Bite Beauty Shade 004 Limited Release Creme Deluxe Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “rich, luminous fuchsia.” It’s a deepened, medium-dark fuchsia with cool, blue undertones that leans red with a soft shine. It’s almost like a fuchsia-berry kind of color. Tom Ford Beauty Francesco (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Cooper (LE, $32.00) is cooler-toned, lighter. Lipstick Queen Play It (P, $50.00) is lighter. Bobbi Brown Hot Berry (P, $26.00) is more shimmery. NARS Janet (P, $32.00) is more shimmery. Too Faced Melted Berry (P, $21.00) is slightly darker. Guerlain Gladys (78) (P, $51.00) is warmer. Guerlain Rose Grenat (864) (LE, $51.00) is lighter, brighter. Estee Lauder Tumultuous Pink (P, $30.00) is lighter. Bite Beauty Crianza (P, $28.00) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Pure Pink (P, $50.00) is more muted, lighter. Too Faced Jelly Bean (P, $22.00) is glossier. MAC Pleasure Bomb (LE, $16.00) is more matte, brighter. Urban Decay Jilted (P, $22.00) is more shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Plum Lush (05) (P, $50.00) is more matte, lighter. NARS Vera (P, $32.00) is warmer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is similar. Bite Beauty Crimson (LE, $28.00) is a smidgen warmer. Estee Lauder Insolent Plum (P, $30.00) is darker. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is more muted, darker. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side. I don’t have swatches quite ready, but Bite beauty’s own Palomino is slightly brighter, while Lingonberry is cooler-toned and lighter; Quince may also be similar, but I don’t have that one.

It had mostly opaque coverage, but a hint of the natural lip color comes through–on me, it’s not really apparent as my natural lip color is effectively lost, but if you have naturally more pigmented lips, you may find your natural lip color will alter the way this looks (perhaps pulling redder, for example). The texture was lightly creamy, which allowed the lipstick to glide on without tugging and apply with smooth, even color. It lasted for six hours and left a stain behind, while it was comfortable to wear and fairly hydrating over time. I don’t think it’s a particularly unique shade, and I get very similar wear, coverage, and hydration (more hydration, actually) from the Luminous Creme range, so the price point on this still remains a bit of a mystery to me (I just don’t feel an upgrade in the formula)–I guess that’s the “downside” to having such a fantastic regular formula! I’d love to see Bite put out more unique shades in the upcoming months, at the very least, though!

I’m glad this performed well. I haven’t gotten to wear mine yet as it arrived late yesterday. I’m glad I got it. but, I was a little disappointed in how dupable the shade was when I opened the tube.

Although very beautiful, I’m just getting really tired of the limited edition game. Between MAC’s ridiculous collection calendar, and all of the other limited items out now, I just wish brands would focus on making well rounded, quality permanent collections with a little something for everyone.

I just got #004 today and it is VERY similar to Quince! I swatched them on my hand side by side and then put one color on the left side of my lips and the other on my right. Quince is definitely a little redder/less fuchsia than #004, but you’d have to have a good eye to discern the difference between them if someone walked in wearing one of the two shades. While #004 is certainly a beautiful color, I don’t know if I can justify keeping it because it is so close to Quince and the price differential is definitely a big negative as well. Do you need both? No. In a nutshell, if you have Quince and you never get #004, you will not miss it. If you don’t have either it would be a matter of personal preference. If you want a nice bright fuchsia lipstick and Quince doesn’t cut it for you, there are less expensive alternatives out there, and Christine has listed a lot of them.

Hey Krista, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I don’t live in the US, and I really haven’t been motivated enough to trouble my friends who are to get these limited edition shades for me. I don’t like to buy anything completely blind, but these are sold out so fast that usually buy the time I read a review (as fast as Christine can work, which is already lightening speed), they’re all gone! I have and like Quince. Glad to hear these two are so similar. Not feeling like I missed out on anything at all!

Glad I could help. I don’t prefer to buy things completely blind either, but I might have tried shade #002 and completely missed out on it so I jumped on this one. I think I will return #004 since Quince is so close in color and $36 is a pretty hefty difference in price. I haven’t worn it other than to test it so I can’t judge quality at all, but I don’t think I’ll miss it at all and I can think of a lot of other things to do with $36. 🙂

So many dupes…

It makes it SO easy for me to not give a hoot about any of these limited monthly release lipsticks. Thanks for the review and dupe list, Christine! All of your hard work is very much appreciated!

Hi Christine – do Bite Beauty products still have that funny chemical-y lipstick smell (hard to explain)? I bought a few shades on sale online a few years ago but the smell has always put me off using them!
Thanks 🙂

It’s beautiful, but I already have Crimson from last year’s deconstructed rose line so I’ll pass. And I only bought that one instead of a cheaper dupe because of the scent!

Seriously though, I haven’t found any of these limited edition ones unique enough for me to want to pay $36.

Ooooh, noo – my worst nightmare has come true – I LOVE this one, and it’s SOLD OUT!
Yeah, it’s on eBay for $60.00+, but I’m not completely insane! 🙂
Thank You, God [and Temptalia] for the Dupe List!

Durn it – I LOVE this one, but it’s sold out!
Most of the dupes aren’t made by cruelty-free companies, either.
BUT this reminds me of a long-ago MAC LE, “Utter Fun.”
I’m consoling myself with the knowledge that I already have “Utter Fun,” Bite Beauty “Palomino,” and I can get Bite Beauty “Quince, which I’d been eyeing, anyhow.

Thank you so much for this review. I was upset because I saw this, put it in my cart, but didn’t check out right away, and it was gone when I went back. But, I already have both Jelly Bean and Insolent Plum! And I can’t count the number of times I’ve almost purchased Melted Berry, Plum Lush, Jilted, Gladys, Janet, or Pure Pink — this kind of color does look good on me — but I certainly don’t need them all! Now, instead of feeling badly that I didn’t get something I wanted, I feel good about having exercised a smidgen of self-restraint 🙂
