Chanel Pearl Drop Le Vernis
Chanel Spring 2011: Pearl Drop
Chanel Pearl Drop Le Vernis Nail Colour ($23.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.) is a softened white gold frost with a slight metallic finish, sprinkled with pale gold micro-shimmer. There is something about this that reminds me of two things: brides and
CHANEL LE VERNIS is a pricey product that often comes out with more unique shades (that are later replicated by other brands). The originality or amount of depth in their shades is what often pulls me towards them. Overall, I’ve had good luck with the formula and wear. The formula tends to be on the thicker side but not so thick it’s gloppy, while I typically get a full week’s worth of wear (and just minor tip wear).
Pearl Drop stays true to past Chanel lacquers; the same slightly thicker formula with decent pigmentation, but this is a shade that seems designed to be worn sheer. I used two coats, and you could definitely try a third, but I think there was enough visible nail line at two that there would still be some at three. If you want a more opaque effect, try wearing a base polish underneath (like a white) to make it pop.
Edited @ 8:21AM: Sorry… swatches should be fixed! I was sleeping so I wasn’t able to get them faster – really sorry all for screwing up so badly! 🙁

FINAL THOUGHTS: I really like this shade, but I’m personally a fan of golds and white golds in general, so I find it a very flattering shade against my warm skin tone. I do think that this shade can be found in other brands, though, so you may want to check your stash first.

Chanel pearl drop looks to be very similar to Essie Show me the ring from the Essie wedding collection of 2010.
I picked that up today at Ulta after seeing Pearl Drop at Saks. I didn’t have a chance to look at them side-by-side, but as far as I can tell, it’s a great dupe!
i’ve seen some dupes like this from a few of the asian brands 😉
Wait. It isn’t limited edition? I thought it was… and swatches please! Merry Christmas/happy holidays!
They’re supposed to be perm based on the info I have!
Very pretty on you!
No worries – this is totally worth the extra bit of waiting for the proper swatches! Love it 🙂 Very glad this seems to be a permanent colour; This is definitely going on my splurge list – though I did get Chanel for Christmas yesterday (Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Vert Khaki 88) so my Chanel cravings should be satiated for a (little) while at least 😉
Kyoto Pearl by OPI looks very similar too!
I think Kyoto Pearl lacks the golden shimmer, it’s more of a pearly, slightly silvery white.
The Chanel website has “Limited Edition” under the 3 polish colors when you click on “2011 Spring Line.”
Hi Rachel,
I’m going by the Chanel press release.
It reminds me a lot of OPI Van-Couvered In Snow
Dear Christine,
You are allowed to sleep at night you know! Plus it’s Christmas Day, nobody would mind if you took the day off you know! 😉 Although of course it would be a long 24 hours without new posts on Temptalia! 😀 I have no idea how you do it, you post 4-5 new posts a day, every day. I think we’re too spoilt actually! 😉
Merry Christmas! 🙂
Everybody makes mistakes and it’s CHRISTMAS! It’s a miracle you’re even posting.
Beautiful! *o*
This looks great on you! However, I think I’m too fair, so I’ll stick to Black Pearl for me. 😉
I was just wondering what base and top coat you use to get a weeks wear out of Chanel nail polishes? I’ve used everything and it always peels on me!
I use Zoya’s!
Thank you, I’ll definitely be trying that!
It’s pretty, but not really my thing, I thought it would be more opaque.
WOW. I wasn’t at all impressed by how it looked in the bottle (I like reds and teals and deep greens when it comes to nail polish, the only exception being a clean French manicure) and skipped right over this entry, but then I clicked on it and I’m glad I did. It looks beautiful on your nails! It really is a stunning white-gold, and I’m seriously considering adding it to my collection. Thanks so much Christine
Such an ugly color 🙁
brushstrokey and so 80s
Do you like Happy Anniversary by OPI as well? 🙂
I don’t have any OPIs, sorry!
I purchase all 3 of the polish’s and Pearl Drop is on Probation right now. I don’t know if I should keep it or return it. I really do think it is pretty but it just does not feel right on me Maybe because it winter I don’t know I wonder if I would like it better if I had some color I am so pale right now
This is beautiful, but it will not suit me. I pass.
A possible dupe would be YSL’s la laque in “Nacre Pur” (shade no. 12), except that
it is a little whiter, and more shimmery. In contrast, “Pearl drop” is a slightly creamy, pearly white, with gold micro-shimmer
