Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Review, Photos, Swatches
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow ($65.00 for 0.56 oz.) is compact that features a bronzer and a highlighter. I can see why this is one of the most raved about products from the brand’s offerings, as the texture of both powders is soft, finely-milled, and silky, while the bronzer is not too orange or yellow, and the highlighter is luminous without emphasizing pores. There’s also quite a bit of product in the compact, so it’s a better value than some of the other products in the range. They’re both nice products, and if you regularly bronze/contour and highlight, it may be convenient to have it a single palette together. If you have a healthy stash of bronzers and highlighters, you may find this more dupable.
Filmstar Bronze is a medium tan brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that applied easily and blended out nicely. It wore well for eight hours on me. Tarte Park Ave. Princess #2 (LE) is darker. IT Cosmetics Warm Radiance (P, $34.00) is more shimmery. MAC Aphrodite’s Shell (LE, $33.00) is lighter. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil (LE) is yellower. MAC Nude on Board (LE, $30.00) is warmer. Chanel Sable Beige (LE, $60.00) is yellower. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Filmstar Glow is a pale, champagne beige with a luminous sheen. It seems almost frosted initially, but it blends to a very luminous, glowing finish that doesn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture. It reflects light without looking metallic. The powder’s texture is silky, finely-milled, and very blendable. On me, the highlighter stayed on for eight hours before fading slightly. Cle de Peau Sand Beige (13) (P, $55.00) is warmer. Chanel Dentelle Precieuse (LE, $80.00) is darker. Becca Opal (P, $38.00) is darker, more shimmery. Becca Moonstone (P, $38.00) is lighter, more shimmery. theBalm Mary Lou-manizer (P, $24.00) is yellower. Chanel Mouche de Beaute Illuminating Powder (LE, $80.00) is more shimmery, darker. I don’t bronze much so this wouldn’t be too wise for me right now, but the product is gorgeous.
Makes sense!
I like this! I’m not sure I’m in the market for a new bronzer or highlighter at the moment, but if that changes I would definitely look at getting this. Thanks for the swatches Christine!
No problem, Andie!
This product has some major hype surrounding it in the online world. It looks gorgeous, but I’m really not one to wear bronzer or highlighter, so I’m going to pass.
Yes, it definitely does! Sounds like a good idea to pass if you don’t wear either type of product often!
Ditto
Do you think the illuminator would work on fair skin?
Yes!
I love the first face pic. That’s totally how I picture you! Different eye and face looks on each side to test the maximum amount of wear time 🙂
Haha, you are picturing me quite right. And I really wear two different eyes out and about. 🙂
Christine, do you think this is light, sheer, or subtle enough for the very fair? I use a very light hand but sometimes bronzers are just too dark.
Oh, yes, I absolutely think so! It’s not a product where the merest touch of the brush is like bam! bronzed!
I’ve heard so much about this! The shades look lovely – not too stark, not too shimmery.
Me too, Ankita! I was skeptical, but I really liked it.
Hi Christine
This product sure looks beautiful..do you think contour powder will show on nc40? Also I was wondering if you would recommend this or the kevyn aucoin highlighter as I am looking for a good highlighter. Thanks for all the hard work you put in:)
Hi Sweta,
I think it would show up, but I think it will subtler on you than me. The highlighter in this is very nice, but if I had to pick, I would go for Kevyn Aucoin’s!
I wish this came in other colors! I’d be all over it if the bronzer was darker
I hope she extends the shade ranges – perhaps a plummy brown with a cooler pink, a deeper bronze…
I agree! My daughter has this in her kit and on my nc45 skintone the bronzer disappears on my skin.Need something a lil darker.
I’m not much of a sculpter & highlighter, but damn, I’d become one just for this gorgeous duo! 😉
Haha!
My thoughts exactly! I never use bronzer, because it’s always too dark for me. But this one looks so perfect (I’am NC15). I think if I got this palette I would contour and highlight all the time, haha!
I am not sure of it makes sense but is the bronzer here comparable to Nars Laguna? From your swatches I see the same medium brown with gold.. I have heard great things about the highlighter here but I already have a few which I am never finishing! 😐
Laguna is darker with a stronger, warmer yellow base 🙂
I think this is perfect in every way!
Yay!
I have been using this palette everyday ever since I received it in the mail two weeks ago. I adore it! I find myself reaching for this palette even though I have a substantial number of highlighters and bronzers.
That’s so awesome, Carolyn! 🙂
I have this palette from the Nordstrom sale and love it! I can say, I’m guilty of owning a lot of bronzers & highlighters, but this one is great quality & beautiful. I can’t wait for more Charlotte Tilbury stuff to be reviewed, I always trust your opinion & testing Christine!
So glad you’re digging it, Meghan! I thought it would be nice, but I really liked it and put it in my basics drawer!
That’s awesome!
Looks gorgeous on you, Christine! This is next on my Charlotte Tilbury “to buy” list. I’ve been grabbing up the Matte Revolution lipsticks while I’m over here in the UK, but much of the permanent collection is cheaper to get in US dollars, as I’m seeing!
I can’t wait for her new products to his the US!
I need this in my life seriously!
Let me know if you give it a try, Laarni! xo
Thanks for reviewing this, I always trust your words! 🙂
I think I’ll give this a miss for now; I have already splurged on the Hourglass palette recently and feel I wouldn’t be using this so much in the autumn/winter anyway (I don’t know who I’m trying to convince here)… Maybe I’ll start saving to get this in April/May though 😀
It’s permanent, so no rush 🙂 It is very nice, but it is also something that I could easily seeing people have something similar to already. If you don’t, it’s a nice place to start!
Are the bronzer and highlighter pans the same size? It seems to me like you would use up the bronzer and then have enough highlighter to last the rest of your life…
They seem to be half and half.
Think it would work (the bronzer side) on an NC35?
I think so! I am about NC30 right now!
this looks stunning on you! i never thought it would show up on you but it is perfect! what is the darkest skin shade that would you say could wear this? NC 30ish?
have you tried the magic cream?!? looking forward to your review!!
Hi LB,
I’m NC30, and it shows up just fine on me, so I think it would be okay on medium-dark skin for sure. Dark skin may find it is subtle (though it will still add warmth, and the highlighter would work).
I haven’t tried it!
This is beautiful! Definitely going to be one of the first things I try from the brand. Can I ask what brush you use to apply highlighter? I’m a highlighting newbie and yours always looks so good!
I use a fan brush! 🙂
Very pretty duo. The bronzer doesn’t look overwhelmingly dark, which is nice.
I like that it isn’t too warm!
I love the idea of this, but I’d really have to try it in-person. The sheerness of the bronzer is nice, and not too orange or opaque, but it still seems a bit warm. As a “bronzer” I can see it working for me, but I prefer my actual “contour” products to be grayer/cooler, and more matte/dull-although the finish is gorgeous!
Hope you can check it out in store!
I always think of a “sculpt” product as being matte, but this looks fairly shimmery in the swatch. Do you feel that this is more of a traditional bronzer than contour product?
Somewhere in between, really – not as warm as most bronzers, but not gray or shadowy like a true contour.
Nice and love the packaging as well!
The packaging is well done!
This looks lovely on you Christine. Do you think this will work on my cooler toned NW20ish skin? Which do you think is a better product for contouring and highlighting, Bronze & Glow or Mac’s Accentuate Sculpt? Would really appreciate your expert opinion 🙂 Thank you x
For contouring, you may prefer Sculpt! Accentuate doesn’t highlight as nicely as Filmstar’s highlighter, though.
I know this is hyped, but it is a thing of beauty! I love the look of the palette itself and I love how the products look. This is very high up on my list, I might buy it for myself for Christmas.
It looks fantastic on you.
Thank you, Helene!!
Do you think it’s worth the price tag?
Hard to say – just depends on what kind of products you use, what you already have, what your budget is, etc.
SO gorgeous but I would have to fork an arm and leg for this haha. On my wishlist for christmas/birthday!
Now, let’s hope someone gifts it to you 🙂
I love this stuff! I bought it on a whim since I don’t usually bronze or highlight. I’m so glad I did. It’s not over the top . I’ve been using it every day. If I’m going out, I apply a bit of color and its perfect. As you said it’s got a good color payoff. No need to be heavy handed.
It’s really quite lovely!
It’s gorgeous!!!
Agreed!
I’m convinced that you could wear any blush/bronzer/contour/highlight or go without and your skin would still look flawless and glowing. This does look really nice on you!
xo,
Jenny
Aww, thank you Jenny! 🙂
You know, every time I see a new bronzer post, I prepare myself for the ‘attack of the orange’ phenomenon (no-one’s fault but mine for being a cool-toned vampire, LOL!). This time, however, I’m really impressed by how versatile that bronzer looks!
Not to mention the packaging is just STUNNING, in that luxe, Art Deco kind of way.
…and, you know, the fact that the product looks PHENOMENAL on you, Christine! I kow that’s partly down to your mad skillz, and partly down to the fact that your skintone can take a bronzer much better than mine, But still. I feel the need for MORE ALLCAPS.
GORGEOUS! 😀
I think the packaging was well-done! Just seemed very detailed-oriented.
Too warm for me but spectacular on you! I love those earrings!
Thank you, Erin! 😀
which foundation do you wear in this pictures? it looks gorgeous ! the bronzer and highlighter looks really good !
THE MAKEUP LOOK
On face: Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation, Urban Decay Naked Loose Finishing Powder. On lips: Charlotte Tilbury Ibiza Nights Lip Lustre.
You look amazing! I can’t wait to have mine 🙂
Here’s hoping you love it, Margot! ;D
I would love to know as I have just purchased this as my FIRST sculpting/highlighting product, what brush/brushes did you use to apply it? I am totally new to this kind of product and application and would loooove a recommendation 🙂
I used a fan brush for the highlighter and an angled blush brush for the contour!
Dying to try out Charlotte Tilbury products! I’ve heard so much about them!
Hope you can check out the brand sometime!
I love the rave review you gave this product! Right now the only CT product I have is her Magic Cream. Im wondering though, in your opinion, would this suit me? I’m on the somewhat darker side of medium-to-tan, with warm undertones, and my foundation shade is Bare Sand (I use the new bareMinerals liquid foundation). It’s tough for me to get to a Bergdorf or Nordstrom to check it out in person, and being that it costs a pretty penny, I want to be at least somewhat certain it won’t be a waste. 🙂
My guess is the bronzer portion is going to be very subtle 🙁
Eeep!! Might not be a good idea then…although I will say that I won’t turn it down if it’s given to me as a gift, lol! But thank you for your input though, it’s much appreciated! 🙂
I’m sorry but I didn’t see this information anywhere above… do you know where all these products are being sold? I assume Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus?
Beautylish, NET-A-PORTER, Nordstrom
I’ve seen amazing use of this onthe very fair and I’m foaming at the mouth for this, very unlikely of me for a bronzer. But it’s an AMAZING product when used right and I can’t wait to try! I’m glad it’s permanent! 😛 And you, Christine… Flawless. XO
Aw, thanks Lotus! xoxo
PS <3 the Lip Lustre! Beauty!
Ok, I have Aphrodite’s She’ll, but it’s not handsomely packaged TOGETHER with THIS highlighter! Am I right?! I am really just so in love with both! As an all over color/blush will look lovely and I adore the highlighter!! I love the blushes, so I’m guessing sticking with this line might be wise! Thank you for the dupes, but it’s just not the same. 😀
Hi Christine:) I would like to ask your opinion if the Sculpt colour will show up on a Nc42 skintone. I have seen alot of fair tone girls pulling it off really well but havent seen any tan tones girls wearing it…
Thank you
You might be better off with one of MAC’s darker shades – they have six (I think it’s still six) shades in their Sculpting range!
Would this work for NC40 skin tone?
I think so, though the bronzer may not be deep enough to contour with.
