Quick Review: Benefit Dandelion Box Powder
Benefit Dandelion Box Powder ($28.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a softened peach with a hint of pink and a golden shimmer-sheen. On me, it definitely leans a little peach, but I could see the pink tones being pulled out on cooler skin tones that have more pink in them naturally. This is meant to be a soft color, so it works best as a highlighter or if dusted lightly, an all-over powder. I would the very palest of skin could use this as a subtle blusher. One box will last you quite awhile, given the massive size of the powder, as most blushes are half the size!
Welcome to Swatch-all-idays! To start 2011 off on the right foot (or post, as it may be!), Temptalia is going through a backlog of products we have photographed, swatched, and often tested but in a slightly different manner. Quick reviews may be partially incomplete, such as a blush may only be swatched on the arm rather than shown on the face. It is our hope that what we are able to provide is still helpful!

RECOMMENDATION: For something that adds a natural glow without going overboard or adding a lot of color, Dandelion works well. It flatters both warmer and cooler skin tones, too!

I have them for a while now and love to use as a blusher! I def have pink undertone so it looks very natural, and I love that gold particles – they give me warmth.
Christine, which one would u recommend more between Dandelion and Sugarbomb? Thanks 🙂
Sugarbomb
Dandelion is one of my favorite products, but I am not crazy about the bulky packaging that Benefit uses.
I have this, and it’s very lovely as a highlighter! I love the scent of it too.
*blinks* o_o -_- O_o
Where did you swatch it? Oh, I see. It just looked like your skin was a bit irritated in two spots, haha. I was lemming this for awhile, but wow it is SUBTLE.
Also, Christine, have you checked out the N.Y.C. (New York color–a d/s brand) custom eyes eyeshadow palettes? They have them for brown eyes, blue eyes, etc. Just wanted to give you a heads up-the brown eyes one BLEW ME AWAY, haha. The pigmentation was great and the shadows super blendable for a drugstore brand. The brown eyes one is called “Union Square,” and it’s making me think I need the rest. Just letting you know about it. 🙂 It puts some of my NARS and Mac shadows to shame. For $4.49 you really get your moolah’s worth.
Thanks for the Dandelion review, btw! Even your abbreviated reviews are super helpful. ^_^ Totally picked up a cremesheen lg after seeing your swatches.
Sorry, I haven’t! I actually do not buy any makeup at the drugstore, because I’m terrified of people getting into them, since all the products are out in the open for anyone to touch, so it’s hard for me to keep up with what’s there. I had a friend who got an eye infection from an eyeshadow she purchased at the drugstore 🙁
I will try searching online – thanks!
I’ve bought makeup from Sephora that was opened and used, so I’m assuming you don’t shop there either.
If I buy anything from the drugstore, I make sure that the seal hasn’t been broken
I don’t, actually – I only purchase Sephora products online for the same reason. In general, I may swatch something in store, but I make the majority of my purchases online (or else through Nordstrom or MAC, if it’s in-store, as they do a pretty good job of ensuring people *don’t* get into their stock).
I’ve had products with seals still on and it was clear someone used it – some of those seals are easy to slip on and off! 🙁
That is the worst when you buy a product and discover it’s already been used. That’s happened to me twice when I’ve ordered Too Faced products from beauty.com. Yuck.
EW!
Would you compare this to Mac’s Dainty at all?
Less pink
Thanks so much for the helpful review. Every time I try to swatch Dandelion or Georgia powders at the store they always seem to vanish under the light.
i’ve been wanting you to do a review, thanks. im definitely going to be purchasing 🙂
I can’t express how much I love this powder! It doesn’t show up as any color on me (olive tone NC30ish) but it has a really noticeable yet subtle brightening effect, especially when carefully dusted around the eyes like you would use Benefit’s Powderflage (it’s much smoother and subtler). It’s also my perfect subtle nearly-matte highlighter when I want to highlight without shimmer. I also dust this all over my face lightly on no-foundation days because it actually has a smoothing effect on my imperfections. LOVE LOVE HG STATUS!!!
I’m really pale, so this is the perfect blush color for me 🙂 love it!
Me too. I’m so pale this is a really awesome natural peachy-pink shade on me. It was one of my first higher end make-up purchases.
This color looks GREAT on me! I’m pretty pale (NW 15/20), so I actually use this as a blush several days a week. It has pretty good staying power and looks so natural.
It’s so strange that it leans peachy on you. On my it’s a perfect baby pink. Yours even looks peachier in the box. I bought maybe 4 or 5 years ago though, so maybe they’ve changed the color slightly.
Baby Pink on me also.
Definitely going to be picking this up!
I’m actually an NC40 and find that this blush looks amazing! It takes about two coats to be a natural pink blush color with a beautiful golden/peachy sheen! I really think this product reacts differently for everybody. I love it, I’ve been using it for almost two months everyday and this baby doesn’t even have a dent! It also lasts all day, but I do use setting spray and primer, so don’t know if it lasts without that.
Benefit should make a gift set of mini powder boxes with Coralista, Dandelion, Georgia and Hoola. That would be a bestseller for sure!
That is a brilliant idea! I use georgia and coralista every day together, and I wish i didnt have to fork over $56 for just 2 hugee blushes that I will never ever finish!
I’ve had Dandelion for a while and I love it. It’s very pretty and subtle.
I agree with your assessment that this will be more pink on people with cooler undertones. I am NW15 w/strong pink undertones. I borrowed Dandelion from a friend a couple of times, and every time I wore it, people asked me if I was feeling well, and if I was running a fever! It really emphasized my natural pink, and not in a good way. The slight shimmer made me look even more fever-ish. (The Dandelion I borrowed looked much more rose/mauve than the photo you posted.)
I have this and it is almost too light for me. It is a pretty colour though. I have had my for about 4 years before I even hit pan.
i love this blush!! i use it on top of my regular blush as a highlight and it really smooths out my skin and makes it glowy. really beautiful!!
I LOVE this stuff! I use it as a blush and its practically foolproof on me. Can’t put too much on. I will definitely repurchase when I run out.
Hey Christine,
I just got my Benefit Dandelion powder, but it has no smell 🙁 the box looks exactly as the one showed, but it does not smell AT ALL. Is there a good possibility it could be fake because of that fact? 🙁
It could be an older batch so the scent may have dissipated!
Hi, have bought 2 Dandelion powders in the past. One in Ireland and the other through Ebay (bad idea, was sold a fake, but managed to get my money back). Recently while in Ireland I bought a box of Dandelion from ‘The Loop’ shopping centre in Dublin Airport. However, unlike my last Dandelion this one deosn’t really smell of anything. I remember the last one smelling great. Other than that it seems real but it’s not the same when it doesn’t smell good. Is there anything I can do about this?
The only thing I can think of is to return but since you got it from an airport, I suppose that’s not really an option…
I purchased a Dandelion on e-bay as well that turned out to be a fake–and, like you, I got my money back immediately. I should have known that the inexpensive price was too good to be true. That said, I love my Dandelion. I am pale with pink undertones and use this as a blush faithfully. Hit pan so I have to get another one–next time I’ll just go to Sephora and shell out the money rather than go on ebay!
Should I exchange this for Coralista? On the box this says that it is a brightening blusher, but now I`m afraid that the pink perky color won`t show up on my skin :S
Coralista is pretty different – it’s definitely a blush!
