for 2 decades!), Estee Lauder, Buxom and Korres. I’d love anyall reviews for them, thebalm, bobbi brown (thank you for excellent useful reviews of those!), UD, etc..
I’d also love more berry, ruby, rosey-nude, & crimson reds.
Not to say do those things but those are specific things I’m usually looking for & especially appreciate in your reviews.
And I love when you review Chantequaille even if I’ll never buy any just because it’s so pretty.
Maybe if you tried to do a percent of each week or month’s reviews from low-mid-high price ranges it would let reader’s know what to expect? Or added a sort function by low-mid-high-omg. 🙂
I’ve done many, many reviews for Smashbox, Urban Decay, Korres, etc. in the past – not sure if you have seen them in the archives. If/when it makes sense or I have shades to review, I will certainly be sure to do so in the future as well. I’m definitely not deliberately NOT reviewing any of those shades – if I have reviewed it in the past, I’m likely to review it in the future. 🙂 I do not have any lip products form theBalm or Bare Escentuals at this time – sorry!!
I already plan my calendar to ensure that I cover different price points and brands, actually. I guess I need to do a better job of it, though 🙁
I have been reading the past reviews, for some reason I’m seeing reviews that didn’t pop up before or that seem missing that I thought I’d seen before so there may be some site organization stuff.
I think it’s more likely you tend to group like things vs spread them out which can cause the site to seem to shift considerably in content type from one visit to another. It may also be perception which can vary considerably so possibly you might find a bit of market research helpful such as what people consider low med and high price ranges for an item, what range most readers are shopping in, what color families and product types they purchase & frequency. That sort of stuff. Not that you have to but it might be useful for you when you make your schedules, ongoing site structure, how content changes impact readership viewing and buying, more info for your advertisers.
Nothing to worry about now but things you might want to do when school’s over & you have full time to operate Temptalia. Like maybe in future you’ll have a chance to occasionally have a vote on which of 3 brands or items or colors for you to review & see what people pick. (this is called letting the readers pretend we’re helping mom in the kitchen while we scatter flour all over the freshly washed floor– you could call it wreck…oops! I totally mean REC a brand) 😉
I think you did very great job on reviewing those luxury products, at least we can see the swatches (and the price, before asking the SA, and the SA could made you disappointed with their attitudes)
and I can search the dupes (which is cheaper or another good pigmented stuff, around MUFE, NYX, or Revlon), especially dupes for MAC (since I HATE INDONESIAN MAC’s SA)
And now, I want a Cle de Peau Calliope lipstick! Don’t let people upset you Christine. I appreciate your reviews of luxury brand products, because sometimes I deserve to splurge on myself, and it’s better to be informed.
This colour looks REALLY pretty on you, Christine! :3
Cle de Peau is one of many shiseido brands. Cle de Peau being the most expensive :/
I’ve played with testers @ YOUME TOWNs in Japan and honestly i dont this brand of shiseido is worth the $$$$ since shisiedo has many brands that are reasonbly priced and they all are around the same quality.
Its pretty much the same for all the Kanebo brands and Kanebo Sensai sold @ Neiman Marcus :/
I’m always interested to find new Makeup luxury line. I purchase recently my first product from Cle de peau
Extra silk lipstick in 104 and really like it even if I should have purchase a lipstick first as i prefer an opaque lipstick! i’m curious to try other item from that line (mostly lipsticks and eyeshadows) I already have Guerlinade and several Rouge G lipstick (i’m a Guerlain whore!!!) How would you compare the CdP formula vs Rouge G… is it worth the price deference?
Thanks 🙂
Extra Silky is totally different from Rouge G, but their Extra Rich and regular line are very comparable 🙂 Both seem to help de-emphasize natural lip lines, more so than Guerlain. I don’t really feel/see a difference between Extra Rich and their regular line, though.
I got a similar slightly lighter look from:
Nars Belle De Jour
topped with Dior Addict lip polish 001
I ended up buying this and I’m SO glad I did. I absolutely adore the color on me. It is my perfect “nude”. Love pairing this with a smoky eye. The formula is incredibly creamy and I can certainly tell the difference between this and a mid-price line. It is expensive, but the quality is fantastic. THANK YOU so much for reviewing this line.
Christine,
Thank you for your review and your website. I used it to research a lot of lipstick brands when I decided to switch from my usual colors and brands. It really helped me do all my research before I hit the cosmetics counter.
I almost always wear only nude lipsticks, but not too pale.
Based on your review, I was inspired to look for this brand of lipstick. Although I have never spent that
much on a lipstick, I did get one, as I have very sensitive skin. It does not irritate my skin. I can also wear
it without a base. I can wear it on days when my skin is very sensitive.
I got the color T3 and as a gift, received T5. Both are a little too pale. The lipliner was very expensive and did not match, so I did not get it.
A brand that is also moisturizing and non-irritating and costs only about $10 is Boots. Available from Target, in a lot of nudes as well as stylish colors.
I have used the Dior sticks, which are moisturizing and good for sensitive skin.
However, the color range is not
good for warm skin tones. They had no browns or neutrals. There is not much product in the heavy tube, and it did not stay on well.
I also got an Armani, which wears well and is moisturizing and non-irritating. The color range is vibrant and fashionable, rather than nude. So I only got one to wear with a bright color outfit. I enjoy it, a color is fun
now and then.
Origins is a good, non-irritating brand. Could not find my favorite color, it has been discontinued.
Bobbi Brown has the best range of nude colors but is too drying in winter for daily wear. Clinique has fairly good colors in the nude range but is slightly irritating for every day. Their primers and bases are good for touchy skin.
Thanks so much for sharing your finds, Joanne!
