China Glaze Holiday 2010: Part 2

The next six shades consist of all shimmers with the exception of Show, which is a cream. I had the same experience formula-wise as I did with the first six; easy, even application. Most shades were two coats, though I did three for Snow and Frosty.   The consistency of these shades was on the thinner side, but it wasn’t watery or sheer. Each China Glaze retails for $3 to 4, depending on where you purchase yours from. I know the brand is carried at various etailers as well as Sally’s (not sure if it’s in store yet, though).

  • Jolly Holly is a darkened emerald green with lighter green shimmer. It’s a little warmer with finer shimmer than China Glaze’s Emerald Sparkle. Jolly Holly feels less emerald in comparison. Two coats.
  • Peace on Earth is a medium olive green with an almost chartreuse tone. It’s similar to NARS’ Mash, which has a little more olive in its base. Two coats.
  • Jingle Bells is a light champagne gold with golden microshimmer. This looks really lovely on, and the application is absolutely flawless. It reminded me of a less yellow/gold version of Chanel Gold Lame (which has a metallic finish, so they’re a bit different). Two coats.
  • Snow is a stark white cream. It was surprisingly easy to apply, though I needed three coats to even out a little streakiness I had towards the bottom of the nail (which was more owed to impatience during application). It’s like White Out for your nails but you know, looks better, applies better, and lasts longer. It does seem to have a blue-base to it. It’s a brighter version of MAC Vestral White (which is harder to apply). Three coats but it was opaque in two.
  • Frosty is a semi-sheer white base with silvery-white shimmer. There’s something about this that reminds me of wedding dresses. It almost has a purplish iridescent sheen. I don’t own many white-based polishes, so I don’t have any dupes for this one. Three coats.
  • Cheers to You is a silver foil. It just says shimmer, but it looks like a foil/mtallic, because of the high sheen and finish. Duri’s Celebrity Scandal and SpaRitual’s Looking Glass are both similar. Two coats.

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: Snow may not be a shade that’s easy to wear on its own, but it could be used to layer underneath other polishes or glitters. If NARS’ Mash seems too expensive for you, Peace on Earth is a nice affordable option.

I keep trying to tell myself I can just grab any old white from the drugstore, but I really want Snow. Maybe it’s the collector in me going, “It’s Limited Edition! And has a nice name! And you know China Glaze polishes are fabulous! You know you waaant it!” Yeah, that’s probably it. That, and a very strong desire to layer it under Party Hearty.
Jolly Holly is also really pretty, but I’m still sort of scared of shimmer finishes (I don’t like the way many shimmers get those…lines in them? I seriously think it would bother me on my nails).

leesie Avatar

Yeah! I’m really particular about brush strokes–even faint ones are liable to bother me. I’ll probably give them a chance once I’ve satisfied my craving for creams, but for now, I think I’ll start with Little Drummer Boy and see how that goes.

I have to aggree that Snow is the nicest looking white I’ve seen. Cheers to You looks tempting since sliver polishes then to be darker as well in other brands, it hard to find a bright sterling silver finish.

Linnea Avatar

These look really fabulous. I want Jolly Holly, Jingle Bells and ONE of the white based ones..

I find peace on earth a little to lime greeny.. I don’t know if I’m the only person that see’s that shade..

Sarah Avatar

Definately getting Snow and cheers to you. None of my other white nailpolishes are opaque even in three coats and im too lazy to go for four and too cheap to get underware from rescue beauty lounge

Dana Avatar

Snow is calling me too for some reason lol. I’m also eying Frosty. And Jingle Bells looks like an easy to wear gold, which sometimes looks weird with my skintone. Overall this is a nice, well rounded collection, will definitely check it out in-store. Thanks for the review and swatches 🙂

you weren’t kidding about snow looking like white out! my retinas hurt from the last three shades haha. will definitely buy peace on earth. its the olive shade i’ve always dreamed of.like olive and chartreuse had a baby.

May I please have some recs, Christine? I’m looking for something in a good formula that’s sort of a medium darkish red that shines fiery red. Or a medium dark red that has a sort of glow to it. Would you have any examples of something like that?

Stephanie Avatar

I just placed an order for quite a few items on the 8ty8beauty website and I’m a bit nervous because they don’t tell you how much shipping costs, just that it’s 7.00 USD and up

Stephanie Briones Avatar

Shipping was 13.00 USD for my 12 items. I feel this is steep! I don’t know. I think I would order again anyway, I hope they are very carefully packed to ensure they are in perfect condition when they arrive! That may justify the price. More than 25% of the total cost of my order was shipping charges.

kristi Avatar

i went to three different stores today looking for snow and frosty and none of the stores had either of them! they had everything else tho! anyone else have this problem??

Alison Avatar

Its hard to find most good nail polish brands in Australia, and its pretty useless looking for specific shades so I’m going straight online for mine! Mbeautylounge looks the best. 🙂

Major Christmas explosion! Some of these shades are so definitely Christmassy there’s just no mistake. Great choice of color selection in my opinion!
