Buxom Serial Kisser Set
Buxom Serial Kisser Set

Buxom Serial Kisser Set ($32.00 for 5 x 0.04 oz.) includes five shades of miniature-sized Full-Bodied Lipsticks. Two of the five shades are part of the permanent range, while three are limited to this set (as far as I know). A full-sized lipstick contains 0.13 oz. of product and retails for $21. The set is pretty much a value of $32 in lipstick, but the benefit is you get five shades instead of one and a half–so for less the price of two individual shades, you get five to play with. I like the idea of variety, as most of us don’t know what it’s like to finish a lipstick (at least not very often!). After trying these, one thing I didn’t love was how skinny the actual lipstick was, as it made application not as easy as when it’s using the full-sized bullet. They’re just really long and skinny, and I was worried they would break, but none of them did after using them, so at least that went okay! The formula is consistent with the permanent range.

Menace is described as a “rich wine.” It’s a rich, brightened berry-red with cool undertones and very fine ruby red shimmer. It had mostly opaque color with a barely-there translucency that kept it looking more lightweight in comparison to other shades in this formula. The finish was still glossy and luminous, though. It wore well for six hours, and it left behind a berry-ish stain. When I wore it, the formula of Menace was somewhat hydrating. Guerlain Gigolo is a bit darker. Guerlain Orgueil is similar. Giorgio Armani #408 is more muted. Burberry Bright Plum is similar. See comparison swatches.

Provocateur is described as a “true red.” It’s a bold, brightened, medium red with very subtle pink undertones and that leans slightly blue. When I swatch it, I see slight blue undertones, but when applied–against my skin tone–it looks slightly warm-toned. It was opaque and wore for six and a half hours. Urban Decay F-Bomb is warmer. Edward Bess Eternal Passion is slightly muted. MAC Ronnie Red is bluer. Guerlain Garconne is darker. Dior Diorling is darker, more matte. Buxom Scoundrel is cooler-toned. Make Up For Ever #43 is more matte. See comparison swatches.

Mistress is a slightly warm-toned, medium pink with a luminous sheen. It had rich, opaque color payoff and wore well for just over four hours. This shade was nicely hydrating and applied evenly and smoothly. MAC Hoop (DC, $15.00) is more matte. MAC Viva Glam Nicki (LE, $15.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches.

Centerfold is a pinky-mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It applied with mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency seemed a bit more emollient with more slip compared to the other shades. It lasted four hours on me, which is about average, while being incredibly moisturizing. MAC Plumful (P, $15.00) is darker. Guerlain Rendez-vous (LE, $35.00) is shimmery. Chanel Paradis (P, $34.00) is shimmery. Bobbi Brown Wild Rose (LE, $24.00) is darker. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $21.00) is slightly lighter. See comparison swatches.

Moonlighter is a fuchsia-shimmered, cool-toned berry with a pearly shimmer. It was semi-opaque, but it had a noticeable translucency, and in that sense, it was similar to Menace. It wore well for five hours, and then it had a stain that lingered for another hour or so. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is not quite as shimmery. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is richer. Tom Ford Beauty Violet Fatale (P, $49.00) is purpler. MAC Rebel (P, $15.00) is less shimmery. NARS Valparaiso (P, $26.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches.

These are GORGEOUS. Lipstick is one of the few items I do actually finish (though, as you say, not all that often but certainly more than eye shadow or blush!) and I’ve never tried the Buxom lipsticks. Very tempting though all my shopping now is geared to others!

I believe that’s what I had in my original post (which I would expect was from the press release), but it is still available now, and with Guerlain, LE/P status seems like a total toss-up!

Christine, you look great here- your skin is glowing! I need to ask two things: where are your earrings (etsy by any chance?) and what foundation are you wearing?

WoW! I love Menace and Provocateur! I don’t like how you said the tubes were fairly skinny. Good thing my two favorite colors are the permanent ones. May just get the full size.
Are you wearing the new Guerlain powder you reviewed the other day? Your complexion looks so beautiful in these pics!

Hey Teresa!

Yeah, they were… surprisingly skinny? I knew they were mini, I just expected shorter and stumpier? Like the full-sized, just shorter, lol!

Yep, Guerlain Tenue + Les Voilettes! 🙂

Ooooh!! This looks so tempting!! & Menace, especially, looks gorgeous on you! I think I might actually like the slimmer stick…I’ve found this formula to be so HEAVY, so it might help to apply less! Moonlighter looks amazing!!

Christine, have you tried/reviewed any of the buxom glosses? They are my absolute favorites–I am a total FIEND for them, & would love to see swatches! Particularly of the multi-gloss kits! Thanks!

Every single one of these looks gorgeous on you! I have Menace and it has been my favorite lipstick of the season. I love it full-force (as you are rocking) and also as a stain. And, I’m super-fair (cool undertones), with blue eyes and blonde hair. So, I’m guessing Menace is one of those that will flatter many. Now I want all of these. If a girl HAD to choose, would you say this set or UD’s Black Friday bundle would be the better haul? I’m so nervous that the UD bundle is going to sell out before I can get my hands on it. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Oh, man… the UD set is a better *deal* since they’re all full-sized – but I would look at whether you’d wear the shades in it vs. this set. This set should also continue to be out for awhile since it’s carried at several places!

Christine 🙂 i really loved your this line –
but I would look at whether you’d wear the shades in it vs. this set.

So , If i miss the set which is likely to happen am sure ( I DONT WANT TO MISSSS though )
i will pacify myself with this 🙂
ohhhhhh why do i need the whole set when am not going to wear 3 shades …

Alllll lip colors are gorgeous on you , SUPERRRR gorgeous on you
I only have one full size so the set is def. a great pick for me :d

you know dear , the only reason i skipped this set during sephora sale is the reviews –
lots of customers mentioned there that as these are too small they were so delicate to use and apply .

and you also mentioned the same – sleek and delicate but they didnt break 😀
bang on !

honestly , the only lipstick I used more then half is “SWEETIE”
pat my back 🙂

Oh gosh, I really hope they come out with Centerfold in their full-size permanent range. I’m a pale cool blonde who’s been looking for the perfect subtle pink for the day, and that looks perfect for me.
