Bright Makeup: So Blue, So, So, Blue!
Bright Makeup: So Blue, So, So, Blue!
I thought about doing a mix of blue and some other color (was leaning towards purple), but then I thought, “It’s been awhile since I’ve done *all* blue, hasn’t it?” and then this was created. The blues I used almost look like they’re glowing in the close-up photos, which is kind of cool! 🙂
Don’t be afraid of color — try it at home! If you don’t love it, you can always wash it off. Also a must? Make funny faces in the mirror if you’re not comfortable with wearing those bright colors. It should be fun, so have fun! 🙂
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Clear Sky Blue Pigment (PRO) (matte sky blue as a base), MAC Sky Blue Eyeshadow (PRO) (sky blue), MAC Winkle Eyeshadow (matte powder blue), MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow (matte bright blue), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (brightened dark blue), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), Milani Liquif’Eye Silver Eyeliner (silver), MAC Blue Herizon Liquidlast Liner (blue), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Setting Powder
- Cheeks: MAC Prim & Proper Blush (pink-nude)
- Lips: MAC Peachstock Lipstick (peach-nude), MAC Frankly Fresh Lipglass (peach-nude)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom; Prim & Proper = Tenderling; Frankly Fresh = C-Thru
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Clear Sky Blue pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Sky Blue eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Winkle eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Electric Eel eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. With the 219, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease, and then use the 226 to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant eyeliner on the outer lower lash line with Silver eyeliner on the inner lash line, then Atlantic Blue eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. On the upper lash line, apply Blue Herizon liquidlast liner and smudge with Atlantic Blue eyeshadow and the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.
For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Peachstock lipstick first, and then layer Frankly Fresh lipglass for a complementing lip.
That looks very Nice C.
Thank you!!
I’ve been doing blue shadow all week after glowyjoeybunny (on twitter) and I had a short conversation about being afraid of blue shadow. But even after wearing blue in different ways for a week I don’t think I’d have the guts for this one!
I may have to link to this look as an example of ultimate daring when I am finished logging my blue-phobia progress. 🙂
Are you making funny faces? ‘Cause seriously, I just make fun of myself in the mirror and then it’s like, “oh, yeah, this is fun!”
Wow, I didn’t think much of it until I saw the face shot, it is so pretty and fresh! Love the whole look. I love the blush and lip combo.. Yay
Thanks so much, Natalie 🙂
Amazingly stunning. Blue always appeals me so much, if I lose control, I’ll always end up buying too many blue e/s that I rarely use.
Thanks, Az!
LOL, been there… done that!
Love it! So bright & summery. =)
Thank you, Allie!
This look is gorgeous on you! The blue really brings out your brown eyes.
Thank ya, Kathryn!
yep , i am doing this look
Yay!
So bright, blues look beautiful on you! I’m loving the lip combo too!
Thanks, Marce!
Oooh…so lovely! I am in love with those vibrant blue colors. I just bought Peachstock and its my new fav lipstick. Its nice to see it in one of your gorgeous looks! =)
Thanks so much, Casey 🙂 Peachstock is great!
Pretty! I love Peachstock lipstick, I can’t believe I didn’t pick it up until the Liberty of London collection!
Thanks! I know what you mean!
love all the blue! and great pair with the peachstock. i think i will try out a look like this tomorrow.
Thanks a lot, Claudine! I hope you try it & love it!
Gotta love the website!! I like the look. I have the blush and lips. I get so many ideas from from you. Have a good day..
Thank you so much, Abbie 😀 Have a great day yourself!
Oh sooo gorgeous! The blue and peach combination suit your hair and skin colour so well, and the blue really brings out your eyes. Love it! 🙂 (I may just end up wearing some blue eyeshadow and peach-nude lips, ofc an office-appropriate version of it. I have a meeting. 🙁 )
Thank you so much 😀
I’m so jealous that peachstock looks so good on you!
Aw!
I love it, do you think this lip combo is close to brave new bronze? thanks!
Thanks, Christine!
It’s not quite as pink, but it’s similar.
Gorgeous!
Thanks, Kelsey!
this is so bright and pretty. I love it on you. Peachstoke did not work for me (I’m NW25), but I do love Myth as my nude lipstick so I will try this out 🙂
Thanks a lot, Sandy! I could see Peachstock being a little warm while Myth would be cooler and work better on NW!
Wow! That’s very pretty it suits you so well. I love how you use products from new collections in your looks. It’s nice to see the products on a full face 🙂
Thanks, Heather! 🙂 I try, LOL. I figure I better use them while they’re new and relevant, because in a few weeks, they’re sold out and nobody cares!
so beautiful
I would never have the confidence to wear this out but I do admire those who do 🙂
Thanks, Hannah!
Aww, wear it around the house — just for fun 🙂
I love this look on! gorgeous..now I want peach stock!! I already have ever hip, but this so much more toned down!
Thanks so much! 😀
Breathtakingly beautiful!!! Your color palette is so balanced and composed – the overall look is fresh and pretty, not overdone. I LOVE IT!!!!
Aww, thank you, Nicky!
Beauuuutiful! The blues do look like they are glowing! I also really love the cheeks & lips. I went into MAC & wanted peach blush & lipstick, and the girl applied Peaches blush and Shy Girl lipstick on me. They are nice, but I like these better!
Aw, thanks so much, Steph 😀
Ah, pretty pretty! So bright and fun. How about that purple look?
Seriously, I LOVE this look! When I saw the closeup, I thought it was just the same colour all over the lid and I was like ‘All those products just for that?’, but then I saw the full-face shot and it’s so stunning! The colours all really stand out and come into their own. Gorgeous.
LOL! I always say… if you have ’em, use ’em! You can always make do with less, but it’s hard to keep myself from using multiple products at once!
Thank you, Frances!
Wow, that really is BLUE! 😛 Such a pretty look on you. 🙂 Wish I could pull off colors like that.
LOL, tell me about it!
Thank you!
ooh dang girl, that’s stunning
Thanks, Bettina!
I never ceased to be amazed at how great bold & bright colours look on you. I’m always a little shy of bright blues (NW 15 and light blue eyes), but this makes me awnt to give it a shot…
Thanks, KFM! Give it a shot 😀
Gorgeous ! I rarely wear blue e/s because I feel it doesn’t suit me much but it’s wow on you !!
And, on a side note, the mascara looks really good … I now want to try it !
Thank you, Margot!
i completely LOVE this whole look! Will definitely recreate for a night out 🙂 Thanks Christine!
Yay!! So happy you’ll give it a try, Alyssamae!
so pretty! i LOVE blue eyeshadow 🙂
Thanks, Dusty! The LC review is coming, I swear… but probably Friday/Saturday, lol.
Great look Christine. Blue is my favorite color so big thumbs up from me. I think I need to go to the pro store and buy Sky Blue. I never noticed it before.
By the way, I love the way MUFE HD looks on you. I remember you not being too crazy about it, but I like it. 🙂
Thanks so much, Shontay! 🙂
It looks about 5x better in photographs than it does in real life, IMO, which is why I wasn’t loving it. I mean, it’s great that it looks nice in photos, but I want it to look that good in person, too!
Blue has always been my favorite color on you! Gorgeous. Kinda funny: earlier this week I did a look using silver, bright turquoise and dark blue. I had never worn blue before so it was quite an experience! I just thought to myself, “Christine would soooo do this! Just go for it!”. And so I did 🙂 I guess great minds think alike, huh? 😉
YAYYY! I am so glad you just went for it, Roxanne! 🙂
OMG this is f-ing AWESOME! lol I can never wear that much blue on my eyes
Thanks, HC!
Aww, why not?!
Wow, this is gorgeous, Christine! I wore blue on Monday too, used Cornflower pigment as base, Suave Intention in the inner corner plus above the crease, Contrast (the dark blue from Rose is a rose quad) in the crease, Cornflower in the middle and below lower lashline, Solar White to highlight below browbone, the bright blue L’Oreal HIP eyeliner on lower waterline/lashline, and paired it with Stereo Rose MSF on the cheeks and Color Me Coral lipstick with Cha Cha lipglass on top. Now I regret not taking any photos as it looked really good. Love Cornflower, it’s such a gorgeous blue shade! 🙂
Thanks, Anita! It sounds gorgeous… you better take photos next time!!
Gorgeous! Monochromatic eyes have been my favorite lately. Simple byt still pretty.
Thank you, Jillian!
Looks gorgeous!! I’m still scared of using blue eyeshadow but i love it on other people!
Aww, you should try it! Just wear it around the house 🙂
Thanks, Amanda!
I looooove this look on you – SO so pretty on your brown eyes! :]
Also, I like how the gold tones in Femme-Fi kind of contrast a little with the blues, very pretty!
Thank you, Annie!
I always love the way your looks go. You’re so beautiful and it’s always a treat to see what you come up with. I love the blush and lips combos you do. It really helps me figure out what to do with my looks as well.
Thank you so much, Leah 🙂 Always happy to help!
So bright and fun! Love it! 😀
Thanks a lot, Catherine!
I have to say, you can pull off so many colors, from the most sheer to the most bold! Good for you!
Thanks, Sarah!
This is really pretty. I really need to do some blue looks & I REALLY need sky blue e/s
Thank ya, Andrea!
how comes, that EVERY color looks good on you? 🙂
when i saw first the closeup photo, i was thinking “ohno, no one can wear that blue”. but it looks amazing on you!
Haha! Close-ups are always fun, but see it from afar always does the trick 🙂
omg so bold and fun! looove it!
Thanks, Laura!
This is gorgeous!
Man, looks like this make me wish my eyes were brown so I could pull off the bright blues and greens – I have green eyes and it seems like the only colours that look good are browns and golds. 😛 Ah well!
Thanks, J!
Aw, try it, have fun with it 😀
Your eyes look amazing!! The peachstock lipstick is my new favorite nude it looks awesome on you.
Thank you, Diana!
This look is so pretty 😀
Thanks, Kristina!
Omg!!! My favorite blue look ever! It’s great Christine!
Thank you, Elysia!
I always thought that blue is the most difficult color to pull off but you seem to be so gorgeous wearing it. 🙂
Nah, no way! Yellow is way harder 🙂
OMG, it is soo blue and wonderful and blue and everything :O I love it <3 🙂 Me want everything.
Thanks a lot, Emilie!
Wow! I think I’m blind now!! Haha, you look amazing. I must say, that lippie is perfect on you!
LOL!!
Thanks, Anna!
Looks great on you! I like how the e/s, cheeks, and lips are so well paired:p
Thank you, Megan!
Hi Christine!
Wow, this is beautiful. I will want to try this look myself. I have a question: Do you mostly/only use the mixing medium with pigments? I want to buy it for better application of pigments but wanted to know if you have other uses for it as well?
Thank you.
Thank you, Mirna!
Yeah, I pretty much just use it with pigments 🙂 You could use it for mascara/eyeliner, though I know MAC also has a mixing medium for eyeliner.
you were right, that’s soooo blue and so blue in a good way!!! very pretty!!!
Thank you, Luisafer!
That was very blue 🙂
Thanks, Emma 🙂
Looks amazing as always! Glad you went with “all blue” actually.
P.S. I was wondering if you use flash for your eye closeups.. your pictures always look so clear and bright. Oh and I just bought the blush last week.. online items are selling out fast!
Thanks!
Thanks, Kali!
I do – I always use some flash when I do close-ups. I find without a really, really amazing lighting environment, without flash, it looks so different than it does in person. I basically do whatever settings it takes to get it to look like it does in real life!
Wow, it’s like you took a dab of clear blue sky and brushed it on your eyes! It’s gorgeous and sooooo vibrant!
Aww! Thanks, Crystal 🙂
Amazing. I just commented on the previous look, saying I loved the colours on you but I have to say the same on this one too. Lol. You can do no wrong! 🙂
Thanks a lot, Sarah M! 😀
I’m in love with this look <3 Definitely one of my favs!!! Truly a beautiful job, Christine, Well done!
Thank you, Danielle!
Blue is sooooo my favorite color!!! I’m so certain because I LOVE this!!!! Baby blue, bright blue, royal blue, indigo…!!! I’m in love with blues!
Haha, blues are great!
Thanks, Beto Kylie!
That’s absolutely gorgeous! I love blue eyeshadow and I am so glad you do looks like these – there’s definitely a popular idea that blue eyeshadow is for little old ladies or is too 80’s, and people don’t wear it — this is what they’re missing out on!
Thanks, Violet! 🙂
So, so, very bright, I thought, but when I saw the whole look, it actually looks pretty or you’re one of the few people that can pull of such a bright look and not look cheap at all! Are you loving the MUFE HD foundation?
Thanks, Aida!
I like MUFE HD, but I don’t love it. I don’t think it looks very amazing in person (it’s nice, but it’s not my first choice) – it photographs nicely, so I’ve been trying to get through my bottle when I don’t plan on wearing it for long (I did this look before I took a shower this morning, lol!).
Wow that makes me cry to think that you wiped this all off after the pictures :'(. RIP Gorgeous Blue Look
LOL! I wore it for maybe an hour or two 🙂 I get up early but don’t shower til a few hours after I wake up (more because I get distracted/busy than anything else).
beautifulll! i love the look christine 🙂 thanks so much ur suchhh an inspiration! oh and jus a small request…did u stop doing YT tutorials? they were my absolute fav!!! it would be great if u could do them for this look and the green one before this…if u have time 🙂 otherwise its ok…luv ya!
Thank you, Sum!
No, I didn’t – sometimes I just don’t have time – it’s been really hectic as it was midterms/finals!
I love it!!! your eyes pop and your lips look so pretty :)!
Thanks a lot, Ivette!
Gosh, your eyes are an absolutely stunning kaleidoscope of green/amber!
Thank you, Linda!
BEAUTIFULL.
Thanks, Melissa!
Im loving all these bright fun looks on you!
hmm when i swatched prim & proper i thought it was too dark but now that i see it on you its actually very nice = ]
Thank you, Norma 😀
i hate it how any look imaginable u can pull off!
so unfair(; i love this on u<3
Aww!
But thank you, Virgg!
This is perfect,Christine!
Thank you, Whirl!
Haha my goodness I felt like your eyes were popping off my monitor soooooo bright! 😀
Haha!
Love it! but…..Aww……………..now you make me want to get MAC Winkle and Atlantic eyeshadow when I tried so hard to justify not getting anymore blue eyeshadows….
LOL! They are permanent at least, so you can wait on ’em 🙂
I love, love, love, love it! Oh, Christine, you did a wonderful job. And it looks really good on you, not overdone at all :).
Thank you, Rosie 😀
One of my favourite looks from you! So, SO pretty! And your hair looks so healthy!
Wow!
Thank you, Nadine!
Healthy hair happens when you are too lazy to do *anything* to your hair, LOL.
GIRL! That is gorgeous!
Thanks, Angelique!
Wow, i am speechless, this look is sooo beautiful and peachstock is my favorite lipstick. Thank you Christine!!!!
Aw, thanks a lot, Natasha!
so so blue is right but soo pretty on you 🙂
Thank you, Abby!
Beautiful, just beautiful!
Thanks, Lana!
Wow, Peachstock looks really beautiful on your skin… me, not so much lol
Aww!! Try using a cool pink gloss to make it cooler if that’s what you need!
this is the best look you’ve ever done…please do a video on it
Thanks, Haley!
First green and then blue. You are on a roll with colors. I love how you kept the lips and cheeks complimentary to the eyes. Gorgeous look.
Thank you, Shivani!
Aw Christine you look stunning!!
I love this look on you, it makes your face radiate!
Love love blues!!
I’m blonde though and sometimes I think it can look a bit too much on blondes compared to brunettes…or maybe I’m just wrong, lol I often think it suits dark hair better.
Thanks, Emm! 🙂
It could be or maybe you’re just not used to seeing it on you & it’s like, “WHOA!” since it is pretty potent!
oh my..! in the last pic it seems like you have the ocean on your eyelids!!! 🙂
gooorgeous!! 🙂
Thanks a lot, Aaj!
This looks exceptional, and the lip colour goes fantastically well with the blues. I always love your looks, especially this one.
Thank you, Caitlin!
This look looks awesome on you! Peachstock is my all-time favorite “nude” lipstick for me (and my skin tone), and I just love how the complete look glows on you! Gorgeous. Now I need to find myself a Sky Blue, and buy Atlantic Blue – I want to recreate it! 🙂
Have a super day, C.!
Peachstock is a great nude 🙂
Thanks a lot, Shamini!
Simply gorgeous! I love vivid eye colour (then again, being a makeup artist, I would, wouldn’t I?)
I agree that we should all experiment and have fun with bright colour in makeup! But if you feel that you cannot quite pull it off, try a small hint of vivid colour teamed up with neutrals at first. The most important thing is that you have fun and feel comfortable with doing so!
Thanks for the post and for encouraging others to have fun with makeup!
Thanks, Cassandra Rae! 😉 There are some makeup artists who don’t like vivid color, actually – I’ve met a few who found brighter/vivid color garish or clownish.
Goes well with the lipstick. Nice looking blue shades too! reminds me of the ocean.
Thanks, Nicci! 😀
Oh, I love this! It really makes your eye colour pop. You’ve inspired me to get out my blue eyeshadows and do some experimenting! I got Atlantic Blue recently, so this gives me some ideas for colour pairings. Love Winkle eyeshadow – might have to check that one out!
Thank you, Saira! 🙂 Winkle is SO gorgeous!!
Wow, this is hot. I love how it looks on you! Awesome~! What do you think about trying this look with blue eyes? You think it will look wrong? I am very light skinned with blue eyes and blonde hair. You think this look will work for me?
Thank you, Hilana!
I think it could 🙂 You know how there are certain looks that are more flattering than others, but it’s not that you look bad in something else? I think you would look good in blues, but maybe not as good as greens or browns, you know? Which basically means try it & see!
it looks great on you. i am nc20 and don;t know whether Id look good but you can pull it off.
Thanks a lot, Leinti! 🙂
You could!!
Wow. This is gorgeous!
I think I’m going to visit my closest MAC counter to get Peachstock and Frankly Fresh. They’re the most gorgeous lip colors I’ve seen in a while!
Thank you, Kathy!
Everyone’s always so afraid of blue, but this looks so amazing! You got it absolutely right. Somehow, I think brunettes may be able to pull them off more. I love blues, but every time I wear them I look a bit…disco (I’m blonde). But I wear them anyway!
And Peachstock, love! I’m a new convert and I wonder where it’s been all my life?
Glad to hear you wear ’em anyway, Stef 😀
Beautiful!!
Thanks a lot, Alice!
Very gorgeous look! If only I was brave enough..
Thanks, Maria! Aw, wear it around the house a few times 😀
That swimming pool blue is perfect with the color of your eyes the blue/peach combo is particularly beautiful with your warm skin tone. Well done, mademoiselle! It’s so full of summer already. I don’t think I could wear this make up with cool toned and fair skin! Yet I still love it. Do you think a NW15 (considering that NW is still too yellow for me) could wear a peach lipstick?
Oh and I see that your hair is starting to have a seriously good length! It’s so long to have it long but it’s worthy. 🙂
Thank you!! 🙂 I think you could, really! You might find that if you pair it with cooler eyeshadows or blushes that it works 🙂
you look amazing Christine! i am now itching for pale/light blue eyeshadows. ;D
Thanks so much 🙂
Wow! I thought this would lookSilly until I saw the whole look! It looks so good on you!
You rock that! Lucky thing.
I hope you wear that out cos you pull it off better than anyone I’ve ever seen!
Take that Paula! (and I am a big beautypedia fan!)
I tried something like this a while ago. It didn’t work out as well for me, ha ha–you rock it!
Thanks, Helena!
Very bold! You always look great in blue. Nice work.
Thank you, Fredsonic!
very well done
Thank you, Melissa!
I love it, Chris!
Thanks so much, Sash! Hope you’re well!
Omg it really is blue! 😀
LOL, yes, yes indeed 🙂
Forever my favorite look from you Christine. This is beyond amazing. I am writing everything down and will buy everything from this look. It’s like…neon!
Aw, thanks again, Jasmine!
Wow that;s blue! Really pretty , what are the colors you used? is it already mentioned somewhere and I cant see ,LOL?
This looks stunning on you! I love that lip combo on you. I would never have the balls to wear this, but you make it look tempting.
Thank you, Arrianne!
This is SO pretty! It’s bright without being overpowering. Great combo with the more neutral lip and cheeks! I always feel like I can’t wear such pretty blues like this because of my coloring and blue eyes…on you it is so fabulous! Bravo! I’m jealous 😉
Thank you, Jackie! 🙂 You should try it!
