Bite Beauty Watercolor Lipgloss Library
Bite Beauty Watercolor Lipgloss Library ($49.00 for 12 x 0.05 oz. / 0.60 oz. total) is a set of twelve lipglosses “inspired by watercolor’s ethereal beauty.” The gloss formula is supposed to be sheer and hydrating. The pigmentation actually varies a lot within the set; some shades are sheer, others are more semi-opaque and almost opaque at times. The formula is medium-thick, very tacky, and has a citrus-like scent but no discernible taste to me. I think the set has a lovely presentation, but the formula is all over the place, and inconsistency is one of the worst things to find in a range. Some shades went on smoothly and evenly, while others were streaky, clung to any and all imperfections, and looked messy applied. I found the majority to be so tacky that it was difficult to spread out the gloss across the lips without pulling at the lip. I wish more brands would describe their colors individually, and use descriptors like “sheer” and “full coverage” to indicate colors that are a little different than the standard shade in the formula. This set was a total miss for me, and I really wish I could have said otherwise.
One (Watercolor) is a pale, light yellow that almost has a green tinge. It had a creamy, glossy finish with a heavier consistency that still managed to settle into every single line on my lips. It had sheer pigmentation but applied horribly. It lasted for three hours and was lightly hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Two (Watercolor) is is a very light pink with cool, blue-gray undertones and a cream finish. It was semi-opaque, but it settles into lip lines and almost “clumps” at times. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating, but it progressively settled into lip lines as it wore. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Three (Watercolor) is a muted, light-medium pink with gray tones and a cream finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that went on somewhat evenly–better than the previous two–but still looked a bit streaky. It wore well for three hours and was lightly hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Four (Watercolor) is a brightened, light-medium purple lavender with cool undertones and a cream finish. It’s such a shame–it is such a cool color that you don’t see often, yet it applies so poorly, with streaky, uneven color that migrates into lip lines from the initial application and simply worsens as it wears for the next three hours. At least it was a little hydrating! See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Five (Watercolor) is a light, minty green with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. It had sheer coverage on the lips, but it was thicker and milky enough where it tended to sit in lip lines, though it wasn’t as bad as some of the other shades. It wore well for two and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Six (Watercolor) is a brightened, pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. This was far from sheer, as it was nearly opaque on the lips. It applied fairly evenly and smoothly with only a little bit of gloss getting into the lip lines. The gloss itself lasted for almost six hours on, but it did pull into lip lines towards the last two hours of wear. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Seven (Watercolor) is a brightened red with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly and smoothly. This shade lasted for five hours on me and was moderately hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Eight (Watercolor) is is a muted, medium orange with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage that went on smoothly for the most part. It lasted for four hours and was hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Nine (Watercolor) is a pink-tinted berry with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff, but it didn’t apply evenly. It looked splotchy on me, though it lasted for four hours and was moisturizing. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Ten (Watercolor) is a brightened, medium pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. This shade had semi-opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly and stayed on for four and a half hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Eleven (Watercolor) is a bold, bright fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation–you can tell there’s still some translucency, but it appears more opaque to the eye at a glance because it is so bright, I think. It applied evenly for the most part, but the application could still have been better. The color lasted for five hours on me. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Twelve (Watercolor) is a medium-dark purple with a hint of pink and a cream finish. It had sheer coverage, but it looked so uneven/blotchy on the lips. It lasted for three hours on me. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I had to scroll through all those disappointing swatches just so I could keep gawking over that eye look. Love it!
LOL! I was SO SO SOOOOOOO planning for SHEER gloss, and then I was like, “OK, this is going to be an experiment in how lip color will change your look.” I originally wanted to redo the swatches, but the set was so disappointing + I got busy with UD that I said forget it!
I’m glad you didn’t redo the swatches (maybe I should have phrased that differently) the swatches are disappointing because the GLOSSES are disappointing. Your swatching skills are awesome. I don’t think you could have helped them look better even if you tried.
I love that this ended up being an experiment because it really shows how much a gloss (even a super sheer disappointment gloss) can really change the whole makeup look.
Oh, no! I didn’t think you meant that, LOL! I was more worried at how bold/bright the eyes were vs. how pigmented some of these ended up being, haha. I expected pretty sheer color and didn’t think it would compete so much!
Thank you!! 🙂
Me too! Halfway through I actually forgot to look at the lips, LOL, all I could do was stare at that gorgeous green eyeshadow combo!
<3
Same!! Your eyes always get me! Always soooo pretty!!
Thank you, Karen!
Same! That eyelook is STUNNING on you!:) Love it!
Thank you, Britta!
Thanks for the review – this is such a disappointment for me. I really was looking forward to the concept of this set for spring and I love the Bite gloss in Currant, but I’m going to pass on this one.
No problem, Averymae! 🙂 It’s so pretty in theory, but boy, it was a real let-down in practice!
I am so upset that these are such a disappointment :-/ The colors look so beautiful, it’s a shame that doesn’t transfer onto the lips!
Aww! 🙁
So disappointing.
Your eye look is stunning! Love it.
Thanks, Rachel!
Oh well, at least the packaging is nice to look at.
That’s looking on the bright side 😉
I didn’t have high hopes for the pale colors, but to not get the darker colors right is shocking. On the plus side, your eyeshadow is gorgeous!
Thanks, Aline!
I do love Bite Beauty, but this would be a pass for me. I bought their Deconstructed Rose set and it is gorgeous but the scent and taste of the product was a total turnoff and I barely get any use out of it. The colors in that set are much better than these however. In this set there are only about 2 I’d probably get use out of. I love the aesthetics of them in the package though! Just not worth the price!
I love a lot of their products, but I didn’t like last year’s set (I never got around to editing the photos, lol) much from what I recall – this is definitely even harder to use.
I was actually really looking forward to these and the concept sounded awesome, but it’s sad how disappointing they turned out to be. 🙁 By the way, love your eye look Christine!
Thank you, Hima!
Easy pass on the gloss set. Would have been nice if it did work out well though. Oh well, $ saved for other stuff. I love the incredible eye look. How do you come up with these? Did you work as a makeup artist? I would never think of all these combos you do. You make them look so fantastic and they are just spot on for the season, love it!
Thank you, Nicole! Nope, didn’t work as a makeup artist, just have always enjoyed putting colors together 🙂
I guess the name watercolor should tell us these will be pretty sure, but its still disappointing. Please, tell us about that eyeshadow!! I love it!
On eyes: Make Up For Ever S404, I340, ME338, S312, S226 Artist Shadows; Sephora Good Mood Eyeliner.
Should I be relieved or disappointed? I was soooo excited by the first photos I saw– it’s the first bigger collection/set I’ve really wanted since before Christmas. I guess I’ll save some money by skipping it, at least!
I definitely would skip this one!
Let’s say I wouldn’t take it even if they were giving them away.
BURN!
(everybody is going crazy over liquid long lasting matte lipstick and Bite and Urban Decay go and release like 800 different – really? – colors lip glosses)
I mean, on my end, I like that not every single brand is doing liquid matte, but whatever a brand does, they should do it well!
These swatches are “muy no bueno”… although I LOVE the bold eye look Christine, looks like you had fun doing it 🙂
I noticed you’ve been wearing the Parure Gold foundation again… is this from your old stash or is it the new release of it?? Will you be doing a review? It looks great.
I’ve been wearing it for a few months – trying to get through my bottles 🙂
Too bad these aren’t good… The packaging is so pretty and I’m a gloss hoarder! Some of the lighter ones are just terrible! Ilove this eye look though!!! It’s so beautiful and different!
Thank you, Antonia!
This is so disappointing! On another note, your eye look is fantabulous!
Thanks, Izzy! 🙂
what a bummer. I bought this morning and the set already shipped – at least the flash shipping is pretty legit, thanks sephora – but it looks like I’ll be returning this weekend at the VIB rouge 15 percent off event. these terrible sheers are inexcusable – it’s always so weird to me that bite beauty does some stuff SO WELL and some other stuff SO AWFULLY. it feels like the brand has no middle range.
It is just such a mixed bag in terms of opacity, and then the quality is just ehh.
These look so pretty but the watercolor comparison made my expectation very, very low. Also eww tacky, its one of the reasons I pass on gloss.
LOL! I didn’t think the pastel shades were going to be A++ material, but I wasn’t quite expecting what I got!
I actually like the glosses starting from 6 and up. They did translate the watercolor idea very well. The only way I see not to get disappointed with them is to go by your swatches instead of judging from the tube color.
I wish they applied more evenly overall – some of the colors are nice, but the way they look on the lips is another story!
OMG, love your eye makeup but each and everyone of those Bite Beauty lip glosses is a disaster! I expect so much more from that brand. Another failure!
Thanks, Allison!
I was so looking forward to this set until now. So upset that this was such a let down.
Me too! 🙁
I like 7, 10 and 11, but not enough to warrant buying the set. I’ll have to check out the dupes!
Hopefully one of the dupes works for ya!
I ordered these this morning, so I’m disappointed by your review, but still hopeful that they will work for what I have in mind. I never wear gloss on it’s own, so my plan with these was to use the shades to subtly alter the stains/lipsticks I already own. I’m hoping they will apply more evenly over a lipstick. What do you guys think?
Keep us posted on how they work for you, Sam!
Hi Christine! I’ve been playing around with them for a few days now and I have to say, I’m actually having a lot of fun using them over my Urban Decay lip liners to create cool effects and colours. I can get some very interesting ombre looks with the lighter colours and the hydration boost over the lip liners is great. They are stickier than I’d like (all Bite glosses are though). I used three in the centre of my lips over a dark plum liner the other day and it looked awesome. You’re right, the application is tricky and high maintenance. I found patting it in with my finger and really giving my lips a good rub together helped. I’m not disappointed, but I’d only recommend this set to others who want to play like I do.
That’s great, Sam! I am really happy that you are having fun using them, and ultimately, that it’s working well for what you wanted it to do! 🙂 Thank you so much for updating us!
Completely not interested in this lipgloss set. But wow, your eye makeup is gorgeous! Makes me think of Brazil.
Thank you, El!
A good idea gone wrong it seems. I like all the colours in the tubes, but they sure are disappointing swatched.
Love the eye makeup! Bold and beautiful. Gorgeous as always.
Well said, Helene!
Thank you so much for the pictures of Bite’s very pretty-looking lip glosses. Too bad they don’t perform as well as they look. I think I’ll pass on this one. On the bright side, your eyeshadow is amazing! Love, love, love it!
Thanks, Karen! 😀
Wow, these are lipbalm. I was going to buy this set, but there is no way now. I never thought these had no pigmentation. Thank you, for the great swatches.
No problem, Bara Abigail!
I absolutely love your eye makeup! It basically stole the spotlight…but then again I don’t think that was hard to do with this mediocre set 🙁
haha! Thank you, Joy 🙂
Wow, how disappointing. There’s only a few colors that look decent here, and I don’t want to pay $49 for the entire box. I’m surprised BITE even released this.
I wish they were better!
Thanks for swatching ~ I”m sure this was a lot of work, but worth it! A rather surprise that the colors are meh .. 😛
Monica.
My pleasure, Monica!
Thank you Christine, for saving me $50!!!
No prob, Whitney!
almost every color i wanted to like was the worst performing!
amazing eyes! Wish i had the guts to wear it. What do you use for your brows they are on point!
I’ve been using MAC’s Fluidline Brow Creme in Deep Dark Brunette!
As I perused these lip swatches, I literally did a full-on face-palm. It was actually painful to look at these because this collection has got to have one of the nastiest looking formulas I have ever seen. The yellow one had me hearing *certain* lyrics from The Beatles “I Am The Walrus”..,, Now as for the eye look, you got it ON FLEEK!!! Love it!!!
Haha! Thank you, Nancy!
On top of the rubbish formula, they couldn’t be bothered to give the different shades names?
(PS on the number twelve description, your tag is showing 😉 Is that the web developer’s version of a nip slip?)
Fixed the tag! Thanks!
Soo disappointed that only VIB status can purchase this… I’m not far away from vib status but since sephora is having a sale soon,I haven’t spent the anymore. Might as well wait. The colors are very sheer
Hopefully they open it up to all soon, Mina!
It feels like they purposefully made the more unusual colors sheerer so they were “safer” to wear, but still could have them stand out to make the set look prettier.
Like, I’m not looking for fully opaque yellow/green glosses in a big set like this, but they could’ve made them a little more pigmented, and the results would have still been wearable, but more interesting.
Not that I’d want super tacky gloss anyway…
Or they could have made all of them sheer. I don’t know why they described them all as sheer when half are pretty pigmented, half are very sheer…
The tackiness is serious, though. I don’t mind tacky in general, but these were sooo tacky.
Like many others, I had to comment on the eye makeup – tons of fun! It would really take some glowing reviews and praise to get me to try Bite glosses again. I had one when the line first hit Sephora; I loved the color and I actually found it quite moisturizing and comfortable, but I couldn’t get past the smell. (The gloss formula at that time had lanolin in it, and lanolin has a distinctive… not-awesome… fragrance, which they tried to cover with something reminiscent of children’s Tylenol.) This series is not going to be the one to change my mind.
Thank you so much, BeckBeck! 🙂
That smell sounds AWFUL!
Seven, eight and ten look alright. But the others, EEK.
lol!
Some of them (like 3 and 6) look so strange around the outside of your lips, like a weird outline thing…. almost like when I wake up and have drool dried on my mouth…
lol, doesn’t sound so attractive!
wow although I’m still not interested in purchasing it, it is interesting to see how much more tinted the products look in the full face pics than the lips only swatches
Some of the slightly sheer products are tough to tell without trying them on!
When I first saw these I just knew they would be disappointing! 🙁
I wasn’t confident in those pastels, lol!
Aww, I’m so sad these glosses are really lame! However, your eyes are gorgeous! But completely off topic: I LOVE your earrings! They’re fab!!
Aw, thanks Nancy! 😀
7, 9, and 11 are my favorites. I really am sad I missed the Deconstructed Rose set!
Hopefully they’ll do another one like that!
Whoever created this set must’ve spent too much time staring at the pretty packaging and forgot that people actually have to put this on their lips LOL. The set looks great if you plan on using it as room decoration! 😀 Love your eye makeup though!
LOL! They look better on display for sure!
haha Same here, i love the eye look.. Skip the lip colors.. 😀
Thank you, Stef!
I had a feeling these were going to be bad from just looking at them. Milky messes. Such a shame to come out with such a huge set that disappoints. You’re a good sport for lip swatching them. You could have a category: Too Bad Too Be…
It is a bummer these turned out to be so bad!
Thank you for posting the swatches. They state that they are sheer and yet I was hoping for a little more opaque since they look so bold in the box. I think the color still shows really well, not sure how long it lasts but I think the set will be fun for spring time. Thank you again!!
Happy to help, JJ!!
I really wanted this but its a bad. Nothing like a B or A. I wanted that yellow and green lip color to be a bit stronger
It’s cute in concept but poor in execution!
