Chanel Tisse Rivoli (226) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad

Chanel Tisse Rivoli (226) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a set of warm-toned neutrals. It is very reminiscent of Chanel Raffinement, though they’re not exactly the same, they are certainly similar. All four shades wore well for just over nine hours and after, there was very, very slight creasing (no primer). The texture is soft, smooth, and they eyeshadows are incredibly blendable. The only downside is that the baked formula is a very lightweight one, so the quad only contains 0.07 oz., when many single powder eyeshadows are 0.05 oz. on average. Visually, they don’t seem particularly small, and it is often the case with baked products that they weigh less than traditional powders, but it’s hard to say if it contains as many uses as the regular quads.

Tisse Rivoli #1 is described as a “golden taupe.” It’s a dark taupe with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had really good color payoff, and the texture was soft, smooth, and silky. This shade wore well for nine and a half hours on me before showing slight creasing. YSL Saharienne #4 (P) is warmer. MAC Soul Serenade (LE, $19.50) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Silver Dawn (LE, $19.50) is warmer. Anastasia Antique (LE) is cooler-toned. Illamasqua Acute (P) is a cream product. MAC Supersweet #1 (LE, $21.00) is similar. MAC Street Cool (LE) is a cream product. MAC Twilight Falls (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. Chanel Raffinement #1 (P) is warmer. bareMinerals A-Ha (P) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tisse Rivoli #2 is described as a “light rose beige.” It’s a gold-shimmered, light beige with warm undertones and a frosted, slightly metallic, finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but the texture was still very soft and silky. This shade didn’t show signs of creasing until after nine and a half hours of wear. MAC Fabulous Three #1 (LE) is lighter. YSL Saharienne #1 (P) is less shimmery. LORAC Beige (P) is less shimmery. Too Faced Riviera (P, $16.00) is similar. Chanel Jardin Zen #2 (LE) is more pearly. theBalm #18 (P, $6.50) is similar. Tarina Tarantino Elektron (P) is darker. Chanel Quadrille #2 (LE) is warmer. MAC Phresh Out #1 (LE) is similar. MAC Exquisite Ego #1 (LE, $21.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tisse Rivoli #3 is described as a “rose-gold beige.” It’s a medium brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff, and it applied smoothly and evenly to the skin. When I tested it, the color wore well for nine and a half hours. LORAC Mocha (P) is darker. NARS Iraklion (P, $24.00) is a cream product. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is darker. MAC Pink Sensibilities #1 (LE, $21.00) is warmer. Makeup Geek Homecoming (P, $5.99) is slightly yellower. Laura Mercier Bamboo (P, $23.00) is similar. Disney by Sephora Sultana (LE) is lighter. Disney by Sephora Les Poissons (LE) is similar. Urban Decay YDK (LE, $18.00) is more metallic. MAC Caramel Sundae (LE, $15.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tisse Rivoli #4 is described as a “red brown.” It’s a dark brown with subtle, warm reddish undertones and a satin finish. It had rich pigmentation, while the texture was blendable and smooth to the touch. It lasted for nine hours before starting to fade. bareMinerals Toasted Espresso (LE, $14.00) is similar. Chanel Seduction #4 (LE) is warmer. MAC Constructivist (P, $18.00) is a cream product. MAC Havana (LE, $19.50) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Hi Christine! This quad looks really nice on you. I own Tisse Mademoiselle and Tisse Vendome and really love how silky the eyeshadows are. Now I’m tempted to look at Rivoli too!!

Although I am enjoying both, if I had to choose one, it’d be Tisse Vendome as I really love the shimmering peachy-pink shadow. Sometimes, I can find peachy-pink shadows hard to wear as they can make me look tired, but the one in Tisse Vendome warms up and brightens my eyes! Are you planning to get any more of the Chanel quads, Christine?

Lovely, but I can’t see myself spending $61 on an eyeshadow quad. You can get some great palettes with far more shades for way less money.

I just can’t get enough of Chanel’s new formulation. It is so versatile and the finished effect–from whisper soft to bold metallics–is just a matter of which tools and application techniques you choose to use. I think the tweed (Tissé) concept is a brilliant approach to eyeshadow quads. When you view a tweed up close, all the individual colors are easily discerned, but as you move away, they blend to create an overall color impression that has depth and complexity. And, because that overall color is actually made up of several distinct colors, it never looks muddy. I think Chanel’s Tissé collection is a winning interpretation of tweed.

I have Cambon, Camélia, Gabrielle, Riviera, Rivoli, Vendôme, and Vénitien. Talk about wallowing in excess! LOL Camélia, Rivoili, and Vendôme are neutrals that work beautifully with my dark warm green eyes, Gabrielle is for evening wear, and Cambon, Vénitien, and Riviera are for some fun with a bit of color. I love the new formula and decided to simply replace some of my old quads with the new 🙂

I really don’t understand why it seems *every* brand, regardless of pricepoint, seems to make such “mundane”, everyday shades & products LE… The logical thing to do, IMO, would be to make neutrals, contour/highlighter products, etc…, part of the core, and add the “fun” colors seasonally. I think more consumers would actually look forward to new collections more, and knowing they can replace the “basics” would promote brand loyalty. That said, this is still a gorgeous quad, albeit quite dupeable!

Ooops! I seemed to have missed the part that said these are permanent, LOL! Still, I think I’m just irritated by the past few Chanel collections that *were* LE, and I was never able to get any of the items I wanted…

It must go faster in your area than mine! For the most part, Chanel items seem to linger more often than not. I think some of the really specially designed powders and/or a polish or two will sell out really quickly. But yes, all but one of the new quads are permanent (8 are permanent, 1 is limited edition – Poesie, which seems to have vanished from online entirely).

Given the comparatively small amount of counters that actually carry Chanel, in the greater Los Angeles-area, things do go fast! We have many “retailers” who carry it, but they don’t in every (or even most!) of their actual stores, and then ones that do have counters are spread far apart.

what fabulous shades 🙂 i so wanted to pick Chanel Raffinement .. if i get that i will be more happy 🙂 else this i will try to get 😀 D:
lovely pictures and look Christine 🙂

as a budget-conscious girl (and really, who isn’t…even if you’re splurging!) I usually find it impossible to justify the price for luxury-brand cosmetics in neutrals that most of the high-quality wallet-friendly brands already have dupes for, but HOLY WOW. when i see the look on your lid, the colors blend and transition so seamlessly and the texture/finish is so lovely that i can’t stop staring. this one is going on the list for the next treat yo self day.

The new Chanel quads definitely have that seamless/effortless quality to them – so when you find the right combo for you, it can be a go-to look for sure.

i think as i get older (not THAT old, mind you! ;]) my attitude is changing from “splurge on something for special occasions” to “splurge on something i’d wear/use almost everyday.” i think for me there’s greater value in the splurge if i wring every last drop out of the palette rather than only reaching for it once or twice a year.

I don’t have any of the Chanel quads as there are usually very mixed reviews for most of them.. This sure looks like something I could get a lot of use of!

These seem to be more consistent than some of the others, though several of the U.S. formula quads have been quite nice over the years!

How beautiful and how nice (or not nice for my wallet) is it that these are such excellent quality because Chanel’s quads can be notoriously iffy in quality and when you’re laying out that much cash, it really burns when the product isn’t worth the price. I’m going to have to get my greedy little makeup mitts on this beauty.

Hmmmm….I might lust after this a bit. However I’m lusting even more after the Tarte Rainfores After Dark palette:s I’ll have to play around with both in store to decide based on texture I think! I love the look you’ve done with this, but something tells me I’l buying the Tarte palette regardless :s

Yes – the Chanel range, while lovely, is probably more dupable than not, which makes a lot of sense since they’ve made this a whole new and permanent selection.

This looks beautiful on you Christine! I would normally want to go and get this since I love Chanel, but it just feels a little redundant, seeing that I already own all the UD Naked palettes. Do you think I might be able to replicate this look using one of those palettes such as the Naked 3? I’m trying to avoid accumulating so many similar neutral palettes, I need to edit and simplify my collection right now! Thanks!

Thank you, Laura!

I think you could 🙂 You might find that the result is a bit more shimmery than with Chanel, but I’m sure you could get close enough!

Very pretty! It looks like Chanel has really stepped up their eyeshadow formula. All of the colors look pigmented and buttery!

Hi Christine, I love the way Tisse Rivoli looks on you it is prettier on than in the quad. I own the 228 Tisse’ Cambon and love the formula and especially that it is Talc free I still wear Talc eye shadow’s but it nice to know that they make beautiful colors and formulas that are Talc free. The next one I am going to purchase is the #42 Seduction. I tried them on in the store and was very happy with the look. Thanks for another great review.

I bought this becuz of the upper left shade.
I have cambon n venetien.
I hope you get them all to review.
Cambon becuz of the purple. Venetian has the most beautiful silver green
The purple is not too pigmented.
Gabrielle is good got smoky eye.

I bought this one and another shade at the Montreal airport duty free in March – I assumed it was just a European version of the quads and wanted to try them out. I love this one – in fact, I wore it today!

Christine, if you had to choose between this or the Marc Jacobs Lolita neutral palette, which would you (I) purchase? Thanks.

Oh, these particular colours are *so* pretty on you! it’s like the perfect ‘ever so slightly pink neutrals’ look! 😀

I swatched some of these quads at the Chanel counter the other day, and I have to say I was impressed with what I swatched! So glad this one came out well 🙂

It looked SO GREAT when I swatched it at the store! I own (and love) Raffinement, and I’ll make sure to grab Rivoli at one point or another in the future. I’m glad it got the Temptalia sceal of approval!
