Bobbi Brown Black Ruby High Shimmer Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Bobbi Brown Black Ruby High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Black Ruby High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “crimson with gold pearl.” It’s a semi-opaque, vibrant ruby red base with gold shimmer. Chanel Triomphal is more opaque and has pink shimmer. MAC Sonoran Rain is warmer. MAC Driven by Love is rdder, less sparkly. YSL Golden Red is warmer. I can’t wait to wear this during the holidays–I can be very traditional sometimes, and in the case of the holidays, I love a red lip with gold shimmer). I love how the red is a deeper kind of red–it’s not a bright, cherry red, and it’s not strongly blue-based, yet it isn’t orange-based, either. It’s just barely cool-toned, with a berry/wine kind of pull, and it can be harder to find gold-shimmered reds that aren’t orange-based.
For a gloss that’s not quite opaque and this dark, it applied rather evenly–you don’t notice any unevenness at a normal viewing distance, just in the up-close and personal lip photos (which are, of course, larger than life). I really can’t say it enough: these are my favorite glosses. At the moment, I have three or four of them in my purse (I just came back from traveling). When I went down to Irvine, CA for my sister’s graduation last weekend, I didn’t even bother pulling lipsticks for the trip–I knew I’d just wear these. More often than not, if I’m not testing something, I’m probably wearing this formula.
It’s comfortable to wear, moisturizing, has the loveliest sparkle, and they wear well on me. With Black Ruby, it lasted for four and a half hours. The texture isn’t too thick or too thin, non-sticky, and have a mint-scented. They come in black-capped clear tubes with a doe-foot applicator.

This is really pretty, but with the name “Black Ruby”, I would expect it to be deeper & darker.
this is gorgeous!
O wow, perfect for the fall and winter months <3 It looks lighter in the tube O:
I never do lipglosses — never. But, if I were to suddenly change my mind, this would be the FIRST one I’d buy!! A simply gorgeous, gorgeous colour. And with such depth, too! It looks fabulous on you, Christine. Sexy but in a more subtle way (if that makes any sense). I’m looking for more berry/wine coloured matte lipsticks these days and so wish NARS would do a colour like this, esp. with that gold shimmer. <sigh>
Bobby Brown is coming out with some kick a$$ products .. I love your post featuring the Desert Twilight Collection for Fall 2012. I’m for sure going to check out this lip gloss 🙂
It looks like a gloss best applied lightly over a lipstick, it looks rather uneven (due to the glitter) on its own. Great shade though!! Very rich.
Loving this!
why 9.5 for pigmentation?
Slightly uneven 🙂
So far, this is the only High Shimmer lip gloss I’ve picked up, but I love it. Alongside my Armani glosses, this is the one I reach for the most often. I love how much impact it has for a gloss and how much depth the shimmer brings.
What a gorgeous red! It does look a little uneven in the close ups but perfectly good from a distance!
OMG *runs to the store*
It looks gorgeous, but I’m probably going to pass on it. I bought a Bobbi Brown gloss from Nordstrom and had to exchange it for something else the next day, since it only lasted 10 minutes before I had to reapply! I’ll stick with Buxom, Bare Minerals, and Laura Mercier glosses.
Wow. That looks beautiful on you. I really like it. As a rule I don’t pay $23 for lipgloss though, so I’ll pass.
wow, that is high impact!! Bobbi makes such amazing glosses! I’m glad they are finally getting so much recognition!!
This is amazing. I’m going to check these glosses out the next time I’m going shopping. Sounds like a fantastic product and a decent price!
WWOOWW!!! This is gorgeous! Ive never tried this line of glosses. BUT I will not be walking past the Bobbi Brown counter without checking this out!
This is gorgeous. I prefer Chanel Glossimer to Bobbi Brown but I like these glosses a lot, enough that I have a few on my shopping list 🙂 I think I need to add this one, esp. for fall and winter!
Does anyone know if this is similar to Stila’s Cherry Pie lip glaze?
Beautiful color!
Whoaaa…, without Chanel Dragon this year, I will definitely use this lipgloss over Face Atelier Revenge or M·A·C Mattene Unknown Pleasures this holiday!!! Is it to soon if I purchase it now, no? *LOL*
Anyway, do you experience any gritty-ness feeling, Christine?
Thanks!
@Adelita Nope, no grittiness!
@Christine (Temptalia) Wow, that’s a HUGE plus! I will definitely stop by the Bobbi Brown counter to try this on next time I go to the mall.
Thanks Christine!
Hmm, my Smashbox gloss in Lust looks like that on me. It’s pretty much the only full-on red lip I’ll do.
That’s BEAUTIFUL! Will be great for the holidays this year! 🙂
LOVE this
This is incredibly gorgeous!! I definitely want it. Thanks for the amazing lip and full face swatches/looks, they are so helpful!
Wow, that looks like lipstick & lipgloss. Is it sticky? I’ve had a problem with sticky Bobbi Brown glosses. And does it have a minty effect? It’s such a gorgeous color!
@Budziak Not sticky to me! Mint-scented, though.
Bought this tonight, thanks for the review!
I just ordered a couple of these.Trying to quit Dazzleglass..haha. I used to love MAC Dazzleglass, but the small amount of product disappears so quickly after just a handful of applications it seems. I feel like they are not a good value at all.
I hope you love these, Beck! These are a way better value 🙂
