5 Must-Have Urban Decay Products

I’m a long-time fan of Urban Decay, and so I’m sure none of these will come as a surprise from me!

  1. Eyeshadow — soft, buttery, pigmented, and silky-smooth–that’s the formula overall! The only ones I’m not keen on are the ones with micro-glitter.
  2. 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil — one of the most comfortable lip liners on the market and has a large shade range
  3. Revolution Lipstick — richly pigmented, hydrating, comfortable to wear lip color
  4. 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils — a favorite for years, I love the variety, consistency, and long-wear–now if only they’d bring back Honey
  5. Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color — rich, decadent lip color with a glossy finish; Scandal is a must-have

What are your favorite Urban Decay products?

I trust Urban Decay’s products to be high quality, especially the eye makeup. My absolute favorite eye shadow color is AC/DC. I love their eye liners and I stocked up on the color “Lucky” since it wasn’t included in the new line. I’m a big fan of their lip pencils, as well. I really like the Naked foundation, but I’m not committed to it like I am the UD eye shadows.
Thank you for your thorough, relevant reviews! I visit your blog daily and I always search your site for reviews of products I’m considering.

…and I’m surprised that the availability of Snare eye shadow hasn’t been extended. It’s basically not available in Canada at all since it is only at Sephoras inside JC Penney or on order from UD (and I’m pretty sure they don’t deliver to Canada). It is such a phenomenal shade and hardly anyone seems to have it.

Can’t go wrong with UD! Have been smitten with them since I bought my first Face Case 13 years ago 🙂 Super Saturated Gloss in Punch Drunk is one of my faves! Will have to check out Scandal too.

I love the Naked Skin foundation and use the Naked Basics palette every weekday (I work in an office). Unfortunately the pencil liners don’t last all day on me, but the color selection is phenomenal. As the first shadow primer I ever purchased, the original primer potion was life-changing!

You’re gonna hate this-Midnight Cowboy! haha I wouldn’t wear it now but in high school I thought it was great! My favorites now are Omen, Stray Dog, Deep End, and Verve. 🙂

Glenda Avatar

Already told you on Facebook, but my fave products are the UD revolution lipsticks! Also like the super saturated high gloss lip pencil, have it in Theodora… I really drool over Scandal! Shame they won’t sell it on its own. Btw, you look really good wearing scandal. 🙂

I bought UD initally for the flecks of glitter. Yes, I know glitter is not everyone’s favorite, but I love glitter thought I use it sparingly with other shadows. Before UD eliminated the glitter shadows, I bought extra on those shades. Glad to see Urban Decay’s quality have hold up to and improved over the years. When it first came out, I wouldnt even take a double look at the eyeshadows. Being the named brand makeup person that I am, I think UD shadows and liners stand far ahead those traditional brands. But now, I’m hooked on the Japanese brands.

I pretty much only use Stash, Whiskey and Rockstar in the 24/7 eyeliners daily. My daughter gave me her “stubs” and now I’m hooked. I also love the Revolution Lipstick in Naked. I need more of these! They are sooo moisturising and long lasting!

Katie Avatar

I love their eyeshadow palettes, super saturated high gloss lip color, setting sprays and naked skin foundation. I also couldn’t live without the deslick pressed powder compact, it’s amazing!

Zia Avatar

Oh and to answer the question, I think my favorite UD product are the eyeshadows (though I use at least 5 of their products regularly). I guess it’s not talked about much, but I love Laced! One of my favorite matte eyeshadows! Other favorites include Free Love, Half Baked , Sin and Toasted.

Two years ago I was walking around confused in an Ulta store, and the Naked palette caught my eye. I purchased it not knowing the consequences. Hundreds of dollars later, and after admitting to now being a makeup addict, I look better and feel better about myself.
-I can’t understand how I ever lived without their eyeshadow primer!
-I have started to branch out to MUFE, MAC and NYX, but I cant help comparing all eyeshadows and eyeliners to Urban Decay. I even love the ones with micro glitter!
-I absolutely love the De-Slick setting spray as it stops my face from looking like a swimming pool.
-My coworker always laughs at me for doing a happy dance when I put on some Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in the shade Naked. PERFECT color for work.
-Yesterday I bought a Revolution Lipstick in the shade Venom – holy cow! – its everything I’ve wanted in a lipstick 😀

LO at — “I purchased it not knowing the consequences.”

It’s funny – you are going from UD’s formula to MUFE/MAC/NYX, which all have a “harder” texture. Like MAC Veluxe Pearls is the closest to UD’s formula in general, whereas MUFE’s formula is harder in a sense… not as buttery/cream/dense.

Emerald Avatar

Yes, MUFE’s eyeshadows are a bit harder, but I HAD to get the #92 Eyeshadow. I couldn’t find anything like it from UD (at least not in a matte finish) and I already have a ton of sparkly/shimmery purples from UD.
The color Strip in BOS IV redux has to be the smoothiest, creamiest, most buttery eyeshadow ever made by UD that I own.

My favourites have to be UD’s eye shadows – such amazing colours and textures. But I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that UD Primer Potion changed my eye makeup wearing enjoyment 1000-fold when I first got it a decade or more ago. It was the first eye shadow primer I ever tried and I think it was one of the first available and it made such a huge difference in how often I would wear eye shadow because of the lasting power/crease prevention it gives. And I also really love All Nighter Setting Spray. I used to really like the 24/7 shadow liners but other companies have since released much better, more easily blendable long lasting pencil shadows, so UD’s have really fallen by the wayside for me.

I remember when Urban Decay first came out (haha, totally dating myself), and it caused such an uproar – “What, they have colors named Smog and Roach?? Omg!” (Ok, we didn’t say “omg” back then, but you get my point 🙂 ) So UD holds a special place in my heart because I remember being intrigued by its alternativeness (how very 90’s 🙂

My favorite UD products are the eyeshadows; I think the colors are really interesting and beautiful. I also like the cream-to-powder foundation. I’m such a sucker for anything cream-to-powder.

xamyx Avatar

The only “must-haves” for me are eyeshadows & UDPP. However, if I didn’t use the shadows, I don’t know if I’d use the primer (UDPP just seems to “play” well with UD shadows, and not so much with other brands, at least for me). I also love the 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner for the formula, but I’m not a huge fan of the applicator, so I’m not sure if it’s a “must-have” (although if I needed a WP liner on a regular basis, I’d definitely put up with the brush-this stuff just doesn’t budge!).

The eye pencils just don’t work for me, although the selection is phenomenal, and I’m tempted every time I walk into Sephora.

I don’t think I’ve tried anything else, as none of the lip shades strike me as anything exciting that I can’t find for less, and I’m not picky about formula. I do miss the Pocket Rocket, actually, which I have in Kirk (I believe), and it is HG nude.

I love Urban Decay! I have all of their eyeliners in their permanent line, a couple of their eyeshadow palettes including the two Vice palettes and I love the foundation. Out of all the eyeliners Lucky is definitely my favourite shade but I only discovered it once it was discontinued and now i only have one that is becoming shorter at an alarming rate

Thanks for your awesome post on UD Christine! I fell in love with UD back in December 2010 when I received their Naked palette for Christmas! Now I am a UD junkie! Lol I love their eyeshadows, some of my staples include Sidecar, Darkhorse, Flash and Last Call. I also love their 24-7 eyeliners and shadow pencils! Fav eyeliner is perversion and fav shadow pencil is Delinquent. They both really bring out my brown eyes. And I have to say my fav lipstick is the Revolution shade Obsessed! Such a pretty pink that I have been wearing on a daily basis lol. I also have to say I wear glasses and UD makeup makes me feel so good about myself and I receive so many compliments on their funky colours! Now if only Omen could be purchased in Canada then I would be in UD heaven! Lol I hit the pan months ago and can’t buy it 🙁

Gisele Avatar

24/7 liquid eyeliner in Smog! I loooove it! It’s natural and modern art the same time, and lasts all they long! 😀
I can’t use 24/7 eyeliner pencils. I don’t know why, but they cause me a huge irritation. So sad, cause I love them. 🙁

Jenny Avatar

I really like the range of colors on their liners but even with primer they smudge on me. Any tips for how to prevent them from smudging? I usually see it smudge on my crease.

fancie Avatar

I’ve tried everything but the lip pencils and super saturated lippies but I’ve been meaning to for a while. I love Urban Decay products and after recently trying the Anarchy Revolution lipstick I’m anxious to get my hands on more UD lippies!

Michelle Avatar

Ever since UD reformulated their eyeshadows, they are awful on me. Patchy, poor pigmentation, completely blends away, and fades. No amount of various primers will help this. Such a shame, I bought Naked1 when it first came out and it continues to be my favorite in my collection. Naked2 barely gets touched, and I’ll be returning Vice2.

I don’t hear these complaints at all from others. I can’t be the only one who doesn’t like the newer formula!

That being said, the 24/7 eyeliners continue to be my favorite.

LMM Avatar

I adore the Naked Skin foundation. I also love their primers, both the complexion and anti-aging eye versions.

I think they outdid themselves with the Revolution lipsticks; I wear Manic all the time now and it will be a permanent fixture in my makeup bag, though I also love Naked for her I wear lots of eye makeup or just want natural lips, and Shame for a vampy lip.

I have worn their eye shadows and liners for years and probably always will, since they last on my oily eyes. Sin eyeshadow and the Naked 2 palette are good on me, and Zero and Demolition liners are constants.

And finally I wish the Afterglow blush wasn’t discontinued and wish it would return. Maybe next year?

Urban Decay was my first brand I started using outside of drugstore stuff. I started halfway though high school. It’s been a long and fulfilling relationship ever since. I do miss honey. I still have one but it down to just that, can’t even find it on ebay. My makeup stash is stuffed with UD.

Emily Avatar

I agree with you on the eyeshadows! Overall, such a wonderful range of shades and textures with beautiful wear. I’ve learned to pass on any of the shades with micro-glitter though. I haven’t been able to find any product or technique that prevents the glitter from migrating to my cheeks, my forehead… and anywhere else EXCEPT my eyes.

The eyeliners are great too, and I’m loving the new Ocho Loco set that I got during VIB. Can’t wait to dive into Urban Decay’s lip collection one of these days. I haven’t ventured past their eye products!

I no longer desire Urban Decay cosmetics. I do not believe that the felt mouthing has done anything but skin some rabbits so to speak. What is done is done. I desire to be part of a solution not a further degeneration of our society via complacency.
Favorite cosmetics now, are Trish McEvoy mascara, Cargo foundation, Pur Minerals blush, Eco Bella lipstick/gloss, and Illamasqua eyeliner !
I really believe that a new classification needs to be shown now on all of the rabbit sites to show which companies DID not put their foot in the fire!
