Chanel Precision Eye Definer
Recently, three new, limited edition shades of Chanel Precision Eye Definer ($29.00 for 0.03 oz.) were released in some brighter pops of color. I’m usually disappointed by Chanel’s limited edition eyeliners, and unfortunately, these weren’t impressive. Chanel’s formula is quite waxy, so it does glide across the skin, the color payoff is often uneven and sheerer. Sometimes they layer decently, other times the waxiness seems to build-up while the color stays about the same. I get noticeable fading after six hours of wear, and by eight hours, they look smudged.
Berry Lucky is a brightened, fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a subtle, pearled sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single stroke, and this was the more buildable shade of the three. Urban Decay Woodstock (LE, $19.00) is very similar. MAC Process Magenta (P, $16.00) is matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Cocorange is a brightened, medium-dark orange with reddish undertones and a satin finish. It never built up to more than semi-opaque color–there was a translucency to it so that parts of it appeared redder and other parts appeared more tangerine and yellowed. It’s a very unique color as far as I can tell, though. MAC Genuine Orange (P, $16.00) is matte, lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sweet Star is a muted, bluish teal with a soft, frosted finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation in one stroke, and it was only buildable to semi-opaque color. Again, it looked somewhat uneven when built up. Urban Decay Vacancy (LE, $19.00) is greener. MAC Deep Blue Sea (LE, $16.00) is darker. Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy (P, $15.00) is greener, more sparkly. NARS Khao San Road (P, $24.00) is lighter, bluer. Urban Decay Junkie (P, $19.00) is more sparkly. NARS Abbey Road (P, $24.00) is darker, brighter. MAC Undercurrent (P, $15.00) is more sparkly, greener. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I really dislike Chanel…
I like Chanel, but I don’t usually like their eyeliners.
Can’t believe how low these ranked! In my (short) experience with Chanel, their products are usually pretty spectacular.
I’ve rarely had good luck with their eyeliners 🙁
Yup, that’s about what I guessed. I’m devoted to Chanel’s foundation. Nothing else made works better for my skin’s condition and color. I also like their fragrances, and some blushes and lipsticks. But I’ve never had any luck with their eye products.
I’ve liked their mascaras and eyeshadow quads (particularly the new ones – the other ones were more hit or miss for me), but eyeliners… I think only one or two have been decent.
The colors are fun! Too bad they don’t perform well 🙁
They are! Unique, at least.
I’m sorry to say I’m not surprised that these are below average.. Chanel usually comes out with such mediocre eyeliners. WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS! I mean, considering you’re Chanel atleast try a bit harder to get the formula right to justify the name and price tag.
It is so strange that they cannot get the formula right!
Wow, I expected better from Chanel. It’s a shame, because they could have been great colors.
Me too 🙁 Well, I half-expected better. I think it’s more “it should be better, but I’m only a little surprised they aren’t.”
I’m thinking I’ll buy these and photograph it with my middle finger up & send it to Sephora for their shitty customer service.. If you have a sale with a known large influx of peeps, best be able to handle it! And I’m sick, feverishly thought everything out like a mad woman and this is what its come to. But damn I need my eye cream! Is anyone else having problems? I’m Arranging a chill-out for us. 😉
Yes, their site is totally overloaded. I know that for the most part, they are queuing traffic up, which is supposed to allow people to shop the site, check out, and then someone else can get in – rather than the whole thing just going down and nobody getting in. Corporate did email partners this morning to let us know that they’re working on it.
Well, what I’ve found last night and today is that you can do one thing if you are lucky– like add or subtract an item and then it crashes again. So I am actually scared to check out as with the VIB status you only get one coupon use, or at least that is my understanding.
GIFTVIB/GIFTROUGE work multiple times!
While I’m not a huge Chanel fan, I’ve a growing appreciation for the brand and this is a real disappointment.
Such a shame 🙁
The colors are so fun and bold. It’s a shame the formula didn’t do them any justice. Shame on you, Chanel
It’s so waxy… I just don’t know why.
I really can’t understand why a high-end brand like Chanel would come out with these substandard eyeliners – it’s embarrassing and de-values their brand. Better that they don’t sell this limited edition at all. Do they think that people will actually pay $29 for these? And that people don’t read reviews online? Sorry Chanel, but I can get drugstore eyeliners (L’Oreal Infallible, Prestige Total Intensity, Essence Gel), etc for $2- $8 each, and they perform 10x better than these.
Maybe for someone who likes the idea of teal but wants very low impact? But I don’t even feel like it goes on that great!
Christine, do you have availability details on these? Want to test them out in person!
I only know of it on chanel.com. I have no info on this collection except what’s on Chanel’s site!
I don’t think I’ve ever tried an eyeliner from Chanel. I’m not going to start with these. I do like that the colours are fun and kind of unique, though.
I probably would pass – better products from Chanel at $30+ – eyeliners you can get some really fab options for way less.
Damn, I was hoping that the berry one would perform quite well but it didn’t. I was maybe going to get it but I think I’ll need to have a rethink. :/
I was sad! 🙁
Love that blue colour – but there are many more of those at half the price and double the quality.
Agreed!
What a shame, the pink and orange are more unique colors, and especially for Chanel.
Yes — I was surprised by their uniqueness, which just made it more disappointing that they under-performed.
Hi Christine, I have all three pencils and even thought they didn’t review well I am still happy with my purchase. The colors are so unique and they did perform well for me. I don’t use pencils on my water line so maybe that’s the difference.
I wasn’t testing them on my water line, just lower lash line 🙂
LOL, like Dior’s eyeshadow palettes, I’ve kind of learned to wince a little in advance when I see reviews of Chanel’s eyeliners, LOL! I think I’ll stick with UD Woodstock for a hot pink (if I ever get around to buying one), and one of the MYRIAD awesome turquoises out there, but I’m most disappinted that the orange was a flop. There aren’t that many oranges out there (certainly not in NZ, where MAC and Chanel are about the same price anyway), and although If I’m honest I probably wouldn’t wear an orange eyeliner much, I want one nonetheless!
GET ON IT, UD! 😛 Alternatively, COME TO NZ, SEPHORA!
One Sephora for NZ, please!
What I’ve always had an intense dislike for are Chanel’s lip glosses. They’ve got to be some of the worst I’ve ever used. Even worse than the crappiest drugstore brands, I swear. After seeing these swatches, I’ll never buy their pencil liners either. Although, gotta say, I really like the lip liners I’ve tried. They stay put for a very long time & are incredibly pigmented.
I love the idea of taking a photo of me flipping the bird and sending it to a company LOL Just added that to my list of ‘Ways in which to let shitty companies know that I’m fed up with them’ 🙂
