Chanel Rouge-Gorge & Fleur de Pierre Illusion d'Ombres Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Fleur de Pierre (106) Illusion d’Ombre Cream Eyeshadow
Chanel Fleur de Pierre (106) Illusion d’Ombre Velvet Cream Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark gray with cool undertones and fine blue and silver pearl. Chanel’s not the first brand to take liberty with the world “matte” (“the best-loved, gel-cream shadow goes matte”), but this is certainly not matte–there is quite a bit of shimmer in this shade. The texture was noticeably drier with a very thin consistency that made blending more difficult, as the color appeared patchy and uneven. It’s better used at its semi-opaque intensity and then built-up to mostly opaque coverage. It wore for eight hours before creasing slightly. NARS Bad Behaviour (LE, $24.00) is more shimmery. MAC Deep Cravings (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. Giorgio Armani #21 (LE, $33.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Ace (LE, $18.00) is less shimmery. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Parisienne #1 (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker. Makeup Geek Prince Charming (P, $6.99) is lighter. Makeup Geek Galaxy (P, $5.99) is warmer. Tarina Tarantino Silver Shoes (LE, ) is more shimmery. Make Up For Ever ME108 Steel (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. Kat Von D Santeria (LE, ) is more shimmery. Milani Bella Gray (10) (P, $4.49) is lighter. Hourglass Graphite #4 (P, ) is darker. Urban Decay Dagger (P, $18.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Slanted (P, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Buxom Cool Caviar (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Chanel Rouge-Gorge (116) Illusion d’Ombre Cream Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a brightened pop of tangerine orange with warm, yellow undertones and a fine, light gold pearl. It had semi-sheer color payoff that was slightly buildable, but I couldn’t achieve full coverage with this product. I think it would work better as a base product or really blended out for a warm wash of color. The texture was mousse-like with light spring but has a thin, blendable feel on the skin that makes it feel more like a powder once applied. The lasting power came in at eight and a half hours before creasing. Inglot #123R Top (P, $6.00) is less shimmery. MAC Body Conscious (LE, $16.00) is darker. Dior Pareo (P, $29.00) is brighter. Make Up For Ever I724 Rust (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, brighter, warmer. Make Up For Ever I722 Mandarin (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter. ColourPop Play (P, $5.00) is lighter. Chanel Tisse Fantaisie #1 (LE, ) is darker, more muted, cooler. Anastasia China Rose (P, $12.00) is more shimmery. Anastasia Fresh Peach (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter. LORAC Apricot (LE, ) is more shimmery. Too Faced Macaron (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, cooler. Milani Bella Mandarin (27) (P, $4.49) is less shimmery. Rouge Gorge is too orangey for my eyes, but with such a bright color, maybe a soft wash or semi-opaque coverage is good . The swatch for Fleur de Pierre is missing
Fixed! Sorry!
ohhhh hoooooooooooooooo 🙁 🙁
leave aside shadows ..
am liking the new theme 🙂
way to go gurlllll
Congrats to your team
Thank you, Rashmi! Appreciate your support <3
It’s too bad these are so mediocre, but on the topic of the redesign, I have to say that I absolutely love the macro shots of the product that show the texture. Really fun to look at!
Thank you, Lyn!
YAY at you reviewing Chanel fall collection! I was eagerly waiting for your input, Christine.
That being said, your review of Fleur de Pierre squashed any urge I might have had to get it. I was more interested in other items of the collection anyway.
Rouge-Gorge looks better, but I don’t know how it would translate on my eyes.
It was SO dry!
Oh bummer! It seems that not many can do a eye shadow cream well!
I was so surprised at the dryness of Fleur de Pierre!
Fantastic job on the new website layout! It is well organized and much easier to navigate/view.
Thank you, Tammy!
Aww man sorry to hear you couldn’t get full coverage with Rouge Gorge. I definitely had to layer it on, and found that using that tiny brush helped! It’s also peach on me.
Nice to hear you were able to layer it, Indya!
I love how soft and wearable Rouge Gorge turned out to be.
One for two!
Rouge-Gorge is beautiful.
It is!
I’m thinking Halloween with these colors, hahaha!
Liking the new website layout and format! Thank you for taking all the time and effort to continually improve on what you already have, plus I love your methodology for reviewing products. You can probably write a guide book on how to test a product and what to look out for when making a purchase. =)
Thanks a lot, Paige <3
Thank goodness these are both highly dupable! I do wish that deep, smokey gray had performed better. It seems like deep grays are beginning to go the way of purples and dark blues, I fear.
I was so bummed about Fleur de Pierre!
Yup, skipping both.
Money saved!
Oh bummer on the Pierre- it’s not what I expected. I like the orangey Gorge a lot- but totally stumped as to how I’d use it. Great new format Christine!
Thanks, Trish!
These eye shadows are unusual colours – the black/grey looks very patchy in the swatch and there are lots of blacks in nearly every palette that you buy. The orange is a colour that only few can wear successfully.
I was SO disappointed with the texture of Fleur de Pierre!
