Charlotte Tilbury Green Lights Colour Magic Liner Duo Review & Swatches

Green Lights
Charlotte Tilbury Green Lights Colour Magic Liner Duo ($30.00 for 0.03 oz.) features a shimmering, olive green hue on one side of the pencil and a coordinating, matte, deep green on the other side. Both had more buildable coverage than bam! opaque coverage in a single stroke, though if you tend to apply with shorter, more overlapping strokes, coverage is better (especially when we’re talking about a thin line from a normal viewing distance compared to a close-up swatch).
The texture of the matte shade was firmer, so while not uncomfortable to apply, it did tug just a touch. Both shades had longer-wear even if it wasn’t quite as long as claimed (16 hours).

Green Lights (Metallic)
Green Lights (Metallic) is a medium, olive green with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture had light glide, so it didn’t tug on my lower lash line during application but was very quick to set into place.
Fading became apparent after 10 and a half hours of wear, and it proceeded to degrade from there, so there was still 50% or so still apparent after 16 hours of wear, it definitely had faded/thinned significantly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to "stay-all day" (specifically listed as "up to 16 hours") that "glide" on and is "smudge-proof, waterproof & humidity proof." The majority of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque, buildable coverage that was easy enough to achieve, and if one applied in shorter, overlapping strokes, they looked full coverage applied.
The texture of the mattes felt a bit firmer, and while I didn't have issues with the tip snapping off when I used it as an actual eyeliner (on my lower lash line), I did have two of four shades snap when I went to swatch them on my arm. The matte shades tended to last a little longer with solid 10 to 12 hour wear that had 50% or greater color visible at the 16-hour mark. There was minimal migration/movement around my outer corner after 12 to 14 hours.
The metallic shades had slightly more glide, so they were more smudgeable, but they didn't feel overly slippery and stayed in place well. I felt like they had a similar wear time of 10 to 12 hours of good wear with 50% or greater color still apparent after 16 hours of wear. There was less movement/migration to the outer corners over time with the metallics after 16 hours of wear compared to the matte shades.

Green Lights (Matte)
Green Lights (Matte) is a deep green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable coverage from more semi-opaque to opaque, which was definitely cleanest and most even when used as an eyeliner (e.g. as a line of product) than a larger area (like all over the lid; though this formula is way too stiff for all-over lid application!).
The consistency had very minimal glide, so while it wasn’t uncomfortable to apply, there was a smidgen of tugging if I tried to apply it in a longer, more fluid stroke as opposed to shorter, more overlapping strokes (the latter being my preference, generally, and also the best way to get richer, more even coverage!). It was still mostly intact after 12 hours of wear, and while I wouldn’t say it had solid wear after 16 hours of wear, there was still visible color on.

This is the one that interested me the most. I love the metallic side but the matte side – colours like that make me look tired, even though it’s a nice shade. I’m going to check for dupes of the metallic side and hope I’ve got something similar.
I was able to compare this to Snakeskin Dress using the Temptalia “compare any two” tool and they are really quite close. I’ve also got Go for a Ride, like Nancy T, so I am pretty well covered.
I bought this for the metallic shade really. It just seemed to be brighter and have more liveliness than its counterparts.
I know that they’re not exact dupes, but I do have UD Stash and Sephora Contour pencil in Go For A Ride, therefore I will probably take a pass on this duo. I really do love these tones of green, though!
Close enough! 🙂
She is really hitting the mark with these eyeliners and giving me something to look forward to, if I’m ever going to be able to leave my house again!
I prefer the metallic side myself – I just wouldn’t use that darker matte shade at all. I have quite a few olives in my collection anyway…
