Clarins Eyeshadow Quads - Swatches
Last fall, Clarins Eyeshadow Quads ($43.00 for 0.10 oz.) got a makeover with an updated formula. I was intrigued because they didn’t have the typical matte beige brow bone shade that often makes a quad (or palette) less usable across skin tones. They also looked like more satin-to-pearl in finish rather than intense metallics, which is just a nice counterpoint to what we see from other brands. Here are swatches!
Out of all the ones that I might not be able to dupe to the gills, I am looking at Rosewood and Jade. Even then, I will probably have some overlap.
Jade looks beautiful! I never remember that Clarins has a makeup line. I only know them for their skincare plus their Instant Light Lip Perfectors and Lip Oils.
They’ve had some great makeup products in past (sadly, some of their BEST stuff, like their Rouge Prodige lipsticks and glosses, were discontinued and a lot of other great stuff was LE). They’re not known for flashy or cutting edge makeup – their target audience seems to be people looking for more subdued looks. Mind you, they’ve not got rid of some of their greatest skin care stuff too and replaced them with products that also seem geared to a younger demographic (but I think their more “boring” image will be hard to break through to that demographic).
Nothing POPS for me, boring 😐
Ditto! I really can’t see why you make these except for older customers from back in the day who only use compact quads. But then, for those who want simple, small, this is probably great for them. Note, I’m soon reaching older lady stage, but due to our generations’ expose, I’ll probably still want a 5+ minimum palette. Ha!
So tired of the red or pink or Orange browns. They have been soon to death and they make me look like I have pink eye!
Flame, Rosewood and Fairy Tale all look awfully similar (the same was true of some of their blush releases – all similar and all too warm for me). Clarins has had some really good eyeshadow palettes in past (I’ve lucked out with 3 or 4 of them, some LE) but they’re not really known for their makeup, which is kind of a shame because in past, they’ve had some good stuff.
I like these! They look to be reasonably pigmented for a soft and subtle result. My favourites are Jade, Midnight and Brown Sugar. Thank you for reviewing this brand Christine, Clarins has in the past produced some really nice eyeshadow products, which you have reviewed. Nothing earth shattering, but quite conservative.
I love the compact size of these and the Jade looks beautiful.
Jade has caught my eye at Shoppers Drug Mart but, tempting as it is, I can probably dupe it fairly well (or if not, I’ll wait til a Thursday so I can get 20% off, assuming it passes the “Temptalia Test”. I also like the look of #1 and 2 in the Midnight quad.
Oh, these are cute, especially Jade! Circle quads remind me of my middle school makeup, though, so they always hit me with nostalgia. I’m glad there’s no beige color, too. It’s good for my skin tone, but it usually just takes space away from a better color, like the silvery blue in Midnight.
I’m not down for these, but Jade would be my pick if I actually wore green eyeshadow. Lol.
I forget Clarins does cosmetics, except I recently came across and do want to try one of their lip oils in the intense version.
Nothing here jumps out at me but Fairy Tale does have a very CT Pillowtalk quad feel to it, which I have and never use.
Easy pass for me.
No surprise, of course I liked the green and blue ones the most! But for $43 and only 4 little shades, they’d have to be pretty special. I know Clarins is a higher end brand, but I’ve only ever tried their skincare, so I’m not as familiar with their color cosmetics.
