Charlotte Tilbury The Rock Chick Eyeshadow Quad ($52.00 for 0.18 oz.) includes four shades that range from beige to taupe to dark brown. Overall, it’s a decent to good set of shades, and I think it hinges on how much you love (or loathe) glitter, because the glittery shade does have fall out issues throughout wear. It’s pretty, but you will find glittery bits all over the face by the end of the day. The darker brown shade is buildable, but it could have been more pigmented. All four shades were easy to blend and apply to the lid, and they worked well together.

This brand has been available (along with this particular quad) for awhile in the UK, and I bought this from Selfridges, but it will be available stateside at Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Beautylish, NET-A-PORTER today, September 2nd.

The Rock Chick #1 is a light, gray-ish beige with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff that had a soft, buttery texture that was easy to apply and blend on the skin. The color lasted for nine hours before fading slightly. bareMinerals Air (P) is cooler-toned. LORAC Chrome (P) is darker. Clarins The Essentials #5 (LE) is darker. L’Oreal Iced Latte (P, $7.99) is warmer. Giorgio Armani Terra Sienna #2 (P) is darker. Dior Fairy Golds #1 (LE) is cooler-toned. Benefit RSVP (P, $10.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Rock Chick #2 is a medium-dark, warm-toned taupe brown with a pearly sheen. It had excellent pigmentation and a soft, finely-milled consistency that worked well on the skin. I didn’t see any fading until after nine hours of wear. Tarte Cashmere Scarf (LE) is darker, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #4 (LE) is darker, warmer, Make Up For Ever I550 Olive Gray (P, $21.00) is lighter. Chanel Tisse Rivoli #1 (P) is a touch darker. YSL Saharienne #4 (P) is warmer. LORAC Chrome (P) is a little lighter. Dior Pastel Fontanges #4 (LE) is less shimmery. Wet ‘n’ Wild Naked Truth #4 (P, $2.29) is warmer. MAC Silver Dawn (LE, $19.50) is warmer. Bobbi Brown Smokey Grey (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned. bareMinerals Cheers (V2) (LE) is similar. Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo (P, $18.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Rock Chick #3 is a glittering, warm-toned taupe with larger sparkle. The consistency had a slicker, almost wet-like, feel to it, while it was thinner yet still quite pigmented. Applied, the color itself wore well for eight and a half hours, but there was a moderate amount of fall out over time. bareMinerals Cheers (V2) (LE) is less glittery. Urban Decay Vaporize (LE, $18.00) is warmer. Urban Decay Derailed (LE, $18.00) is less glittery. Stila Substance (P)is less glittery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Rock Chick #4 is a dark brown with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had decent color payoff, and the texture was soft, silky, but a smidgen powdery. It builds and layers well, but it’s not as pigmented as the other shades. Applied, the color lasted for eight hours before fading. Tarte Don’t Turn A-Brown (LE) is similar. Tarte Dream in Chocolate (LE) is darker. Laura Mercier Espresso (LE, $23.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty She Wolf #1 (LE) is similar. bareMinerals Boardroom (LE) is similar. theBalm Matt Ramirez (LE, $16.00) is warmer. MAC Dance in the Dark (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Diamond Dove (LE, $15.00) is warmer. bareMinerals Foreshadow (P) is similar. Inglot #329 (P, $6.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I really like this quad and don’t mind glitter but I can’t stand fall out. I know you review products on their own merit, but is there a setting product you’ve tried that could help prevent that?

So beautiful and so wantable (which might explain why, once again, I have dupes for all 4 shades – this is my problem to a “T” – I keep buying the same sorts of colours over and over again because they are the shades I love so much and use so often but it’s getting a bit ridiculous… but that doesn’t keep me from wanting this beauty!) I’m glad the shades are so easily duped, to be honest.

Hey, you’re not helping me trying to resist this, ya’know! but if I do end up procuring this somehow, I will know whom to blame!!!! It actually reminds me a lot of Clarins Forest and Guerlain Les Fumes…if eyeshadow quads could have a baby, THIS might be it!

Something I’m noticing with her quads is that the color combinations really appeal to me. It’s beautiful. I probably won’t pick it up because luxury price point makeup is just not in my budget at this time. It’s nice to know that it is available if that ever changes though!

Lovely. So glad you’re reviewing these. I’m skipping the line so It’s nice to get to see them anyway.
I fell hard for the Chanel Quads, Tom Ford Fall and Nars Audacious lipsticks. No room in my budget for more high end cosmetics (but thanks for helping me decide what to try….I bought all after seeing your reviews…which is a mixed thanks I suppose).
Lot’s of lovely releases…but why do so many want to release at the “luxury” price point? It seems to me that this price point is pretty saturated. MAC, UD and the like do so well by being a more affordable price option…with some very lovely items.

I have this palette and yes the glitter is insane with the fallout. It doesn’t adhere very well to my NARS eye base so I have to strategically apply a light touch of Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue. And if I used a MAC Paint Pot my lids were creased after 4 hours of wear. Its still a worthy buy in my opinion.

I have this quad and the glitter shade is a different consistency to the other shades and is designed to be applied with fingers rather than brushes. I apply it with fingers, patted onto the middle of the eyelid and haven’t had any fall out issues with it.

Wow… Someone *finally* did a cooler-toned neutral palette, without tossing in some random gold/bronze shade! The last time I saw that happen was in a Revlon quad some 15-20 years ago (although I am sure it has happened since, and I missed it). I may have to pick this up for that reason alone, although I can likely dupe all of these shades… It’s just nice to have them all in one quad.

My first thought when I saw this was, “This would look so nice on mom!” (Just ’cause I’m on a buying freeze doesn’t mean I can’t buy makeup for other people *cough*) But she doesn’t use any sort of primer/base so the fallout might drive her batty. Maybe this just means I should look for a cheaper palette, lol.

Hi Christine, thank you so much for this review. Do you think Nars smudgeproof is enough to avoid fall out for this palette? I don’t usually experiment any fall out even with shades most people see as glitter waterfalls. 🙂

Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow quads are so gorgeous and I was ready to place an order until I read the ingredients description. Unlike Tom Ford eyeshadow quads formulated without parabens, These quads are full of parabens. Charlotte Tilbury has been collaborating with Tom Ford for his makeup line, I wonder why she did not exclude these chemicals out of her products. Just too bad, the colors are so beautiful though and they look very lovely on you Christine.

Great to see these reviewed. I’ve always wanted Dolce Vita palette so ordered today on Beautylish. Thrilled because free shipping plus $10 off as a new customer. Psyched to get, but will hold off on others until they’re in store as I need to see them in person. I have so much makeup it’s not like I NEED any! I have Nude Kate and Blondie gloss from Net-a- Porter in UK. It’s nice.

I really like that glittery colour a lot. This is not one of the quads i’ll get, even though is pretty and very wearable. I’m thinking of giving myself a CT quad or two for Christmas, so I have a long time to decide on “the one” 🙂
