Cle de Peau Satin Eye Color ($45.00 for 0.07 oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing eyeshadow with “brilliant, sumptuous color” that yields a smooth application. Earlier this year, there were three new and limited shades released, and I tested two of them. For incredibly finely-milled, velvety textures, Cle de Peau knocks these out of the park. I was able to use these both wet and dry, though the results did not drastically differ between the two. Both shades wore well without creasing over an eight-hour period, but I saw some light fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

#119 Satin Eye Color ($45.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “shimmering pearlescence [that] creates a dewy, luminous glow.” It’s a pale, light golden beige with a soft, frosted finish and pale gold sparkle. It had semi-opaque color coverage–noticeably color but not intensely pigmented. It worked well as a highlighter or an all-over shade to brighten lids. I can see that some readers may prefer the lit-from-within quality of the color and finish, which may be more important than the pigmentation. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #2 (LE) is lighter. NARS Jezebel (P) is almost peachy in comparison. Kat Von D Galore (LE) is more frosted, lighter. Disney by Sephora Scuttle (LE) is similar. MAC Femme-Fi (LE, $15.00) is also similar. L’Oreal Iced Latte (P, $7.99) is not as warm-toned. See comparison swatches.

#121 Satin Eye Color ($45.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “deeply rich luster [that] creates a discerning elegance.” It’s a warm-toned, coppery brown with a soft, pearly sheen. It had good color applied wet or dry, though th elatter application gave it a more intense, smoother result. Makeup Geek Vegas Lights (P, $6.99) is more frosted but very similar in color. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #9 (P, $9.99) is a smidgen warmer/brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #4 (P) is more frosted. Guerlain Cuivre Ora (LE, $35.00) is also a bit more frosted. NARS California (P, $24.00) is redder. MAC Star Myth (LE, $15.00) is a touch redder. MAC Brash (LE, $15.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches.

I bought 121 a while ago at a counter after a bad day, mostly because of the packaging, which I LOVE. (It’s very plastic-y feeling, actually, but it LOOKS beautiful.) Anyway, despite the price, it ended up being worth it because I didn’t own any shadow that warm, and because somehow, despite being so cool-toned, I can actually pull it off!

I’d never thought to use it wet. Does it dry well, or do you reserve one side for wet application and the other side for dry?
