Bright Makeup: So Blue, So, So, Blue!

Bright Makeup: So Blue, So, So, Blue!

I thought about doing a mix of blue and some other color (was leaning towards purple), but then I thought, “It’s been awhile since I’ve done *all* blue, hasn’t it?” and then this was created. The blues I used almost look like they’re glowing in the close-up photos, which is kind of cool! 🙂

Don’t be afraid of color — try it at home! If you don’t love it, you can always wash it off. Also a must? Make funny faces in the mirror if you’re not comfortable with wearing those bright colors. It should be fun, so have fun! 🙂

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Clear Sky Blue pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Sky Blue eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Winkle eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Electric Eel eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. With the 219, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease, and then use the 226 to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant eyeliner on the outer lower lash line with Silver eyeliner on the inner lash line, then Atlantic Blue eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. On the upper lash line, apply Blue Herizon liquidlast liner and smudge with Atlantic Blue eyeshadow and the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.

For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Peachstock lipstick first, and then layer Frankly Fresh lipglass for a complementing lip.

I’ve been doing blue shadow all week after glowyjoeybunny (on twitter) and I had a short conversation about being afraid of blue shadow. But even after wearing blue in different ways for a week I don’t think I’d have the guts for this one!

I may have to link to this look as an example of ultimate daring when I am finished logging my blue-phobia progress. 🙂

Wow, I didn’t think much of it until I saw the face shot, it is so pretty and fresh! Love the whole look. I love the blush and lip combo.. Yay

Casey Avatar

Oooh…so lovely! I am in love with those vibrant blue colors. I just bought Peachstock and its my new fav lipstick. Its nice to see it in one of your gorgeous looks! =)

Petra Avatar

Oh sooo gorgeous! The blue and peach combination suit your hair and skin colour so well, and the blue really brings out your eyes. Love it! 🙂 (I may just end up wearing some blue eyeshadow and peach-nude lips, ofc an office-appropriate version of it. I have a meeting. 🙁 )

Heather H Avatar

Wow! That’s very pretty it suits you so well. I love how you use products from new collections in your looks. It’s nice to see the products on a full face 🙂

Nicky Avatar

Breathtakingly beautiful!!! Your color palette is so balanced and composed – the overall look is fresh and pretty, not overdone. I LOVE IT!!!!

Steph Avatar

Beauuuutiful! The blues do look like they are glowing! I also really love the cheeks & lips. I went into MAC & wanted peach blush & lipstick, and the girl applied Peaches blush and Shy Girl lipstick on me. They are nice, but I like these better!

Frances Avatar

Ah, pretty pretty! So bright and fun. How about that purple look?

Seriously, I LOVE this look! When I saw the closeup, I thought it was just the same colour all over the lid and I was like ‘All those products just for that?’, but then I saw the full-face shot and it’s so stunning! The colours all really stand out and come into their own. Gorgeous.

I never ceased to be amazed at how great bold & bright colours look on you. I’m always a little shy of bright blues (NW 15 and light blue eyes), but this makes me awnt to give it a shot…

margot Avatar

Gorgeous ! I rarely wear blue e/s because I feel it doesn’t suit me much but it’s wow on you !!
And, on a side note, the mascara looks really good … I now want to try it !

shontay Avatar

Great look Christine. Blue is my favorite color so big thumbs up from me. I think I need to go to the pro store and buy Sky Blue. I never noticed it before.

By the way, I love the way MUFE HD looks on you. I remember you not being too crazy about it, but I like it. 🙂

Roxanne Avatar

Blue has always been my favorite color on you! Gorgeous. Kinda funny: earlier this week I did a look using silver, bright turquoise and dark blue. I had never worn blue before so it was quite an experience! I just thought to myself, “Christine would soooo do this! Just go for it!”. And so I did 🙂 I guess great minds think alike, huh? 😉

Anitacska Avatar

Wow, this is gorgeous, Christine! I wore blue on Monday too, used Cornflower pigment as base, Suave Intention in the inner corner plus above the crease, Contrast (the dark blue from Rose is a rose quad) in the crease, Cornflower in the middle and below lower lashline, Solar White to highlight below browbone, the bright blue L’Oreal HIP eyeliner on lower waterline/lashline, and paired it with Stereo Rose MSF on the cheeks and Color Me Coral lipstick with Cha Cha lipglass on top. Now I regret not taking any photos as it looked really good. Love Cornflower, it’s such a gorgeous blue shade! 🙂

Annie Avatar

I looooove this look on you – SO so pretty on your brown eyes! :]
Also, I like how the gold tones in Femme-Fi kind of contrast a little with the blues, very pretty!

Leah Avatar

I always love the way your looks go. You’re so beautiful and it’s always a treat to see what you come up with. I love the blush and lips combos you do. It really helps me figure out what to do with my looks as well.

Mora Avatar

how comes, that EVERY color looks good on you? 🙂

when i saw first the closeup photo, i was thinking “ohno, no one can wear that blue”. but it looks amazing on you!

J Avatar

This is gorgeous!
Man, looks like this make me wish my eyes were brown so I could pull off the bright blues and greens – I have green eyes and it seems like the only colours that look good are browns and golds. 😛 Ah well!

Mirna Avatar

Hi Christine!
Wow, this is beautiful. I will want to try this look myself. I have a question: Do you mostly/only use the mixing medium with pigments? I want to buy it for better application of pigments but wanted to know if you have other uses for it as well?
Thank you.

kali Avatar

Looks amazing as always! Glad you went with “all blue” actually.

P.S. I was wondering if you use flash for your eye closeups.. your pictures always look so clear and bright. Oh and I just bought the blush last week.. online items are selling out fast!

Thanks!

Christine Avatar

Thanks, Kali!

I do – I always use some flash when I do close-ups. I find without a really, really amazing lighting environment, without flash, it looks so different than it does in person. I basically do whatever settings it takes to get it to look like it does in real life!

Sarah M Avatar

Amazing. I just commented on the previous look, saying I loved the colours on you but I have to say the same on this one too. Lol. You can do no wrong! 🙂

Beto Kylie Avatar

Blue is sooooo my favorite color!!! I’m so certain because I LOVE this!!!! Baby blue, bright blue, royal blue, indigo…!!! I’m in love with blues!

Violet Avatar

That’s absolutely gorgeous! I love blue eyeshadow and I am so glad you do looks like these – there’s definitely a popular idea that blue eyeshadow is for little old ladies or is too 80’s, and people don’t wear it — this is what they’re missing out on!

Aida Avatar

So, so, very bright, I thought, but when I saw the whole look, it actually looks pretty or you’re one of the few people that can pull of such a bright look and not look cheap at all! Are you loving the MUFE HD foundation?

Christine Avatar

Thanks, Aida!

I like MUFE HD, but I don’t love it. I don’t think it looks very amazing in person (it’s nice, but it’s not my first choice) – it photographs nicely, so I’ve been trying to get through my bottle when I don’t plan on wearing it for long (I did this look before I took a shower this morning, lol!).

Sum Avatar

beautifulll! i love the look christine 🙂 thanks so much ur suchhh an inspiration! oh and jus a small request…did u stop doing YT tutorials? they were my absolute fav!!! it would be great if u could do them for this look and the green one before this…if u have time 🙂 otherwise its ok…luv ya!

Norma Avatar

Im loving all these bright fun looks on you!
hmm when i swatched prim & proper i thought it was too dark but now that i see it on you its actually very nice = ]

Rosanna Avatar

Love it! but…..Aww……………..now you make me want to get MAC Winkle and Atlantic eyeshadow when I tried so hard to justify not getting anymore blue eyeshadows….

Emm Avatar

Aw Christine you look stunning!!
I love this look on you, it makes your face radiate!
Love love blues!!
I’m blonde though and sometimes I think it can look a bit too much on blondes compared to brunettes…or maybe I’m just wrong, lol I often think it suits dark hair better.

Shamini Avatar

This look looks awesome on you! Peachstock is my all-time favorite “nude” lipstick for me (and my skin tone), and I just love how the complete look glows on you! Gorgeous. Now I need to find myself a Sky Blue, and buy Atlantic Blue – I want to recreate it! 🙂

Have a super day, C.!

Cassandra Rae Ferguson Avatar

Simply gorgeous! I love vivid eye colour (then again, being a makeup artist, I would, wouldn’t I?)

I agree that we should all experiment and have fun with bright colour in makeup! But if you feel that you cannot quite pull it off, try a small hint of vivid colour teamed up with neutrals at first. The most important thing is that you have fun and feel comfortable with doing so!

Thanks for the post and for encouraging others to have fun with makeup!

Saira Avatar

Oh, I love this! It really makes your eye colour pop. You’ve inspired me to get out my blue eyeshadows and do some experimenting! I got Atlantic Blue recently, so this gives me some ideas for colour pairings. Love Winkle eyeshadow – might have to check that one out!

Hilana Avatar

Wow, this is hot. I love how it looks on you! Awesome~! What do you think about trying this look with blue eyes? You think it will look wrong? I am very light skinned with blue eyes and blonde hair. You think this look will work for me?

Christine Avatar

Thank you, Hilana!

I think it could 🙂 You know how there are certain looks that are more flattering than others, but it’s not that you look bad in something else? I think you would look good in blues, but maybe not as good as greens or browns, you know? Which basically means try it & see!

Kathy Avatar

Wow. This is gorgeous!

I think I’m going to visit my closest MAC counter to get Peachstock and Frankly Fresh. They’re the most gorgeous lip colors I’ve seen in a while!

Stef Avatar

Everyone’s always so afraid of blue, but this looks so amazing! You got it absolutely right. Somehow, I think brunettes may be able to pull them off more. I love blues, but every time I wear them I look a bit…disco (I’m blonde). But I wear them anyway!

And Peachstock, love! I’m a new convert and I wonder where it’s been all my life?

jellynat Avatar

That swimming pool blue is perfect with the color of your eyes the blue/peach combo is particularly beautiful with your warm skin tone. Well done, mademoiselle! It’s so full of summer already. I don’t think I could wear this make up with cool toned and fair skin! Yet I still love it. Do you think a NW15 (considering that NW is still too yellow for me) could wear a peach lipstick?

Oh and I see that your hair is starting to have a seriously good length! It’s so long to have it long but it’s worthy. 🙂

calico Avatar

Wow! I thought this would lookSilly until I saw the whole look! It looks so good on you!
You rock that! Lucky thing.

I hope you wear that out cos you pull it off better than anyone I’ve ever seen!

Take that Paula! (and I am a big beautypedia fan!)

Jasmine Avatar

Forever my favorite look from you Christine. This is beyond amazing. I am writing everything down and will buy everything from this look. It’s like…neon!

Jackie Avatar

This is SO pretty! It’s bright without being overpowering. Great combo with the more neutral lip and cheeks! I always feel like I can’t wear such pretty blues like this because of my coloring and blue eyes…on you it is so fabulous! Bravo! I’m jealous 😉
