The Sultry Season: Benefit Breakup Rumor Lipstick

Benefit Breakup Rumor Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a gorgeous reddened berry with gold sheen and glossy finish.  If you feel like you’ve seen this recently, you’re right — it’s very similar to MAC’s Baron’s Rose — but it’s not limited edition and you can purchase it on its own (rather than as part of a set).  I actually just swatched it shortly after Baron’s Rose, and I was struck by the similarity then.   It’s a lovely holiday shade, though, with the glinting gold sheen.

Is this the right berry for you? Would you wear it?

The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

I’ve purchased this shade twice this year. It is a beautiful berry colour which I haven’t been able to find a dupe for. Unfortunately, it is LE where I am. The 2nd time round (several months after the 1st purchase), it was hard to find and I had to call several Benefit counters before I found one which still had stock. It’s the perfect berry for me and I think it’d suit all skin tones.

oooh I loved this since you first posted about it. Thanks for reminding me about it and pointing it’s a Baron Rose dupe (yay). I’m gonna get one, specially now that they ship to Canada.

OMG I want this!! I’ll go check my local Sephora store – I like this color very much! I miss Fun Bathing and Baron’s Rose is part of a kit I’m not too fond of so I guess this could be a very good purchase. Thanks for posting this Christine, I can’t wait to get this lipstick!

I may end up buying this and pairing it with NARS new Etrusque eyeshadow! Not totally sure how it will look, but I am hoping the gold eyeshadow will bring out the gold in this shade!

I really really like this shade. Confession: I bought Dazzle the Lads lipbag 68% because of Baron’s Rose. So, so lovely. I really don’t like how the Benefit site swatch makes this look lilac-berry with gold sheen when the swatch here makes it look red. I haven’t received Dazzle the Lads so depending if I LOVE the bag and other contents, I may be sending it right back so I can get this.

This is the most beautiful color I have seen in a long time. Unfortunately, it probably isn’t vegan friendly. It reminds me a lot of Fyrinnae’s Devil Horns lip lustre.
