Butter London British Racing Green Nail Lacquer
Butter London British Racing Green Nail Lacquer
Butter London British Racing Green Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “dark hunter green.” It’s a rich, luxuriously dark cool-toned green with soft emerald green sparkle. I don’t have much like it, which is always something I can appreciate. Illamasqua Kink is the closest in color, but it has such a different finish that the two really aren’t dupes. MAC Jade Dragon would be the next closest, but it’s darker, cooler-toned, and the shimmer is more dominant.
The shade was opaque in two coats and applied without bubbling or streaking. I’ve had good luck with Butter London’s lacquers so far (I’ve tried maybe ten or less?)–they’ve allowed me to add some really phenomenal shades to my stash! British Racing Green is no different! Since it felt like I hadn’t tested the wear of Butter London in awhile, I wore this shade for a week, and I didn’t have any chips, just minor tip wear. I did have some faint staining, even though I used a base coat.

This actually looks like Deborah Lipmann’s “Don’t tell Mama”, so there’s another dupe suggestion! (:
Don’t Tell Mama is a blackened teal. This polish is noticeably green, I have both and they are not that close imo.
I have both, and Don’t Tell Mama is nothing like British Racing Green. This one is like a hunter green; Don’t Tell Mama is definitely teal and much darker.
I gasped when I saw the swatches. that’s a beautiful color! I’ve never tried Butter London, and this color could very well be the first one I buy :]
Ah, this looks lovely… I wonder why green polish always stains?! Every single green I have, from pastel mint to deep teal green all stain and i hate it so I don’t tend to wear them.
Which is a pity, because some of them are gorgeous 🙁
Oh, what a lovely green! I’ve been really into dark, sort of hunter greens recently, and this looks absolutely perfect.
Not for me, because I’m ridiculously utilitarian for a beauty blogger, but still. It’s quite pretty. 😛 I kind of want a wall or painting this colour – or a scarf, but I haven’t been able to find anything this deep!
This is my first and favorite Butter London color in my collection. I freaking LOVE it. I have to wear two coats of base coat under it, though, because it stains really badly.
OOh! LOVE this color! next time I’m out shopping for nail polish I’m picking this one up for sure!
I love this one, especially for late fall/early winter when I’m transitioning to cooler tones. I love bL’s nail foundation and have never had an issue with staining.
OT:
Where did the Love It/Leave It buttons go?
We had to temporarily disable because they were really, really slowing down the site!
I love this polish, I have a similar (more budget) one from Barry M called “Racing Green” it’s almost identical!
Pretty! This looks very much like OPI cuckoo for this colour (on me.)
Funny that my hubby’s car is in British Racing Green color too. It’s supposed to be a deep green in bright light and appears black in low light. Well, that’s the color for the car, of course.
I wonder if this is the same. I don’t normally want to spend that much for a nail polish but the name am the color makes me want to try it out.
mmmmmm love it 😀
It’s wouldn’t necessarily be my go-to colour or anything, but the nail polish is nice and shiny with consistent sparkle. It looks nice on your nails.
When I was very little and living on the island of Hawaii my father had a green convertible MG car and it was this exact shade of green!! Made me think of it instantly. MG (Morris Garages) is/was a British car maker until the early 80’s…
I love it when colors bring back vivid memories 🙂
I was so excited for this color as green is my fave color. However, I don’t find it very office appropriate like I thought it may be. And I have terrible luck with butter London chipping. Why I keep purchasing idk?!!
I bought this because it’s the same color of my car… I couldn’t resist! lol
my dad owns an original Audi Sport Quattro, one of 5 in the USA. His is the only green one and it is in the traditional British Racing Green. The shade of green is very famous and comes in both a creme and a frost finish (on cars and all things English Racing). This nail color is SPOT on to the famous racing green that most all know and love from tradition. Just a little tid bit, thought you would be interested. Nice work again Christine.
This is such an amazing color. I’ve always loved British Racing Green; used to own a Triumph motorcycle that sported these colors. 🙂
This looks so beautiful. I love darker and vampy shades on my nails.
I love Butter London! But somehow I have a problem making them last a week without chipping, granted that I haven’t been using nail polish for that long. I have the Butter London nail foundation and hardwear coat… but my nails still chip after 3-4 days. 🙁 So what do u do to make it not chip?
I use Zoya’s Armor + Anchor – but I can’t think of a polish that chips on me.
this green is very beautiful. i will buy it sure 🙂
This is a great shade. I also have no dupes for it in my stash or mind’s stash. It’s a nice change in winter from the deep grays, vampy reds and other work appropriate winter shades. This one is completely work appropriate.
OMG it is great colour!
I’m wearing Ulta Envy, which I think I bought for a dollar on clearance when they were last changing their bottle packaging, and I don’t own the Butter London, but I’ve lusted over it on the blogs and I do wonder how close they may be. My husband came home last night, saw my Envy, and said, “Oh, it’s like a racing green!” Ha, so there you go.
Ulta makes a dupe for this called Envy. I bought it today and really like it! 🙂
