Bobbi Brown Black Cocoa Metallic Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
Bobbi Brown Black Cocoa Metallic Eyeshadow
Try a Little Warm Cocoa for Fall
Bobbi Brown Black Cocoa Metallic Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a rich, chocolate brown with flecks of pale gold, gold, and copper shimmer. It has such a smooth texture with incredible color pay off that really just looks luxurious when worn. This shade would work well for a brown smoky eye as well as smudged on the lower lash line to add warmth to the eyes. I love this on warmer beauties, though it has that blackened cocoa laced with the warmer brown, so it could also be worn by those on the cooler side, too.
I also love that $20 will get you 0.10 oz. of eyeshadow–double the amount of most single shadows! This particular shade launched with Bobbi Brown’s Black Velvet Collection, but it is permanent to the line.

How would you compare it to NARS Galapagos (if you have that)?
Looks pretty!
I don’t think it’s a dupe – it’s darker, richer, and has a totally different finish – lots of shimmer, metallic sheen. Galapagos looks flat and muted in comparison, IMO.

This is SUCH a gorgeous color, but I just can’t justify spending $20 on a single pan 🙁 Is there a slightly cheaper dupe out there? MAC?
Hey Rachel,
I think I put it in the FAQ, but the only dupe I could think of was NARS Mekong, which isn’t quite a dupe, since it’s darker.
Is it not like nars galapagos?
I don’t think so – it’s darker and has SO much more shimmer, the finish is quite different – http://www.temptalia.com/nars-eyeshadow-singles-swatches
I adore this color! I have NARS Mekong, but it doesn’t get used all the time because it is so dramatic. I could use this Bobbi Brown one more regularly. Thanks for the swatches and post FAQ. Very helpful!
This is a very pretty shade. Christine, do you think it’s similar to the dark side of Nars Cordura at all? To me it looks like a dupe of that
I looked through all my NARS swatches, and Mekong was the only one I felt was remotely similar, so I wouldn’t say Cordura is a dupe.
I think I need to revisit these. When I had gone to the BB counter and tried them out the only way I could get the color to show was on top of her kohl liners and I didn’t feel like covering my lid in eyeliner just to get some color. lol
Whoa! That is weird. This was SO rich and pigmented! I hope you have better luck!
Were you swatching from a tester? I’ve started taking a tissue or cotton round, whatever they have on hand and wiping off the top layer of shadow where I want to swatch since sometimes it’s gotten hard or it’s got alcohol on it from being sanitized after a makeover, etc.
I concur! Testers can get really gross after awhile – hardened or pushed down from the oil on fingers… it sucks, but sometimes it happens!
This is really lovely! Bobbi Brown products don’t usually do much for me, but it’s such a luxurious, unusual shade.
Ooh, thanks! This colour is right up my alley. Will definitely check it out.
Oh this is such a rich and beautiful colour. I just love browns & plums anyway but this one is especially nice!
My name is all over this gorgeous shade. Thanks for the review, Christine!
What a fantastic brown! But I’ve also been looking for a good beige, but everything I swatch seems to show up bronze or a dusty maroon. Dior’s old Beige Sunshine seemed to be the best beige I’d seen. Christine, would you please help me find a close dupe in MAC?
I don’t know what that shade looks like, sorry!
Gorgeous, really!
This is just GORGEOUS!
Is this shade complementary for dark skin tones, AA?
I think so!
Hi Christine,
I know this isn’t entirely relevant, but I was wondering if you could help me out! My Mother is looking for some really good quality dark brown/brown/dark chocolate eye shadows to try, and I was wondering if you could give me examples of the best ones you’ve come across in your experience to give us an idea! She’d prefer something that’s not too glittery/sparkly/frosted. I’d really appreciate the help – I missed the last Ask Temptalia so I couldn’t ask you then. >_<
