Rayon (22)

Chanel Rayon (22) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium gold with strong, warm peach undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good color coverage in one layer, though it could be sheered out for more of a wash of color or to medium-level coverage if desired. The liquid eyeshadow had a lightweight, thin texture that was watery but not to the point where it was hard to maneuver the product across my skin. I had enough time to get into place and diffuse the edges, but then it dried down fully and was budge-proof. It stayed on well for 10 hours without fading, creasing, or flaking.

Formula Overview

$36.00/0.2 oz. - $180.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "lustrous, buildable colour" that can be "smudged out easily with fingertips" or with the "included applicator." I'd argue that most shades were semi-opaque to opaque in a single layer, and the liquid format made them easy enough to sheer out for more of that "veil" of shimmer that was described. I found them usable as standalone eyeshadows as well as for layering on top of other products or as a wash of shimmer.

The consistency was lightweight, more watery initially, but it set to a transfer-resistant finish within 10 to 20 seconds. The shimmer within the formula seemed finer, so while it had a sheen and sparkle, it sat more smoothly on my skin and was easier to diffuse and spread out for an even result. They lasted for over 10 hours without fading, flaking, or creasing on me, but if you do more moderate blending with a brush after they've dried down, you risk potential flaking (not uncommon once something is fully set but always worth noting).

Rising Sun (24)

Chanel Rising Sun (24) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium copper with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of pink and gold sparkle over a subtle, metallic finish. It had buildable coverage from medium to mostly opaque, and it seemed to have flatter sparkle and finer pearl, which made it easier to build up without getting an uneven/overly thick result (which is usually an issue with liquid formulas). The consistency felt lightweight, watery but it spread fairly evenly and then set fully within 15 to 20 seconds. It could have been a bit more blendable when it was sheerer, though. It lasted well for 10 hours without fading, flaking, or creasing.

Quartz Rose (26)

Chanel Quartz Rose (26) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, though it could be diffused and sheered out to a wash of color (or more medium coverage) if desired–but definitely more pigmented than described. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and thin with a bit of wateriness to it but there was a little more substance to it that made it easier to work with. It was still going strong after 10 hours of wear.

Desert Wind (28)

Chanel Desert Wind (28) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium, golden taupe with warm undertones and a lightly, sparkling metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage in a single layer, which could be sheered out to a fairly even wash of color and faint sparkle. It appeared cooler-toned when worn at a higher opacity (almost silvery in its sheen). The texture was lightweight, watery while still being spreadable, and dried down within 15 seconds to fully dried down finish. It wore well for 10 hours without fading, flaking, or creasing on me.

Vastness (32)

Chanel Vastness (32) Ombre Premiere Laque ($36.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a deeper taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a cooler, plummy sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer–and it was the most pigmented in the five released–that diffused to semi-opaque coverage at best unless one used the smallest amount and then sheered it out. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and thin without being too watery, though it felt wet as it went on initially. It dried down within 15 to 20 seconds and stayed on well for over 10 hours without fading, creasing, or flaking.

Thanks for the review. You mention Vastness is the most pigmented of the five, yet it has a 7 pigmentation rating-lower than the others which are 7.5. I am a bit confused.

I purchased Vastness and Quartz Rose and enjoy them both. I’m so surprised that they really don’t budge. I plan to pick up Rising Sun next.
