Or Noir (17)

Chanel Or Noir (17) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a deeper black with warmer undertones and flecks of gold, lavender, and silver sparkle throughout. It had semi-sheer color coverage in a single layer, and I found it was best applied with a flat, synthetic brush pressed onto the lid for the initial layer.

After letting the initial layer dry down, going back in with the included applicator to pat on additional color where higher coverage was desired worked well without disturbing the first layer. The texture was very fluid and thin, which likely was part of why it tended to sheer out initially. It lasted well for nine hours without fading or fallout.

Formula Overview

$36.00/0.2 oz. - $180.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "lustrous, buildable colour" that can be "smudged out easily with fingertips" or with the "included applicator." I'd argue that most shades were semi-opaque to opaque in a single layer, and the liquid format made them easy enough to sheer out for more of that "veil" of shimmer that was described. I found them usable as standalone eyeshadows as well as for layering on top of other products or as a wash of shimmer.

The consistency was lightweight, more watery initially, but it set to a transfer-resistant finish within 10 to 20 seconds. The shimmer within the formula seemed finer, so while it had a sheen and sparkle, it sat more smoothly on my skin and was easier to diffuse and spread out for an even result. They lasted for over 10 hours without fading, flaking, or creasing on me, but if you do more moderate blending with a brush after they've dried down, you risk potential flaking (not uncommon once something is fully set but always worth noting).

Or Ambre (27)

Chanel Or Ambre (27) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a rich, deeper gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had rich color coverage in a single layer, which made it easier to work than some of the brand’s other liquid eyeshadows (which are sheerer and may require more manipulation to even out).

I also found that was blendable and could be sheered out for a wash of gold shimmer/sparkle, if desired. The texture was lightweight, thin, and very fluid, but it was fairly quick to dry down so it didn’t get into fine lines as it was drying down. It stayed on nicely for 10 hours without fading or creasing on me.

I love liquid metallic shadows but the majority of brands only launch very warm toned colors that I can’t wear; usually warm champagne, copper, rose gold, gold and deep bronze. If they do create a neutral or cool option, it’s always very dark. Is it that hard to create a pale smokey lilac, a light taupe with silver shimmer or, at the least, a neutral leaning warm silver/pewter instead of the bright icy silvers usually seen?
