Chanel Spring 2012: Chanel Rose de Mai Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow

Chanel Rose de Mai Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow ($28.50 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “pink.” It’s more like a rosy beige, maybe a rosy peach, with a nearly matte finish. MAC Pink Frontier is a little less pink and shimmery. theBalm Stubborn is noticeably less pink and has a frosted finish. Inglot #341 is similar but just a smidgen less pink.

It has a silky soft feel; the powder is incredibly finely-milled, which gives it a yielding, dense texture that melts against the skin. It applies smoothly and without any powderiness, despite its softness, and really clings and adheres to the skin well. This type of color is an effortless nude, and it may not work on everyone, but it will be stunning on the right complexion. I see this working best on light to light-medium skin tones, both warm and cool.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Hm… I was more excited by the other single shadow and the quad when I saw the initial press release for this collection, but now you have me thinking of this one. Seems like a great everyday shadow and I’ve been very happy with the Chanel singles I have so far.

When I first see the picture I had hoped that it’s a blush, lol. I still think it will be lovely color for blush, but for eyeshadow… I’ll pass.
