China Glaze Wizard of Ohh Ahz Collection Photos, Swatches, Reviews

China Glaze Ruby Pumps Nail Lacquer

China Glaze Wizard of Ohh Ahz Collection

China Glaze Wizard of Ohh Ahz Collection debuts this November, for the holiday season. The collection consists of six shades: Ruby Pumps (an all time red glitter favorite), The Ten Man (silver frost with specks of micro silver glitter), Cowardly Lyin’ (gold frost with specks of gold micro glitter), Good Witch (pink frost with specks of pink micro glitter), C-C-Courage (purple frost with specks of purple micro glitter), and Dorothy Who? (blue polish with massive amounts of silver and blue glitter).

It’s a re-release of a collection by the same name from 2001. I never owned the original set, so I couldn’t tell you if there’s any variance between the two. The materials I received said it was “very similar to the original version that was released in 2001,” so I imagine they may have revamped or improved their formula in the past eight years and that’s why they’re not identical.

  • Ruby Pumps is a gorgeous shade of ruby red with lots of deeper red shimmer particles laced throughout. It’s a shade that catches light well and just sparkles. Ruby Pumps has always been one of my favorite shades by China Glaze; it’s also included in the Love You Snow Much set for holiday. This applies opaquely with two medium-thick coats and goes on smoothly.
  • The Ten Man is a semi-sheer slightly silvered clear base with silver sparkle. I found this one was hard to make opaque, even with three medium-thick coats. The shimmer didn’t seem to apply as uniformly as the other five in this launch, but I like the shade itself. I’d probably wait longer between coats and do thicker coats as well, perhaps even use a silver or grayish base for a more opaque look.
  • Cowardly Lyin’ is a bright, yellow-based metallic gold base with gold shimmer. Like The Ten Man, I found this one was harder to get to be completely opaque (you can see the tip of my nail). It’s more opaque than The Ten Man, but I’d, personally, prefer a more opaque base. I really like the color, though – it’s a very true gold; it reminds me of lions, for sure, and it’s perfect for the holidays.
  • Good Witch is a slightly cool paled down rosy pink with pink sparkle. The pink sparkle in this one seemed a little chunkier than some of the others, which isn’t a problem for me, but just something I noted. This one went opaque in three medium-thick coats.
  • C-C-Courage is a deep, rich purple with a cool undertone. It’s a dark purple base with lighter icy purple and silver sparkle. This one only needed two medium-thick coats to look opaque (even one gets you close).
  • Dorothy Who? is an oceanic blue with lighter and deeper blue sparkle. I actually thought this one was particularly stunning in person! I wasn’t so sure at first, when I saw the bottle, but it really is lovely. It sparkles quite nicely when the light hits it. It takes at least three medium-thick coats to get an opaque look, perhaps even three thicker coats.

Overall, I really liked the formula, texture, and look of the shades included in this collection. I absolutely loved Ruby Pumps, Cowardly Lyin’, and Dorothy Who? — those would be my top three picks out of the six. While I normally love, love China Glaze and its formula, I do feel that a lot of these run on the sheerer side.  Ruby Pumps and C-C-Courage are the biggest exceptions to this, as they meet my expectations from China Glaze!

I have to say this, though: why is there no Emerald City? I know China Glaze has Emerald Sparkle, which would have certainly been fitting to this launch. I don’t know; I really expected to see a green in a collection about the Wizard of Oz, you know? Kind of left me hanging in that respect.

You could always just buy emerald sparkle on it’s own! 🙂 That’s just what I was told, about them not having emerald sparkle in this collection. 🙂

My favourites are Ruby Pumps, C-C Courage and Dorothy Who?. I always thought Ruby Pumps polish is stunning. I agree that this collection needs a green like Emerald Sparkle in it.

I love “Dorothy Who?” and “Ruby Pumps”! My mom has loved China Glaze for years, so I grew up always borrowing hers. That’s one of the things that I miss most about living away from home – being able to dig into my mom’s stash! I will definitely be checking these out, especially since Ruby Pumps will be gorgeous for the holidays.

C-C-Courage looks gorgeous — but then again, I’m a sucker for a good violet =P I totally think there should have been something Emerald, too! It’s like opening up a ten-pack of something and realizing there’s only nine items. You can’t have the Wizard of Oz without some emerald!

Im so diggin Ruby pumps, Cowardly Lyin’, Good Witch and C-C-Courage. Might do a China Glaze haul after thanks giving with my coupon that I got from Sally’s!

After reading this post today I went out to my local beauty supplu store and bought Ruby Pumps and I gather it’s a hot seller for the season so I bought it right away…I’m gonna try it next time I do my nails before the season just to make sure it’s something i don’t mind for Xmas:) Of course all the colours look good on you Christine!!

For sure. I think I have about ten bottles of China Glaze nail polish, which doesn’t really sound like a lot, but I only had one bottle about a month ago…
I agree with everyone that’s been saying that Emerald Sparkle should have been in this collection. It would have rounded it off nicely. It’s actually one of the four bottles of nail polish that I recently bought, and it’s on my nails right now. So pretty.

OMG thank you Christine!!!! 🙂 I’m rekindling my love of polish 🙂 I am so loving this collection, especially the Good Witch 🙂

I have problems finding stores that carry more than 5-10 China Glaze products in Canada (well the ‘burbs near Toronto). Does anybody know where I can find CG line???

Christine Avatar

It’s doing the same for me, Cherie! I used to review more polish, particularly China Glaze when I was getting into polish at first, but then it just dwindled for me. All the pretty new shades are bringing me back little by little 🙂

I’m not sure about in-store, but I do know Transdesign.com sells internationally. I think the shipping is supposed to be reasonable!

Cherie Avatar

hehehe, I love that there are others like me out there 🙂 And I totally would have loved a green in this collection!

I will definately check out this site. Thanks for the tip!!!

Cherie, if you’re anywhere near Markham/Richmond Hill area, I just recently discovered that we have TWO Sally’s Beauty Supplies here! And they have the largest selection of China Glaze that I’ve seen here in Canada (well… in the GTA~). Go to Sally’s website and look for their specific locations!

I really wanna get Ruby Pumps, The Ten Man, C-C-Courage, and Dorothy Who? along with Emerald Sparkle and 5 Golden Rings. I’m hoping to see more China Glaze swatches, especially more of the new collection with all of the really glittery polishes. I already know that I want Atlantis and Preppy Pink from that.

Oh man what I’d do to own Ruby Pumps. It’s so hard to find China Glaze here in Lebanon & my parents won’t let me buy it online lol. Once I did find a couple bottles of it in this little make up shop and after having a mini heart attack, I bought them all! Best nailpolishes ever. Thanks for the swatches! I think my faves for now are Ruby Pumps and The Ten Man!

Whats the deal with no scarecrow nail polish? perhaps instead of 2 for the lion the cowardly lyin could have been straw something.
I too expected to see a green either tied in with the Wicked Witch or Emerald City so bit bummed those 2 got left out.
Ordered the other colours online so cant wait to get them they look gorgeous
