How do you minimize impulse purchases?

How do you minimize impulse purchases?

I just try to spend more time thinking about the purchase to begin with. I take myself through my litany of questions about whether I should/shouldn’t purchase something, particularly why this moment, and so forth.

Are you ever afraid to use something out of fear of finishing it?

Are you ever afraid to use something out of fear of finishing it?

I’m not mostly because it’s ridiculously difficult for me to finish a typical product (outside of basics, like foundation), and what I have learned about the industry and myself is that no matter how much I love a particular shade, there are enough options and other products I love that I can...

What was the last beauty brand you tried? What was the verdict?

What was the last beauty brand you tried? What was the verdict?

Do you change how you wear your makeup around family?

Do you change how you wear your makeup around family?

I’ll make sure I am matching/cohesive if it’s extended family I have not seen in awhile (or don’t see often) and we’re spending a chunk of time with, e.g. going to a cousin’s wedding and seeing all of my extended family for three days. If it’s my immediate family, then I test as usual.

Rant & Rave: Milani

Rant & Rave: Milani

Tell us what you love and hate about...

Milani

Milani has always felt like an underrated drugstore brand, and I don’t know if that has had a lot to do with accessibility in stores or not, but now that they’re more readily available online, I feel like they’re getting the love they deserve. It’s one of the few drugstore brands that I feel I can rely on to put out decent to good powder-based products (eyeshadow, blush, etc.), which is an area that has improved significantly in the last couple of years in drugstore/mass brands but Milani’s been better in that area for years. I also like that their packaging seems a bit nicer for the price point–doesn’t feel super flimsy most of the time.

Does social media do more harm than good in the beauty industry?

I am torn; there are some good aspects, like when we collectively voice to brands that a shade range is poorly done or that we see through misogynistic and pandering marketing campaigns, because our voices are louder together and it’s easier to tweet than it is to write a letter into corporate....
