Chanel Spring 2012: Chanel Tigerlily Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow
Chanel Tigerlily Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow ($28.50 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “golden orange.” It’s a warm tangerine orange with a soft golden orange shimmer set in a low-sheen finish. It reminded me a lot of MAC Juiced, which is a little dirtier–not quite as clean of a color as Tigerlily. MAC Straw Harvest is also similar but lighter.
The color payoff is good, delivering a healthy amount of color without having to pack it on, and the texture is soft, smooth, and even. Though I’m not always in love with Chanel’s eyeshadow quads, I’ve had really good luck with their individual eyeshadow formula. They tend to have that silky-smooth feel that just adheres to the lid without work; it’s like they just melt against the skin for a smooth appearance that’s about as natural as orange skin is ever going to look. The shimmer is faint but noticeable; it enhances but doesn’t overwhelm, so if you find frosty finishes tend to accentuate lid texture, this is a nice way to get some of the reflective qualities of a frostier finish without that problem.

Thank you for the review! I have been waiting forever for your review, becuase your swatches are the best! I think this one will be interesting; it’s so rare that you see an orange eyeshadow that isn’t completely crazy. I might pair this with a very light pink or gold.
This colour makes me wish I had blue eyes as they look great with orange. Everybody here with blue eyes, definitely consider getting this!
Now I’m just waiting on the elusive UK release date.
Congratualtions on the engagement and Happy New Year!
It looks like pretty butter. I know that sounds weird. 🙂
Essence’s Wild One eyeshadow is a total dupe for this.
This color is absolutely lovely. Do you find it similar to MACs Angel Flame?. Or Givenchy’s quartet Candide Garden from Spring 2011?. I really am considering to buy it once it comes out, but if I already own something close, I’d rather save the money ^^. What do you think, Christine?
I just ordered this and a few new items (nail polish – June; lipsticks – Hyde park etc) from Chanel.com. I am so excited to get them all!!!
This is a really pretty color, but I don’t think it’s the kind of color I’d wear enough to justify the price-tag! I love that it’s not chalky like some of these shades tend to get.
On trend or not, I just don’t like orange…period! Every autumn, it seems, designers try to force us into orange clothes (fine for Halloween but that’s about it IMO). I remember a friend of mine buying a very expensive orange sweater because the saleswoman told her “it wasn’t orange – it was terracotta and was the hot colour this season”. Her husband told her it was orange, it was ugly and to return it. She questioned this and then asked me and I told her the exact same thing. And I don’t like orange on my eyes at all so I’ll happily be “off trend” and give this a total miss. Okay, my orange rant is over!
Same goes for me! No orange in my eyes!
This Chanel color and those previous light pink colors recently reviewed will not work well with Asian skin.
I’m loving this color! I’ve been debating on getting it because I think it will look great with the Eclosion quad 🙂
I’m one of those weirdos who really likes orange, and it usually looks good on me, so I will have to head to Nordstrom to swatch this color.
Also, Christine, I bought the Rose de Mai shadow from this same line after you reviewed it recently and I absolutely LOVE it. It’s quickly become one of my go-to shadows.
This reminds me of that Guerlain spring collection from a few years ago with the oranges and greens. Ooh, how I wanted that green lipgloss.
I’m not crazy about the color (I almost never am about orange. When I heard that it was someone’s favorite color, I thought he was crazy), but tiger lilies are my absolute favorite flower.
Thanks for the review, Christine! I’ve been waiting on this one.
I’m Asian with yellow undertones and was surprised to find that orange-ish colors like Mac’s Rule works well with coloring.
Would you be able to do a look using this color as it’s such an unusual one? I could really use tips on how to implement this color 🙂
Cant wait for you to review the chanel spring rouge coco shines! Im very interested in candeur. This eyeshadow is gorgeous, dont know if i wud get used to orange tho! Oh and many congratulations on your engagement 🙂 xxx
I really like this and I will pick it up when I pick up the blush from this release.
Hm… It’s really lovely, but I also feel it looks a lot like the orange in Mac’s “Leopard Luxe shadow quad, which I have. I use it fairly often, but I don’t know if I really need a high end dupe… Decisions, decisions…
Nice! A hard colour to find – especially in high-end shadows. I can justify buying it because I don’t have anything like it. It will bring out my blue eyes and I’ll combine it with all neutral-to-cool shades to compliment my cool colouring. I’m thinking of the taupes and whites I can use to balance that out… Not an easy shade but I’m looking forward to it.
Ahhh! I’m beyond excited. Thanks for swatching this! I’m East Asian and admittedly this may not be the best single shade for my skin type but I love doing a rainbow of colours across my lid and the only shade missing was orange. I’ve been making do with Bobbi Brown’s bright palettes. I have both versions but the colour payoff for most colours, including orange, is horrible. I cannot wait to get my hands on this. :)Thanks again for the heads up.
