Chanel Tisse Gabrielle (208) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Tisse Gabrielle (208) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad
Chanel Tisse Gabrielle (208) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a cooler-toned mix of darker neutrals with one warmer shade in the form of a white gold, otherwise the quad is variations on taupe. Overall, the eyeshadows wore well and lasted over eight hours (or longer, noted below), had decent to great pigmentation, and were easy to apply.
The entire quad, though visually they don’t seem particularly small, contains less product than most palettes/quads (including the regular U.S. version of quads). Baked formulations often weigh less than more traditional powder formulas do, but it’s hard to say if it contains as many uses as the regular quads.
Tisse Gabrielle #1 is described as a “soft grey.” It’s a medium-dark taupe that leans gray with cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had nice color payoff, while the texture was soft and smooth. The color wore well for nine and a half hours on me. MAC Soul Serenade (LE, $19.50) is darker, less shimmery. Anastasia Antique (LE) is warmer. Urban Decay Vaporize (LE, $18.00) is more sparkly. Dior Aventure (081) (P, $30.00) is a cream product. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #7 (P) is warmer. MAC Bossa Blue (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Armor (LE, $18.00) is similar. Urban Decay Mushroom (P, $18.00) is lighter, warmer. MAC Satin Taupe (P, $15.00) is warmer. Giorgio Armani #4 (P, $33.00) is similar. Chanel Illusoire (P, $36.00) is cooler-toned, cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Gabrielle #2 is described as an “iridescent white gold.” It’s a brightened, light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sparkle and finish. This shade was noticeably sparkly, so the texture wasn’t quite as smooth as other shades in the range. I had some slight fall out over time, though the color itself didn’t start to fade until after nine hours of wear. There are an extraordinary amount of shades that are very similar in regards to color to this shade! MAC Cool Companions #1 (LE) is cooler-toned. YSL Saharienne #2 (P) is less sparkly. MAC In the Meadow #2 (LE, $21.00) is less sparkly. MAC Lily White (2014) (LE, $21.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Bling (P, $5.99) is less sparkly. Dior Golden Flower #2 (LE) is lighter, less shimmery. Tarina Tarantino Taurella (LE) is less shimmery. theBalm C1 (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Greenluxe #2 (P) is very similar. Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is less shimmery. Disney by Sephora Sand in the Glass (LE) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Gabrielle #3 is described as a “grey mauve.” It’s a cool-toned, dark taupe with a purple tint and a soft, frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation that applied beautifully with really smooth, even color. It wore well for nine and a half hours before it started to crease slightly. MAC Ebony Blend #3 (LE) is more muted, grayer. Laura Mercier Violet Steel (LE, $23.00) is purpler. Anastasia Antique (LE) is similar. Urban Decay Darkside (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, purpler. MAC Graphic Style (LE, $15.00) is more muted. Urban Decay Armor (LE, $18.00) is grayer. MAC Satin Taupe (P, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Stolen Moment (LE, $19.50) is less shimmery. MAC Electroplate (LE, $18.50) is grayer. Chanel Illusoire (P, $36.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Gabrielle #4 is described as a “velvet grey.” It’s a medium-dark, murky brown with cool, gray undertones and a soft, pearly finish. It’s not quite your typical brown either. The texture was a bit drier on this shade, so while it had decent color payoff, it wasn’t as pigmented or as blendable as other shades. It wore well for eight and a half hours before it started to fade along the edges. Too Faced Dolly (P, $16.00) is darker. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #8 (LE, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery. Chanel Mystere #4 (LE) is darker, less shimmery. bareMinerals Wanderlust (P) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This could be the most “boring”of all the new quads.. but the good quality makes up for it I think!
At least there’s that, lol!
I snagged this quad right before going on vacation, where I had very limited room for cosmetics. It was a dream; literally the only eye compact I needed, because the colors blended really well and made so many different looks (sheer and shimmery when needed, dramatic and smokey with a few more layers). Bravo, Chanel!
Happy to hear it worked so well for you on vacation, Kate!
Stunning! Chanel is on a roll!
Glad you like it!
Definitely my favourite of the bunch by far and I may have to succumb.
I thought you might like this one!
While this palette is a little cool-toned for me, it’s exciting to see that all the Chanel quads have received good ratings from you, Christine! Also, your eye look makes me want to bust out my UD Rockstar liner :).
Rockstar <3
I have to admit that all of these quads are blurring together in my mind. They seem like a range of neutrals…allowing for individual preference and coloring. Am I correct? Looking at them…and I know they’re lovely and great quality…none stands out as a “need”. But I’m questioning myself…these seem like perfect basics. Maybe I actually need to go in a store and take a look…
They’re more basic sets of shades!
Oh for crying out loud! What’s a gal to do….I’m now 3 for 3 in terms of wanting all of these. I may have to sell a kidney!
LOL! At least they’re permanent, so you can take your time to decide (and acquire).
I immediately thought “this is the one” when I saw your swatches and then the look you created cemented my decision. I love every single color and the fact that this quad leans cool without giving us the typical purples and blues. I love purples and blues, but it’s nice to see a more neutral cool palette. I must have you Mme Gabrielle.
I’m so glad it lived up to your expectations, Eliz!
I quite like these colours, but (maybe it’s my monitor, don’t know) there isn’t enough difference between the 3 shades for me to find it useful.
They’re on that line between effortless and too close to be all in one palette!
While I could see people deeming it boring, I see the colors working with a variety of makeup shades making it really versatile. Shade 3 of course is my favorite, I’d love a single!
It would be nice as a single!
Boring – HA!!! I just picked this up about an hour ago and my heart is racing – that’s how not boring it is. But I know what you mean, Erin – most I’d say a good 3/5ths of my eye shadow collection is “boring” (the only vivid colours I have are those from pre-made palettes or MAC’s Birds&Berries) but I find it so deliciously interesting and use-able.
That’s a beautiful soft smokey look you’ve done here – and it seems to go really nicely with Rockstar! I agree not the most immediately arresting palette, but it is very elegant!
Thank you, Sylirael! 🙂
Another beautiful look on you….I want that Rockstar liner too 🙂
Aw, thanks, Valerie!
I came THIS CLOSE to grabbing this instead of Venitien but changed my mind because I was concerned it would be a little too dark for daily use on my hooded eyes and fair skin. I still really love the colors, though – it’d make a great smokey eye quad! It’s a toss up for me between this and Guerlain Les Gris for which one I want on my wish list.
I think Guerlain’s Les Gris might have less shimmer in it overall, so that may or may not be a defining factor!
All these quads are so beautiful! Christine, do you have a favorite yet? I didn’t swatch this one but they eye looks you did is so pretty I might have to change my mind on that.
I think Rivoli is my favorite so far!
I like Rivoli too….more than the purple one I first saw.
Thanks Christine, I was dying for your review on this quad in particular. No one does it better xoxo
No prob, Mel!
You made such a beautiful make-up with this one, very nice!
Thanks, Roxana!
Oy vey….I had errands to do at The Bay (shopping for a bridal shower) and made the mistake of stopping by Chanel, certain these wouldn’t have arrived. WRONG! I stood there, covered in swatches and madly trying to decide between Rivoli, Gabrielle and Ventien. In the end, I opted for Gabrielle but I’m going back next week for Rivoli. I got in the door and immediately (before I even put away groceries) went and applied Gabrielle and it is FABULOUS. I’m certain Rivoli will be just as wonderful and I think I’ll ask for Venitien for my birthday, if my passion for it hasn’t worn off by then.
They are quite pretty, aren’t they? I feel like it’s the finish that sells these – and it’s easier to appreciate it in person in this case!
