Chanel Ultra Flesh & Vert Metal Ombre Premiere Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Ultra Flesh (838)
Chanel Ultra Flesh (838) Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, pink-coral with warm undertones and a pearl sheen. It had opaque pigmentation, but the texture was drier and felt more silicone-heavy to me, which made it harder to apply evenly and even harder to diffuse evenly. The only way I could really get it to blend out was when I used fingertips, but then it was difficult to get any opacity out of the color. It wore well for 11 hours on me before creasing.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.14 oz. - $257.14 Per Ounce
Chanel describes the formula as a “smooth-textured cream shadow [that] glides on effortlessly” and is “long-wearing.” Overall, the consistency has moderate slip–emollient but not greasy or overly wet in feel–and feels more like a traditional cream eyeshadow than Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres. They go on as a thin layer but have fairly good pigmentation. The formula dried down quite quickly leaving little time for blending or diffusing edges, even when working one eye at a time, which was where I struggled. I think some of them tended to work better as lid colors and using something else for a more diffused/blended out crease color. They did, however, wear impeccably for as long as fourteen hours on me–no creasing, fading, or flaking.

Vert Metal (836)
Chanel Vert Metal (836) Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark forest green with warm, olive undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff that applied somewhat evenly but was better as a base or gently sheered out (will be better for someone with a medium or deeper skin tone). The texture was smooth to the touch, dense, and just lightly creamy. It stayed on well for 12 and a half hours on me.

Because UD Protest and even MAC x Selena Fotos y Recuerdos both look better than these 2, I’m safe from these ending up on my WL.
I love the look of Vert Metal but have so many dupes of it that I am barely hankering after it.
I have never been wowed by the Chanel creams.
Apart from the dubious enterprise of picking two colours that are extremely popular in lots of quads, quints and palettes, they are not even good value for the price.
I’d like to know where the blue and green pigments are in that pink eyeshadow. It irks me that Chanel (and other “prestige” brands) are so lazy to put “may contain” or “+-” for certain pigments that are highly unlikely to be in every single colored product they have. It’s doubtful that the pink eyeshadow has ferric ferrocyanide, chromium oxide greens or ultramarines in it. They should be more accurate in what’s really in their individual products. Smaller companies are capable of doing this!
I swatched Ultra Flesh in store, what an odd texture — kind of spongy, not easy to pick up much color. My first time to try a Chanel cream, maybe they’re all like that. Anyway, on me it wore well but the sheen really highlighted my skin’s texture. So a reluctant pass, as I’ve been looking for a nice coral pink eyeshadow, but I’ll keep looking.
Some of the other shades are much nicer, but there have been some misses in the formula for me!
I was surprised to see a full blown Chanel counter in my local Ulta this weekend. I will be curious to see if they move any products. I don’t think the demographics in my city will translate to good sales but I guess time will tell. I have never really been to inclined to buy anything from this brand so I doubt I would ever purchase anything anyway.
